OK, here's my thinking.
firstly, the others are stopping them from finding one of the hatches, probably one that is KEY to the island.
secondly, michael has been forced to backtrack after the gun fight and has to find another way to wherever he's going. He must be heading to some geographical loctaion like the top of the mountian. Because he's not that good at tracking, so walt probably told him to head for a certian point he can see.
third, walt is ok and he was the one sending the messeges. The others were caught by surprise when they saw michal, because they have been too smooth to use gunfire. (there were 3 shells for 7 shots, so they fired the other 4)
and finnaly, i find it kind of funny that Jack still has the key to the gun case, when he's got a whole safe now!!!!
anyways, only 6 more days till the next episode.......stay lost.

Interesting thing about the title of this past episode, "The Hunting Party," - there was a movie by the same name in the '70s, a western with Gene Hackman. Never seen it, but just reading the plot, a few things of note.
The gist of the story is centered on a woman's kidnapping by a gang of criminals and the woman's husband (Hackman) and his cronies set off to rescue her.
I guess Hackman's character, Rudger, sort of turns the hunting of the criminals into a game.
Anyway, the kidnapped woman eventually falls in love with the gang leader, Calder, but Rudger and company continue to track and kill the gang members, though in the end only Rudger wants to continue, even setting out to kill his wife.
The interesting connection is that Walt has been kidnapped by an apparent evil and Jack wants to train an army to go after that evil. It is pretty clear that the plot of the movie and this is the same.
Now, I wonder if the episode title hints, at all, to the possibility that perhaps Walt is better off - like Goodwin said about the children.
Another subtle connection - Rudger's wife is kidnapped by Calder because he wants her to teach him to read (granted, that sounds dumb, but anyway...) - Walt was kidnapped for a reason as well, and he is called 'special' by "Zeke" aka the Bearded Man, but what is Walt teaching them?
Anyway, I thought it was interesting given the plot connection.

Is it just me, or did anyone else think that the "others" we saw in this episode are a different group than those we see when Eko and Jin are tracking Michael?
OK, just me then...

Also, something else I noticed, which actually contradicts what I just said. "Zeke" asked "Alex" to bring Kate to him, is this Rousseau's (sp) Alex that was taken from her? or is she part of the others? Either way I think it's THAT Alex.

-the opinion section-
My thinking is that the "Others" are the original group of scientists and people that were involved with the Dharma Initiative, including the DeGroots (Mr. DeGroot aka Mr. Friendly that we saw this week and on the boat) If you remember from the Orientation Film (I think) the goal was to start a communal research group (and I remember a hint at Henry David Therrou's Walden, either in the film or on the Hanso Foundation Website).
Is it that the "Others" are a group transindental scientists living on the island and conducting their scientific experiments, still to this day?...I think so.
Also, I believe the children are taken for 1 of 2 reasons. 1) If there were "spies" sent to the Island to root out the "Others", they would not be children, simply based on their age...so they are trustworthy = good 2) In the study/ability of psychic / psy-phenomenon (my apologies on my terrible spelling), children are supposed to be more "apt" because they have not been grounded by society and such...they still are open to possibilities and imagination.
My thinking that all of the coincidental contact between all of the people on the island plays into the theory of six degrees of seperation...and that is it...just a really odd coincidence.
Ps, Sara's "someone else" is Sawyer.

Just wanted to say that this whole show lost is awesome. Last nites episode is just another great show on how they can change things up a little and keep you wondering. To my thinking, I wonder if the directors ever come to these sites to read the posting and then realize we are starting to understand, so in return go back to the drawing board and find another way to throw us off. So far they are doing a good job at that.

I was just wondering, did Zeke say that Ethan was one of them or did he just let Jack think that he was.

Just a couple of interesting links I found:

when you click on the FINAL WORDS link you see a link on that page to the Lifeboat Foundation. Check out these links from there:

Just one more:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Darpa
DARPA vs DHARMA ...not a far stretch if you add/change some of the words, considering the Official Lost Podcast said that DHARMA is an acronym.

I dont think that the others have such a strong connection with the hanso foundation/the monster ANYMORE. I think they were definitaly affected by the "incident" and could have been workers from the foundation or they are the experiments. I like the podcasts theory of the mantuak experiement relation.
Also I think that michael is heading towards another hatch or possibly a "main hatch".`

There has been a lot of speculation of the x-rays show in The Hunting Party. The date seems not so long ago, which puts the show timeline into question. Is it now, is it in the future, when? HOWEVER, if you look at the hospital listed on the chart, it is St Francis medical center west. Google shows this to be a hospital in Hawaii. Unless http://www.stfrancishawaii.org/sfhs/ is an ABC created site, I just think they grabbed some x-rays and showed them without making sure they took out the time/place. Seems very sloppy, though. Hawaii as the hospital location seems too much of a coincidence.
Otherwise, what is Jack doing in Hawaii?

I also think that there are two groups of "others" as the group with the teddy bear looked different, they were shoeless, unlike the group that confronted Jack and seemed more savage? Zeke seemed not to know about Ethan but made comments that could be related to other hatches, being part of DARMA makes sense. Are they punching the #’s in a hatch also? Is that why Walt has access to a computer?
I also think the "Alex" is Russo’s Alex and maybe the woman on the raft when they took Walt.
Sara may have left Jack for Sawyer but could it be that she was also having an affair with Jack's father? This might explain why Jack hates his father so much and why Sara said she was leaving for "someone else" meaning not Jack's father.

OK - this business with Michael is getting way too suspicious.
First, he had plenty of time to leave the hatch after he knocked Locke down, yet he makes a big speech to Jack. He refuses the offer of help to find Walt, yet the help could surely could not have hurt the chances of getting Walk back from the Others safely.
He must have gotten very close to the place where the Others appear, closer than Kate in fact, yet he is not used as a hostage. The sum total outcome was that the Others got some additional weapons and the ammo in them and got the opportunity to tell Jack to back off. All, it seems, because Michael just decided to go off after Walt.
Undoubtedly the Others know about the hatch but, for whatever reason, (quarantine fears etc) they could not, or did not want, to get inside it. It having been opened by the survivors, they sure wanted the weapons. Added to this, the Hanso website has the thing that plays his first message session but replaces 'Michael' with 'Mole'.
Is Michael a mole? Perhaps an unwilling one being blackmailed by the Others with threats about Walt?
I would lay odds that he wanders back in 2 or 3 episodes claiming not to have enountered the others, nor Walt and, probably, with a full clip of ammo in his rifle - which Locke will discover when he takes the rifle from him.

Why did it not occur to any of the 815ers to ask "Zeke" (short for Ezekiel? Another biblical connection? Hmm), if he doesn't want to share the island, why he destroyed the one chance the 815ers had of leaving?
Also, I was disappointed not to hear the phrase "Fine, we don't want to be here, either. Show us a way home and we're gone, dude" (sorry, channeling Hurley...)
Posted by: lithaborn | January 20, 2006 at 09:23 AM
one other thing..........why ask ana lucia to train an army........she's a cop while Syid is an actual Army officer!!
i think he would have a better reason.
i know the producers want to put ana and jack with each other.......but come on......jack is a logical guy!!

No one's mentioned this yet....Geronimo Jackson, the band charlie and hurley were talking about... um... pretty sure they're not a real band. Do a simple google search and all you'll get are threads of people asking similar questions about this band. So why make up another fictional band (the other being Driveshaft)?? Maybe it's some plot that will be developed later or in another season?
Found that interesting, thought you guy's should mention that in you're podcast.

Simple answer to why Jack didn't ask Sayid about training an army: Jack isn't just asking Ana-Lucia. I'm sure he's going to ask him too. He probably wants as much input and help as possible. She was sitting alone, and he wanted to talk to her. Her experience with the Others focused him on her.

I love your Lostcasts. I spend as much time as I can on the forums, but with 2 little ones that's NOT as much as I'd like.
If I had one request... could you try and keep your podcasts under 80 minutes? I spend about 12 hours a week in the car, so I burn your podcasts to CD and listen to them as I drive.

Alright, This May Have Been Mentioned Before, But While I Was Reading Trough Old Posts There Was A Miss Print. Someone Said "Even If everyones Theories Of Locke Being From The Island" (instead Of Ekko). I Was Wondering Was It Ever Said Where Locke Adventure, Outback Thing Was Going? Is It Possible Locke Knows So Much About The Island Because He Was Trained To Be There And Wasn't aloud To Go?
Just A Thought, Keep Up The Great Work.

Someone asked if you can keep the length of your podcasts down. No way! Yours is by far the best quality, most well researched and most entertaining production in the Lost podcasting universe, and we need more of it each week! I put in on my mp3 player and go trail hiking with it and for that I need at least 2 hours. Come on guys - give us more!!!

Emily Of The Consistent Capitalization,
That is a great idea about Locke - I've seen a few threads about how Locke was one of the Dharma-experiment-kids who was torn away from the island and has now returned, and perhaps he doesn't even realize the secrets of his own childhood. All I can say is it'd make a fascinating addition to the backstory, but as of yet, who knows? Great idea, though, it gets my mind a'going.
The thing that has been captivating me most consistently the past week has been the black smoke/ smart dust/ security system, particularly how from the pilot episode on, we hear Rose in the background saying, 'That sounded familiar.' It doesn't sound familiar to me! I keep trying to figure out what the normal-world-equivalent could be.
Particularly if it's made of smoke and comprised of whirling, whizzing, snap-sounding mechanisms with snapshots of the subject-before-it's life.

Has anyone looked closely at a screencap of the Losties having that 'little talk' with Zeke/Beardy?
When all of the others/scientists have their sticks lit up.. if you look at the top of the picture, you can see someone who looks a lot like Walt. I know it's a long shot, but look at the way the body is standing. Also, the person looks dark skinned to me..

These comments are just as great as the show. Lost is so captivating that it keeps me interested. I appreciate everyones thoughts and ideas on what they think. Which in return makes the show so great. If you think about it maybe that is why they call the show Lost. I guess we are all lost on the idea of this show. No one knows, not even the producer knows where this show is going. Which in turn makes the great show called Lost. Just an idea. Keep it up everyone.

This Is Pathetic, I'm Sitting Here On A saturday Morning Waiting For Your Podcast To Come Out! Anyways,
I think Everyone Agrees That There Were Images In The Smoke. Most People Agree They Are From Ecko's Past. I Don't Think The Losties Can See The Smoke Or The Images. I Think They Do See A Monster Of Sorts Or A Single Image Of Something That Will Keep Them Looking At It. The Reason They Must Look At It? My Thoughts Are That The Smoke Is Not The Same Thing That Killed The Pilot, But Is a Tool Being Used By Another Force On The Island.
Yes My Theory Leaves Plenty Of Room For Being Wrong Or Adding On Your Own Ideas. That's What Makes It A Theory! People Who Are Saying I'm Right And Your Wrong Don't Leave Room To Test And Change Their Theories. Ok Ok Enough Rambling For Now...

Hey, guys! I left an audio message earlier but I stumbled on something else really cool. I know the Montauk Project has been a theory of particular interst for you and I also know that the creators ahve said that we will discover what exactly brought Flight 815 down by season's end. Could it have to do with the project? Are the writers having fun with the alleged incident? I never heard of the connection between Montauk and the downed TWA Flight 800 but apparently there are tons of articles over the internet about this connection. I don't know. Food for thought. I've never heard your Montauk theory incorporate the actual plane crash.

Ok I know this is off topic but Ive been thinking about this for awhile now. You know the noise that the monster makes, well its VERY similar to the noise made by an Artillery gun used in World war 2 known as the "Screaming Mimi", It would make this very loud horn like sound when fired, its strikingly similar to our monster and you can find sound clips of it around the place, and in the game Call of duty 2.

Something I was just a little confused aboutwas Mr. Eko and the whole priest deal. If he's not really a priest why is he acting like one? He doesn't have to put up a charade for the people on the island because they know nothing of his past. And does he even have the authority to baptize Claire and the baby? In Catholic churches, that's a right only an ordained priest can perform.
