I think the horse is supposed to be the spirit of Kate's father, that's why the horse was outside the house when kate blew it up. Thats might also be why the horse was on the island, and kate's father spoke to her through sawyer.
Posted by: Randy | December 03, 2005 at 05:25 PM
Kate can kick ass because her Army dad taught her some moves just like he taught her how to hunt.
My crackpot computer theory is that maybe it is Alvar Hanso talking to Mikey. Maybe as part of the Life Extension project Hanso is cryogenically frozen in some bunker deep in the island but his brain somehow runs the island. You know, like Walt Disney.
The Kate, Jack, Sawyer thing. Sawyer is bad drunk daddy. Jack is good Army daddy.

I forgot to mention this in the podcast, but someone reference on one of the forums that Kate says in an earlier episode that she used to go deer hunting with her dad...

Just heard the cast and i don't think, you mentioned that there is a third letter (click on tne bottom of the JOOP letter and type Copenhagen (cap C)) in the password field.. it explains parts of the other memo.

I'm not buying into this whole "Walt is projecting himself" theory. It seems VERY farfetched, especially if everything is meant to be possible in LOST, how is a 10 year old boy going to be able to project himself to others in a different place. I beleive he does perhaps have some special mental abilities but not to the extent that he can send psychic images to people.

There is no way that the missing piece of film that eko brought back cannot be part of another orientation film as speculated!
1. they are in STATION 3
2. it says they are in station 3 in the part that they already have
3. it says station 3 in the part that was spliced back in
did anyone else notice this?
unless it is fake, which i doubt, it is all supposed to go together.
the tiny inconsistencies are probably just that. accidents.

Kate total character is based on Hitchcock's Marnie (1964), from the theme music that accompanies kate's flashbacks down to the black horse she identifies herself with.
The black horse is a symbol of the shadow (jungian psychology).

If you look at the source code of alvarhanso.html there are a row of numbers at the bottom of the page. They have been hidden and they are not needed for the site code. I feel they must have some meaning as why else would they be there? any ideas

Nice catch, Lacenaire!

Great episode! Great podcast! I really like how you delve into theories and connect the "dots."
A couple of questions:
In your theories podcast about the Philadelphia experiment and Montauk project, one thing you mentioned was that possibly the plane was teleported to the island. After seeing the Other 48 Days, where you actually see the tail section slam into the island, have you changed your mind about that part of the Phil. Exp.?
Also, since Zanzibar is now being name dropped at the A. Hanso website, do you think that research subjects are being groomed on the island and teleported to Zanzibar? Or do you think some things/people are being teleported from Zanzibar to the island?
I'm trying to figure out the overall reason why this particular group of people have come together on this island by plane (everything happens for a reason), and the fact that promos prior to Season 2 kept repeating "They are NOT lost." I've got an idea, which is probably too long for comments here, that I think will slowly come out more and more in the flashbacks on how they (the survivors) are all tied together.
Thanks, and stay Lost!

Ha ha ha! Just listened to the official podcast, and I love how Lindelof and Cuse are completely oblivious to the fact that Lostcasts is an actual podcast, and, instead, think that you just love the podcast.
On a completely different note, I think it is kind of obvious what's happening on the island right now. Pirates, that's what. I Just thought I would throw that out there. Seriously, ever puzzle piece fits.
Anyway, just wanted to say great show guys! I love . . . yaaarrrrrrrr podcast.

In the podcast it was mentioned that the reason why the Arrow hatch is smaller than the Swan hatch was perhaps because the blast doors were closed there. This got me thinking. As I remember both hatches had "quarantine" on the doors. Perhaps the blast doors were intended to keep out viruses, even the "sickness" Danielle talks about. Perhaps this was the incident Candle talks about.

This comment doesn't have much to do with this episode - my thoughts are wandering to the Others and Goodwin. When Goodwin tells Anna that he is in the Peace Corps, he says something along the lines of: "I'm just glad someone still knows what it is"...If he's been on this island, how did he know the Peace Corps did still exist? That's a really risky thing to say. Since the audience is lead to believe that the Others are somewhat "native" to the island (for at least 16 years, according to Rousseau), they really would have no idea if the Peace Corps dissolved as an organization years ago.
This makes me speculate two ideas: 1) Goodwin's group of "the Others" haven't been on the island as long as we thought, or 2) the Others have communication with the rest of the world. If they can communicate with the outside world, then the Michael-and-the-computer development from this episode makes a little sense. It would also point to the idea that the Others are in fact part of the Dharma Initiative.
I'd like to hear about any speculations people might have with this train of thought.

Nanci Dru,
As for the teleportation thing, I don't think seeing the tail end fall rules anything out. So the people hanging on to this theory aren't giving up yet. But, for me, teleporation seems pretty out there for the show. So far anyway.
John had mentioned the possibility of this Zanzibar thing linking back to Eko. He may have Dharma experience form another operation. I thought that sounded like a cool possibility.
And as for the overall reason for this particular group being picked to get stuck on this island. Get used to not knowing the answer to that one.
Posted by: blinder | December 04, 2005 at 10:36 PM
Nadia,
Since we don't really know in what year the story is set, it's tough to know when anyone besides Danielle and the lostaways got there.
Some other compelling indicatiors of access to a mainland is the relatively new washer and dryer in the hatch and the Seabillies with their boat and their gas.
And I'd almost be disapointed If it really is Walt on the computer. Finding Walt on instant message, or even "telepathic instant message" just isn't that interesting to me. The "others" jacking with them would be somewhat more interesting, or it'd also be cool if it were(like we mentioned in the podcast) some artificial intelligent HAL like computer.
Posted by: blinder | December 04, 2005 at 10:54 PM
Lacenaire,
Why couldn't you have dropped the Hitchcock reference before last podcast. We could have brought that up. That's good stuff.

Hey, did I miss the guys mentioning it somewhere, but who did the new theme music? I like it! Is there an extended remix? :D

I like the new theme music too, but I liked it better when you guys used a song that was used in the episode. Like the reggae tune from Hurley's dream. I understand that every week doesn't present you with a song to use. Techno thing works fine then. But this week there was the country song Kate played before she freaked out. You should have opened and closed with that. Diffrent songs give each show podcast a different vibe.
Posted by: matt | December 05, 2005 at 03:19 PM
I also thought the excellent Libertines song for which the episode is named, "What Kate Did," off their self-titled 2nd album would have been a lovely way to kick off or close out the podcast. It's a pity they're not as well known over here in the states.
Did you guys ever come to a decision about to use or not to use copyrighted material? I'm a conflicts assistant at a law firm and just asked one of the copyright attorneys if it was incredibly illegal to play someone's song on a podcast, and she confirmed my suspicion, that so long as you're not profiting off the use of the song or cutting it up to ridicule it or what not, it's not an issue.

Hi- GREAT show! -Did you know that you can access a 3rd Easter egg on the hanso foundation site? Click near the bottom of that Joop letter, it'll ask you to submit something. Type Copenhagen and click submit. It's interesting.

Hey guys
Love the casts!
I would really like to produce some music for your intro and outro! If you'd like me to, please email me!
Cheers guys,
Hutch.

Hey just started to listen to you guys. Love all the theories and stuff the fans came up with. Very intresting...
You guys said that you wont touch much about the whole romantic stuff going on but your few mins of comments about poor Jack (on the whole jate-kiss-thing) just made my day. thank you. :P
Looking forward to listen to more lostcasts!
Happy holidays, guys!
Posted by: Anna | December 07, 2005 at 04:15 AM
The guy who produced the intro/outro we use now is named Marty Shauggnessy. And he's got an album called "Life is a circus" which is folk/alt country sort of stuff. Not at all like the techno intro he made for us.
Hey HUTCH, definetely interested in mixing up the intro/outro music for some variety. We'd be happy to check out what you got and give you some free publicity on the cast. Thanks for the help.
Posted by: blinder | December 07, 2005 at 05:03 PM
I'm sorry, It's Marty Shaughnessy who did our intro lost meets techno theme music. I spelled his name wrong above.

The numbers at the bottom of the source code of alvarhanso.html are ascii codes. Whoever created the site is using them to hide source code they don't want people to read. Not only is the source code translated to ascii, it is also reversed! After decoding it it leads you to these source files the webmaster apparently didn't want people to grab:

Hey,
Next time you guys get togethor I think it'd be beneficial to serious go over the strong possibility that lock is not who he seems to be. I've been watching the first season over again and I am convinced that Locke is def. "evil". Comparing him to the walking man in "The Stand" is an accurate one. Aside the countless times his treachery and evilness has been forshadowed and slightly revealed there was something else I noticed. In "Raised by Another" where Ethan makes his debut on 'Lost' they hunted togethor, deep in the night. They were hunting at night? Everyone else was in bed, but they were hunting? Not likely. For those of us that do hunt, I can tell you that he probably was'nt tracking anything nor would be able to find, shoot, and kill anything at night. They're in cahoots seeeeee

If someone has already discussed this then please excuse this. But has there been any discussion on mysterious numbers stations and their possible relation to LOST?

Guys...one question...
Wikipedia plays a huge part in your research for the shows clues (as well it should, Wikipedia is awesome)

And dont tell me you guys arent big enough to be on there
iTunes TOP 100 anyone?
Thats like the net version of "going platnum..."
Now we have 6 weeks...or 5 now, but lets get on it guys the world needs it:)
love the show
Stay LOST

I FIGURED OUT THE NUMBERS!!! (or part of them at least)
Ok, they are longitude and latitude. 4.815 Longitude and 162.342. Latitude. It might be 4.815 Latitude and 162.342, i forgot. Anyhow, you get a point between Los angeles and Sydney! (you guys might already know this) If you don't and want to confirm, use mapquest or google maps, and enter these into longitude and latitude. By the way, your podcast is great!

Heeyyy It's probably not that helpful, but i was re watching season one and in the flashback where Kate is on that guys farm, when she goes into the cupboard pantry thing to get her money, theres jars of pears and on the jars it says " Pears 2003 "
Or something.
Just to help with the whole time theory.

If not, we'll be ditching them faster than you can say "dude".

okay, just read John's comment. I'M NOT CRAZY!!! You did say that you were putting together another podcast, and to look for it on the 16th .... correct?

I have only seen season one but I stumbled across the Hanso Foundation site, Lost seems an exact parallel of the Forbidden Planet, Id monster manifested by the technological capability of the location, powerful sciientists, Bohm quantum theory, underground laboratory, psychic/intuitive abilities of youth? is this a known link? Is the wailing (I want to go home, I want to die) the repression of the yang side of the search for infinite knowledge? (Taoist principles) Who's monster does it belong to?
Posted by: hanso's id | January 19, 2006 at 04:46 PM
just a small point of conversation, but i thought it was interesting to point out that the cut out part of the orientation tape said dont try and use the computer for contact with the 'outside world', do you think the other hatches or other places on the island count as the 'outside world'? maybe because the message recieved by michael were from somewhere else on the island which is why it didnt cause another 'incident'. love the podcast guys
