LOSTCasts is now in the iTunes top 100 podcasts! Today I checked it out and we were #84. But we can't stop there! Would Ana Lucia shoot Shannon and just let Sayid beat her senseless? I don't think so.
If you're not a subscriber to LOSTCasts, visit iTunes and subscribe. If you are already a subscriber, tell your friends about it, post about it on your blog and post about it on the forums. Madonna's podcast is as #81, so we can easily surpass her in the top 100. But our real goal should be to surpass the other LOST podcast, "The Transmission", which is at #66.
Remember, you can subscribe to LOSTCasts in iTunes by following this link, or just do a search for "LOSTCasts" in the iTunes music store.
Stay LOST.

Congrats on the ranking. Although I do think surpassing Maddona's podcast might be a tall order. There are more gay men out there than Lost fans.

I wouldn't make too much of Dr. Candle's eye closeups on the Hanso version of the video. This is just an editing technique to mask over the reaction shots of Locke & Jack as they watched the film in the hatch episode. It's an easy way to cover the spoken portion without seeing Candle's lips.

Clearly this is a worldwide reaction to my spoilers segment!!

yes lets pass the gay voice podcast

I'm thinking, instead of actually buying gifts for people this holiday season, I'll subscribe them to the podcast - even if they don't watch "Lost."
Yeah, that's not a bad idea ; )

I have to say that we here at Lostcasts are accepting of all creeds, colors, genders and gender preferences. So we are truly equal opportunity. We want to outperform all other podcasts equally.

Love this cast..........On the "Official Lost Podcast" the directors did say that Anna Lucia did shoot Shannon. Please stop trying to run with very little clues.

Hey Guys, I am listening to your latest podcast on the Lost 48 Days and your talking about the knife that Ana Lucia has. Is it possible that the Others got it from the wreckage of the drug smuggling plane? Just a thought, keep up the good work.

Hey, I'm the guy from above again. I just have a quick question about Goodwin. When he came out of the woods after the plane crash, he had on normal clean looking clothes. In the other shots of the others, I didn't notice them having nice clothes. Just wondering if there are any theories as to where he got his clothes. Peace
Posted by: Steve M | November 22, 2005 at 05:01 PM
I'm with you John Sparflen. The "who REALLY shot Shannon" is insane.
And Steve M, on the show they did not mention Goodwin's clothes, but they did mention the clothes of the "others" they killed. Our tailenders noticed their clothes had no labels. No I used to have a hippie girlfriend who made her own clothes and it's pretty amazing how easy it is to make your own clothes once you have the fabric. And when I say "easy" I mean "no way in hell I could di it but it looks easy." So, if you go by my Walden II theory behind the others then these guys make their own clothes and when they out grow them they pass them on down. The Walden II society, when it comes to clothing, is very much against individuality (so the clothing is pretty uniform) and it is very much about conservation and modesty.
Posted by: BLinder | November 22, 2005 at 06:58 PM
And by modesty I mean they are not interested in fashion or style trends. Clothing only serves a utilitarian function in the Walsen II community.
Now on my spelling I have to apologize. I don't generally go back and read over my posts before hitting the "post" button. yeah, it's a bad habit, but whatever.

I agree with Ides of March (above) that the eye close-ups were just fillers and don't mean much. I think that showing the orientation film on the Hanso website was an afterthought, and that it was cheaper to simply intercut shots of Candle's eyes than to make up the whole set again. The actor could have filmed it in the broom cupboard and no-one would know.

so i posted this on an earlier thread and i'm not sure if it's sort of a dead thread, so here it goes again. question about ekko: i think there is something to be said about ekko giving bananas to nathan. is he compassionate or is he working with him? was he pulling the people out of the water because he's a good guy, or because he was looking for child survivors? (ie that little girl they saved via CPR)
2.after listening to your awesome analysis w/regards to Walden 2 and BF Skinner and all that: i think Locke is one of those lollipop kids who was raised in this Walden 2 like commune on the island, then was taken to America (for whatever reason) and raised by foster parents. while he may have flourished on the island, it's obvious that in the "real world/off the island he was both physically cripped and arguably mentally crippled too. proof that he could have been part of this Walden 2 commune life: recall the conversation his mom had w/him in the diner" you're special, john. you're part of a design." hm, what design could that be? experimenting on kids? teaching them new levels of consciousness? now that locke's back on the island (a homecoming for him) the island he's home, he's flourishing, he's kind of this tracker-hero. the island has rewarded him with his legs. it's interesting to see that whenever he did something that would facilitate a rescue (eg boone and the radio in the plane) the island punishes him by momentarily re-paralyzing him.
3. another thing reagarding locke: did you guys ever look up Theresa goes up the stairs/Theresa goes down the stairs (what Boone chants in Locke's dream/premonition)?
4. locke and walt share a connection and i think it revolves around the fact that both of them are more metaphysically connected to supernatural forces, and also they're both inclined to stay on the island (walt burns the raft; could walt have summoned the shark?). so if locke was raised on the island-- then does that make him an Other? and if he's an indavertent Other, he's a good Other-- does he know about the bad Others? is there a dark side/light side choice? and does he imply this in a conversation with walt that will foreshadow walt becoming an Other too? recall the conversation about the black and white pieces of the backgammon-like game they play on the island. i can't remembe rthe language but wasn't it something loosely about a civil war or something? what if he's talking about the Good Others v the Bad Others? what if he's trying to teach walt that there are two groups at war andthat he'll have to choose?
lastly, can we talk about why there are so many instances of prosthetics? the glass eye, the fake leg of that woman who spoke to hurley about the curse of the numbers, the fake arm of the farmer that turned kate in. what does it mean?

Animalita,
1)
For me, the deal with Eko sharing his bananas with Nathan (That jsut sounds wrong) was a demonstration of eko's quiet defiance of what Anna was doing as well as reveal of who he is as a person. I personally am not buying into the whole "Eko was already on the island" bit so I'm not getting a strong sense of any connection between eko and nathan. Nor do I think either of them had anything to do with the others. I think Nathan was just being an ass to Ana. Think about how much toture Sawyer put up with before finally admitting he didn't have what they were looking for.
2) That's an interesting thought about Locke. I'll save my response to that for the podcst.
3) I don't recall what that chant Boone was saying in that episode. That'd be a good epidode to revisit.
4) There seems to be some connection between Walt and Locke: They both gained the most out of the island. Locke gained his legs and Walt gained not only a Dad, but somehow a place where he was not an outcast.
There was definetely a strong bond formed between them and they both seemed to have some unique connection to the island on a paranormal level.
I think the speculation you've made form there is interesting. It certainly seems reasonable to me to think there is some kind of greater conflict between different groups on the island and our survivors are caught in the middle.
But the way things are moving, We probably won't be clear on any understanging of any "others" connection to Walt or anyone until this season is over. And that's probably being optimistic.
5) Dismemberment? I don't know. If there's some common dismemberment theme in literature or mythology (ancient ro urban) It'd be worth knowing. Do you know of any dismemberment motifs out there?
Good thoughts.

Glad you made it, otherwise I wouldn't have found you! NICE podcast, and I'm looking forward to getting all caught up.

I think Boone's nanny was named Theresa. There's a whole "Cruel Intentions" love triangle with Shannon being worked out here. Good, good times.
Even if turns out Locke isn't originally from the island, conceptually, what his character relates to and how he relates to it, he is. Rousseau, too. Hmmmmmmm...

There was a load of dismemberment in the Star Wars movies, mainly arms being sliced off, and I remember hearing that George Lucas had studied alot of age old mythology and stories to "borrow" themes and images from. MW

I was reading the link that you have posted for the summary of Walden 2 and it got me thinking of another book that had some of the same Ideas. A Brave New World by Aldous Huxley. I have not heard anyone talking about this and after reading the summary again I could not help thinking about some of the ties to the Island. (Granted this theory is a little more "Matrix" than most but, there are people broken down into 5 classes. There are whispers that are basically brainwashing children (sickness) to do behavorial modification. Any way here is the link, possibly it could be another way to go.

another case of an amputee-moment: when boone's dying and jack is going to slice his leg off. anyway, what does this mean if anything? hm. there's the phantom limb syndrome where amputees have sensation in a limb that is no longer there. the brain thinks its there but it's not,it processes very real sensations (such as pain) from a void, a nothingness. in terms of star wars, i think the amputation was to emphasize the Otherness of the villain-- his deformed, abhorrent new self. however this doesn't help me add anything up in terms of Lost. speaking of limbs, i'm dying to find out how locke ended up in a wheelchair. oh, and does anyone think that walt inadvertently/advertently killed his mom with his mental powers? PS totally off subject, but if you guys have the first season on dvd, watch the episode where michael goes to pick up walt. in the scene where he's standing in the foyer holding the box of his letters the nanny's just given to him the camera focuses on the details of the ceiling. the ceiling is in the shape of the darma project symbol/hatches. cool foreshadowing.

Hey guys, just left a message at the phone number. Probably sounds kind of rambly...but hope it makes sense and makes it to air. If not, let me know and I'll re-record it. I didn't even get to the parallels I'm seeing now that we're reading Lord of the Flies with my 10th grade class. :D
