I was very dissapointed to have been so totally misquoted on this podcast. It was dissapointing enough to hear what took many hours to write reduced to one comment in passing (which I realize is your perrogative - It is your podcast)

However, I wrote you about many specific similarities between the Dark Tower series and LOST - Imagine my shock when I heard the one reference to all that I sent you be that I believed every major King book EXCEPT the Dark Tower Series contained similarities to LOST!

I also wrote of several of Stephen King's common themes that matched aspects of LOST. I frequently used the Dark Tower series for examples. There were examples from other books that related to LOST, including The Stand (comparing Kate to Nadine, a connection I have not seen elsewhere) but most examples were from the Dark Tower. Yet you said "on the air" that I believed that the Dark Tower was King's book(s) that didn't relate to LOST!

It is your podcast and you have every right to choose which theories and contributors to air. However, you did not lack for material to fill out your podcast as you stated towards the end. I sent you so much. I had to email it to you because it was too much to post on the board. You didn't have to agree with it to use it on a podcast. especially one in which you were lacking in material as you said towards the end.
I was - I am - totally shocked to be so totally misrepresented. Did you read any of what I wrote?

I don't know what's to be done about it now. Nothing, I suppose, but this post to clearly state that I see The Dark Tower Series as having a very strong influence on LOST's storylines and characters, not the other way around.

hey guys, i love your podcast!! i've downloaded a few of the other ones, which shall remain nameless, and i've found yours to be the most helpful and the best! the others, while entertaining, just don't do it for me like yours does. i also have to give a shout out to the official podcast, though. being a student of film, i LOVE character development, and getting to know more about them, and what the actors go through on the set. so i have to say that the official podcast and yours are my favorites.

that said, i just want to make a little observation. while i love all the speculation and things you talk about on the show, i just want to point out that on the official podcast it was mentioned that it isn't necessary to "read into everything" too deeply. the person that just watches for fun will be able to understand everything that will happen on the show. please don't get me wrong, i love to speculate and theorize as much as the next guy, (that's what the show is about-the mystery) but that's an interesting point they made. it will be nice to see how this turns out, and to see which theories are right. just thought i'd put that out there for everyone. as always, LOVE the show, and keep it up!

The Stand connection scares me for one reason. The Stand is a classic example of a Steven King book that is cool as hell until the end. He spends all this time setting up great ideas and creating cool characters, then ends it with the lamest ending ever. They all blow up. It's like he just all of the sudden ran out of ideas and just said fuck it - A problem that plagues King's writing in general.

I hope this doesn't bode ill for the outcome of LOST.

I just wanted to say:

a) great stuff, as per usual, dudes.

b) I was really disconcerted by the writers' recent "We're heavily inspired by Stephen King's The Stand" comments. I'm not much of a King fan (although my friend often recommends the Dark Tower books but there's just too many others I want to read first), and I think if Lost turns out to be just a good v. evil battle on the Island, that's a whole heck of a lot less interesting than all the other things they COULD be doing with the clues they've dropped, and

c) Anyone else think the 'Life Extension Project' memo from the Hanso site will come into play with the "character we thought was dead" returning? I vote for Jack's Dad, myself.

I looked at the Copenhagen image from the hanso site http://www.lostlinks.net/images/copenhagen.jpg

In the lower right corner of the image is a page that says the "requested site [is] 20 km northeast of Jackson, Michigan."

The lat-long coordinates listed are 42.23.36 and -84.15.00
That is indeed a location northeast of Jackson, Michigan. It's actually right on main street of Munith, Michigan.

Any significance to Munith? Wikipedia lists it as a small unicorporated town with no stoplights. Yahoo yellow pages show no interesting businesses.

one thing of note, though, is that those coordinates do have several of the lost numbers in it.

John, apology accepted and thank you for your concerns. I have led too many boards not to understand how hectic it gets and how easy it is to make mistakes, especially when "going live" on an internet resource.

I have been way behind on email and everything due to family coming home for the holidays. It wasn't until today that I read your email and for that I apologize. I will be back to you by email, but I just want to say that I really appreciate your concern and your quick response trying to make things better. I guess my initial respect for you guys was well-deserved.

Bryan, you really should read the Dark Tower series. It is very different from the rest of King's works, although it incorporates most of them. All roads lead to the hatch in Lost(MOS,MOF); All roads lead to the Dark Tower in Stephen King's world - he even gives 2 endings. The "tie things up" and then, with a strong warning about going further, a deeper more disturbing ending.

I don't know who to predict will be back alive - so many choices - but I can add to the list of choices: the pilot, Sayid's bomber friend, Shannon's father, Walt's mother, Kate's stepfather ... writing this just made me realize how many losties have a dead or absent parent -- I think the most interesting person to be brought back would be the pilot - the "monster" sucks out his organs and then rejuvinates him with their formula or clones him. The same could be said for Jack's Dad, but the pilot might know alot more clues. lol

Hey great podcast, I love listening to your podcast after the next episode. This provides a little humor when you miss the mark. Keep up the great theorizing; it is fascinating to hear other’s theories and to wonder if the show writers are putting as much effort as the fans are?

First I want to say you guys are doing such a great job with this podcast. It really compliments the show well. I found your podcast on i-tunes on Christmas and started listening from your first Podcast. What a ride!! I laughed so hard when you guys stared imitating Desmond’s accent “…Brother!” I had not seen those episodes in a while and it was great!!! I am now on your last Podcast and can’t believe I am at the end - I know I will be going into “Lostcasts withdrawal” until you have your next podcast.

I just wanted to give you some of my reactions to items on LOST (I apologize if these have been hashed and rehashed on the forums, I just started looking):

What stood out for me when watching the orientation film is when they talked about studying human behavior. I think that it is possible that the whole button-pushing deal is really just an observation of human behavior. Nothing will actually happen if they don’t push the button. They just want to see how long people will continue to push the button. Also, when you add up all of the numbers, it is 108, which is how much time is restarted on the clock. So if this is a farce, the computer is rigged up to just add together any/all numbers entered together and restart the timer to that total.

Another thing I thought of when seeing the “smoke” monster was that it was all man-made. And the big monster just sounded like they were pounding something really big on the ground. Hey, if they have a “rollercoaster cable” to pull something big down, they have to have something to slam something else down. It reminded me of the M. Night Shyamalan movie called “The Village”. There really is no monster it is just a way to keep people away from that area of the island.

Lastly, two comments about your podcasts:

1. I think that the “slash” you see on Shannon’s shirt is actually a fold in her shirt, and not a knife wound.

2. In your last podcast (#12- Holiday Special), when you were talking about the picture supposedly from the Hanso foundation website – you stated that when things show up, they do not disappear. But when I went to the first link you sent regarding the sickness memo for “Podcast 9, The Other 48 Days“ , I got this “Error Message” instead of the image:

I personally think that the monster sounds like the sounds in the airplane when it was crashing. Probably why Rose and Hurley thought it was familiar.

I went comment on the theory about the picture on Desomond's table and the lady who wanted to adopt Claire's baby and I discovered I had posted on another (wonderful) website. But since I was writing in response to something here, I thought I'd post it here. Here goes:

"This "same character" thread seems a good place to ask this. It seems that lots of the "extras" keep appearing in many of the different characters' flashbacks. I keep saying "wow, this person looks familiar" over and over. I have noticed some flashback castmembers who I think appear as extras in other flashbacks (Is the maid walking by who has the cart Kate steals a key from in "What Kate Did" Hurley's mother? Is the supposed CIA woman who manipulates Sayid Anna Lucia's mother? Is Kate's Tom in Jack's flashbacks? Is there someone who looks alot like Walt in the crowd that interviews Hurley and his family. Could Walt have a brother? ) Can any of you who know how to make screen captures check these out?

Also there seems to be many names the writers keep using, like Emily, Tom, Brian, and some others. Why, with so many names available, are certain names repeated two, three or four times. They are not normally the same person either.

Hi! I was very interested about the connection with Claire's boyfriend and the mural, so i did some research and i found this web page on lostlinks that you HAVE to check out-http://www.cs.iastate.edu/~andorfc/iowa_mural.html
It has lots of close up parts of the mural and it shows certain words that show up e.g. The mural appears to say "Stop Walt" and "Dr. M. Sick" (which could be referring to dr. marvin candle). It also appears to have some of the numbers on it. Interestingly, it shows a photo of a lava lamp in Claire's boyfriend's apartment which has magically appeared down the hatch... basically check it out because its very interesting!

I have been listening to the past few podcasts and in one of them you spend a lot of time summarizing Walden II (which as a psychologist, I feel you did a good job) but anyhow, when you mention John Locke and his swaddling comment, I wanted to bring something to your attention. The original John Locke, in his writing "Some Thoughts Concerning Education" actually spends an entire section devoted to dismissing swaddling as a rather harmful practice. I have no idea if that is important to the writers since they named a character John Locke, but if so...

Also, Jean-Jacques Rousseau (again another philosopher that the Lost writers love) was another proponent of getting rid of the evil practice of swaddling babies.

Just thought I would drop that idea off to you for your consideration!
