Thanks--great site.

Thanks so much for your response...but that doesn't work either... when I try to save, I get "Server has been reset."
I'll try again in the future, and on another computer.
Thanks again.

Yeah, seems strange works for me. Must be a problem your end, either try in Itunes or on someone else's pc. If you really want it, i can download it for you, then email it to you? Just an idea.

Bill, everything seems to be in order on our side it just might be your computer giving you grief. Perhaps your firewall? At any rate, I tried to email you the podcast, but you used a false email to make your posts. I do the same thing on other sites. Unless of course your email address is none@none.com which is a killer email address.

Ok, today's podcast is also now available on iTunes. So there's another option.

What if they the end the series as a mystery. It seems that people who've been on the island for far longer than our castaways and do not have a clue to what's going on. Maybe it'll just end.
Posted by: Cobblepot | November 27, 2005 at 06:40 PM
Cobblepot, I think half the viewing audience will be institutionalized, a la Lenny, if that happened ; )
Seriously - yes, many people have been stranded on this island before Flight 815's crash, but I take it as these are the men and women that ARE going to discover the truth and get off that island... if it is an island. At least, I hope.

Great podcast as always guys. When you talked about Sayid asking Michael about Walt, you interpreted Sayid's reaction as "I just saw Walt".
I think that Sayid did not see Walt in the jungle with Shannon, he merely agreed with her because he loved her. I think Sayid's reaction was that "I should have *really* believed her"
Posted by: Wonderyak | November 28, 2005 at 06:16 PM
I wonder if Sayid's seeing Walt (if he saw him - I personally interpret that scene at the end of 'Abandoned' as Sayid definitely having seen the Walt-apparition, but like anything with this show, we'll never know until they tell us, explicitly!) will just be another one of those things that the characters never bring up to each other.
Prediction: At the end of season 9, Sayid and Michael will be on the beach, and Sayid will say, "You know, it's funny, but I never told you that right before... dear Shannon died, I saw your son, dripping wet and saying, 'shhh.' How about that, huh?" But until then, the writers will keep Sayid and Michael on different boar-hunting rotations.

wonderyak,
We joked about how strange it was that Sayid just asked him where Walt was and failed to mention that he had just seen him, or that Shannon had just seen him. It's a good point about the ambiguity there as to whether or not Sayid ever actually saw what Shannon was seeing. I'm holding off on speculaiton there.
Posted by: Blinder | November 29, 2005 at 09:05 AM
I think Sayid did see Walt, because it was Sayid who first spotted him. This prompted Shannon to turn round where she then saw Shannon.

Ha!
I was watching LOST with my old man last week. He's an extremely well read guy. He knew immediately that Locke's crossword question was a Gilgamesh reference. I laughed and told him that those 5 seconds of the show would be picked apart like the Zapruder film. I told him I would find doctoral dissertations on the epic of Gilgamesh all over the boards next week. His response was "Don't they realize these writers are just fucking with them?"
I'm not saying that some of the shows allusions don't have meaning, but I think most of the time the writers are just having their fun with us. I can see the meeting now.
Writer 1: What's Locke doing when Ecko shows up with Sawyer?
WRITER 2: I don't know. Working a crossword puzzle?
WRITER 1: That's good. What word is he trying to figure out?
WRITER 2: Dunno. How about something from Iliad or the Odyssey? Beowulf maybe?
WRITER 1: Too easy. (snaps) I got it! Gilgamesh!
WRITER 2: That will really blow their bandwidth. I love it! You've read it?
WRITER 1: Nah - I'll just pull up everything we need on Wikipedia. That's where they're going to go anyway.
BOTH: (maniacal laughter)
But hey, at least they have enough respect for the audience to bait their goose chases with highbrow references.
Posted by: matt | November 29, 2005 at 11:05 PM
Matt, You are probably right. But at least they pick literary references with relevent themes. If the crossword puzzle answer was "Medea" or "Theseus" it wouldn't have made much sense for the episode. But Gilgamesh was a nice paralel. Also, I do remember reading that there is a huge Lit. buff on the writing staff.
Posted by: Blinder | November 30, 2005 at 10:04 AM
True. But if it does have a larger meaning to the sow I think you guys misinterpreted the reference. Anna is Gilgamesh, the harsh but strong ruler. Ecko is Inkidoo, the wild but calming friend.
But the great thing about literary analysis is that you can make almost any story be about anything. They probably did pick Gilgamesh because the themes worked, but give me the Cliff's Notes version of any classic and I could probably make it apply. Especially one like Gilgamesh, which is, pretty much the proto myth that all other Western and some Eastern myths stemmed from. It's themes reoccur through literature from Genesis to Star Wars.
But that doesn't mean I want you guys to stop chasing the leads they throw us. Even if they end up as dead ends the trip is still fun.
By the way a Thesus reference would have worked. He was conceived on an Island, he killed a giant boar, battled a monster in an underground lair, he carried a staff ... You could have found just as many connections with his story as you did with Gilgamesh's.
Posted by: matt | November 30, 2005 at 12:07 PM
Though I never mentioned it in the podcast I also felt ana seemed more like a Gilgamesh for the reasons you mention. What I liked about the Eko/Loke relationship was the speculation of them two going off on adventures. They seem more like the roving brother adventurers than Ana.
But don't worry We'll take all the Literary Bait they throw out there.
