Wow... great episode of LOST tonight. We got great character development and a few new mysteries. As always, we'll have plenty to talk about in the podcast this weekend.
Got thoughts about Sayid, Locke, Jack or the newest cast member from Minnesota? See anything interesting when the timer reached zero, or in next week's preview? Post your comments here, send us an email or leave an audio comment via our automated voicemail at 206-666-2278.
Remember, this weekend Robert and Brian are skiing, so we'll have a guest host. He told me he flew into Dallas in a hot air balloon. Weird.

Hey guys great podcast. Tonight's episode was one of the best. When the counter counted down to zero and the red symbols flipped up they appeared to be hieroglyphics. I just did project on hieroglyphics so I might be able to decode them as soon as the the screencaps are up. Also I noticed that in Sayid's flashback the Army captian in the hummvee was holding what appeared to be a picture of Kate, this means that Kate's "good/fake Dad" was the one with Sayid. Looking forward to this weeks podcast!

ok, so in the promo for the next episode i caught something quick, like 2 frames of this. it may turn out to be nothing but i saw the words "escape hatch" on the wall. here is a screen shot.

Hey Mark, If you can find out if those symbols are in fact heiroglyphics definetely send an email or call in a message so we can use it on this weekends podcast.
And Jonathon, Man, quick action on that screen cap. Vary interesting. It seems like the episodes are gathering a good bit of momentum.

There's speculation about the name, Henry Gale and ties to the Wizard of Oz. The Wizard was actually named Oscar Diggs from Omaha, but Dorothy's uncle was named Henry Gale. The Wizard of Oz features prominently in the SciFi books written by Robert Heinlein with mythical worlds and dimensional travel to visit Oz. Interestingly, Wikipedia also reports that the Anime series RahXephon explicitly references the Oz story. RahXephon "draws many of its references from James Churchward's 1931 novel The Lost Continent of Mu; it is a story about an advanced ancient race from a large island in the South Pacific which had sunk, like the legendary continent of Atlantis." See info about Mu http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mu_%28lost_continent%29

About the heiroglyphics.. there are a few rather indepth threads about it on the Fuselage. I hear they're Egyptian?
Posted by: Amber | February 16, 2006 at 12:43 AM
Someone on another forum has a translation of the glyphs up already:
http://lost-forum.com/showthread.php?t=30728&page=21.
(scroll down a little)
It translates as "die," but the translator says later in the thread it means something more like the idea of death or dying.

very dissappointed... I felt teased during this episode- not satisfied. the Official Podcast led me to believe that we would finally get to see what happens when the counter reaches zero....oh, just kidding... You get a quick look at a couple of red hieroglyphics! I was also led to believe we'd finally get some "others" information since we've now captured "one of them" - nope, just kidding... here's a guy rambling off about a hot-air balloon. Nothing moved the story on the island further. Nothing about the others, the hatch, michael, walt, Dharma, polar bears, the monster - just a lot of Sawyer's pursuit of a stupid frog. there are so many things going on on the ISLAND that I'm confused why we spend so much time NOT dealing with them.
the most plot-moving point in the episode was the preview for next week! I'm pretty sure the writer's just draft a preview for every week and then fill in a bunch of junk around it to fill out an hour. I'd get the same amount of story line if I watched the 90 second preview and then changed the channel.
I thought this was supposed to be a sci-fi show about people lost on an island... it's really just a soap opera with an island as backdrop - not what I signed up for.
Am I the only one who thinks this?
Posted by: Big Daddy | February 16, 2006 at 09:03 AM
Is it possible that the heiroglyphs are part of a "code" and that perhaps some of the missing film footage would explain their meaning? I mean Chandler says they need to enter the code in but what if they were suppose to wait for the timer to tick down and then somehow desipher that code (or enter it) and then restart the clock. It seems that Loch was able to restart the process after those glyphs showed up so maybe Desmond had been doing it wrong for years.
Speaking of years... 7 year old ranch dressing? Yuck. I wonder how long it had already been stored at room temperature.
Oh, and Henry is definitely an "other." That look he gave Sayid was very telling.
Posted by: mharp | February 16, 2006 at 09:32 AM
Didn't Anna Lucia mention on "The Other 48 Days" that the Others had no labels on their clothing? You'd think this info. would have been discussed among the losties...but no one checked Henry Gale's clothes to see if they had labels?
Posted by: Bill | February 16, 2006 at 09:47 AM
arent the glyphs just the symbols for the rest of the swan/arrow/flute/crow stations?
Posted by: andrew | February 16, 2006 at 10:25 AM
Don't know if this is the place to mention this, but its the first place i thought of after watching this episode, but when Jack is giving Henry some water when he firsts sees him, you can clearly see from the angle the arrow is sitting that it is two pieces, you see it like 4 times, i just thought this would of been something that the editors would of caught!
great podcast listen every week to see what you guys think, then i tell all my friends!

Hey guys
First I liked this episode a lot. This is one of those classic lost episodes that leave you wanting to watch the next episode straight away.
I think countdown was very interesting especially because of the noises. we have three different alarm speeds and then like a mechanic door opening... the sounds automatically made me think of an underground misile/bomb being launched. It was class... So i'd say entering the numbers is deffinetly important and now they have confirmed it... well ok not absolutely confirmed but it didnt sound like nothing either...
anyway, the comment i wanted to make was did the pliers that Sayid took to torture Henry stayed in the room with Henry? I think I saw them fall to the floor when Sayid launched at him and then Jack pulled Sayid out... Will Henry be untied and attacking whoever storms into the armoury next?

This may be a bit spoilerish, but the next new episode, which isn't until March 1st, appears to be the first island flashback, as in it will be Claire remembering what happened to her when she was abducted.
The more spoilerish part is the return of Ethan as well as Zeke/Bearded Man. Perhaps we will finally get some conformation that Ethan and Zeke were of the same group, which at this point is still up for debate.
As for this past episode ... Egyptian hieroglyphics? A total non sequitur and I loved it.
The Jack-Locke exchange while Sayid beatdown Gale was intense.
Posted by: Raz Minder | February 16, 2006 at 02:01 PM
i'd also like to add that the sound in the bunker gave off the vibe of something very close (behind the concrete) starting to "turn on." You can hear the clanking and whirring of gears as if it were "speeding up." Locke then punches in the numbers, and the sound "slows down" and then stops.
I'm sure it has something to do with an electro magnet, after all, that was the reason for the Swan station.
Posted by: Raz Minder | February 16, 2006 at 02:09 PM
After seeing the hieroglyphs in this weeks episode, it got me thinking about how the egytians paid alot of attention to the star sign orion (of which alot of references seem to appear in lost).
Theres even a theory that they arranged the three great pyramids in the shape of orions belt as it is seen in the star constellation.
see here:
http://doernenburg.alien.de/alternativ/orion/ori00_e.php
I'm thinking aloud here really, but maybe the dharma stations are also arranged in the shape of orion??

mikeboy,
Go back to some of our earlier podcasts. We went through a phase where we talked a lot about the Apollo constalations and there relationship to the stations. It's probably in one of the first 5 casts. Just check the podcast descriptions and you'll see where we discuss it.

Posted by: Blaine | February 16, 2006 at 08:25 PM
Maybe the hieroglyphs had some connection with that pyramid tatoo on Jack's arm?
Posted by: derek | February 16, 2006 at 08:46 PM
Jack's tattoo is Matthew Fox's real tattoo, so I'm not sure it plays an important role in the mythology. I think it just plays a role in Jack's story line, like the fact that he got the tattoo after his divorce from his wife, as we've been lead to believe thus far.
Posted by: Nadia | February 16, 2006 at 09:12 PM
Was Libby really on the plane? She said Hurley stepped on his foot so that would have involved hurley walking past her but she was in the tail end and hurley was in the front so that couldn't have been possible...
Posted by: KG | February 17, 2006 at 12:39 AM
So just one quick thing that caught my attention....when Sayid was questioning the Wizard of Oz (Henry Gale)...Sayid asked how long he had been on the island...Henry says "We LANDED here..." Him saying landed kinda leads me to believe that he might be there on purpose or maybe that's just another glitch in his story to Sayid....
Posted by: Candi | February 17, 2006 at 01:09 AM
this is a definite reach, but when someone said that they pointed to the "broken arrow" taken out of Henry Gale like 4 times, remember that a broken arrow is military code for a lost or missing nuclear weapon, maybe that is what would be launchng when locke finally stops it?
Posted by: lostlaw24 | February 17, 2006 at 01:17 AM
I think the machine-like noise that started when the timer reached zero would have been the blast doors starting to close. No one has mentioned them since Michael specifically pointed them out to Locke. The blast doors seal off the hatch, and then...
Something bad happens outside I assume.
Posted by: Smacky | February 17, 2006 at 07:26 AM
Also, I haven't seen this mentioned anywhere, and I'd love an explanation. In the "Hunting Party" episode, Locke reveals he knows Sawyer lied about his name because he saw the manifest.
Okay, last season Hurley used the manifest to confirm Ethan wasn't on the plane. Why didn't Hurley see that the name Sawyer doesn't appear on the manifest? And how did Sawyer explain it to Hurley? Hurley says that Ethan is the only one that wasn't on the manifest.
Did I miss something? Plot hole?

Another week gap until next Lost.... Does someone know if they are still actually filming Season 2, and for some reason they need the breaks to catch up?
Posted by: matt beale | February 17, 2006 at 07:35 AM
One thing i noticed was two of the heiroglyphs were red on black and the other three were black on red. Do you think this symbolizes something?
Based on the Hanso Foundation and Oceanic air papers, some part of this research was government sanctioned (or at least they knew about it) because of that letter that said the gov stopped looking for the crashed plane at the request of somebody,(dharma i think) i forget who. How can something so important be left alone without people from the gov making sure someone was still there pressing the button? I mean, if there was a nuke or something important, wouldn't they keep their eye on that island?
Did anybody notice that the Losties seem more "well kept" than the Others? The Losties are clean, the Others look dirty and scraggled... not just zeke either, all of their pants in previous episodes are torn up and dirty..... based on the upcoming claire kidnapping episode, dont' they have their own hatch with laundry and showers etc?

Hi guys,
Browsing Wikipedia for hieroglyphics, I found the following image;
http://en.wikipedia.org/w/extensions/wikihiero/img/hiero_S29.png
Its called the "folded cloth" and the meaning for that is "Door bolt" which makes me instantly think of the blast doors.
Keep up the awesome work on the podcast.
That is all.

Someone hacked lost-media/forum
This is a disaster, however I love your podcast to pieces.
and its strange how the i-ching appeared in a book i was reading {the subtle knife}. :O

Yeah just as a warning do NOT go on lost-forum right now, the hackers made it redirect to a page that gives you a virus. This is all completely crazy, how LM and LF got hit, seemingly for no reason. Terrible.
Anyway, I have a nice find for you guys. I frequent the numbers forum, and we found the numbers on the tape of the attack on Sayid's village that was shown to him. http://img450.imageshack.us/img450/3521/numbers5rk.jpg
Posted by: Spooky | February 17, 2006 at 08:57 PM
When the clock went down to zero, the noise that occured briefly sounded like a huge generator or engine starting up, presumably something having to do with the giant “electromagnet” (?) under the hatch. Some postings on other forums suggested a pathogen might be released into the environment, but I wouldn’t expect such a large amount of energy to be necessary, the same thing goes for opening doors. A missile/bomb sounds could be possible, or maybe a (space?)ship taking off. It seems strange to me that the hieroglyphs would say “your dead” but yet everyone in the hatch remains alive after the time ran out. Could it be some sort of time dependent process being started that will eventually kill them. But why then would the timer revert back to 108 if they are going to be killed? Maybe the strange look of satisfaction from Henry Gale after Jack pulls Sayid off him is because he heard the timer go down to zero and knows something bad has been initiated. Maybe this was his plan all along. Just a few thoughts….
Posted by: Christine | February 18, 2006 at 12:59 AM
Is there a possibility that the 'others' are the crew of the Black Rock? The fact the ship is there is still another unexplained part of the plot. Surely it wasnt put there just as an entry for dynamite??

I typed in "Knowledge is power" and the following came up:
"7 14 2 2 14 21 19 5 8 14 19 5 8 17
10 12 11 2 8
Husker Du - Powerline 1985"
Followed by the actual tune by Husker Du, the lyrics are here:

I love this site! Its got to be a official tie in...

On a completely unrelated note, I was just flicking through channels on Sky (UK TV), and there was an episode of "The Invisible Man" on Sci-Fi where Daniel Roebuck (Arzt) played a CIA guy.
I flicked to skyone, and caught the last 5 minutes of an episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation called, "Pegasus", which had Terry O'Quinn (Locke) in it.
Lost is following me everywhere!!
:)

Hey I just took a look at that site its really cool. Type in "Time" and it will return your time and location (with the numbers as corrordiantes) also type in "weather" and you will recieve a weather report. If you type "I am" and your name at the end it will start a conversation with you and then display another conversation like the one michael had only this time, after it says "who is this" "Mole" is typed in.
Not sure if this site is legit, interesting nonetheless.
Posted by: Mark | February 18, 2006 at 11:05 AM
Mark, thats some cool stuff I havent typed in yet. Here's some more stuff to type in:
"The Monster"
"The Black Rock"
"Radio Tower"
The numbers the lady speaks from when you type in 'radio tower', which are: "17 7 11 14 14 1 8 17 18 12 23 18 12"
"Dharma"
"Whispers"
"Lottery"
"God"
"Animals"
Very interesting stuff. I'm sure if you type in combinations of numbers there's even more info but I'm not good at numbers and decoding, I barely figured out the radio tower thing.

Hi Guys.
I would like to be one of the few people to offer a bad review of this episode. I'll try to make it brief, but I just can't understand how people could bad mouth Fire + Water, and praise this episode heavily. I would first like to say I don't question Carlton and Damon's writing ability, I have loved some of the other they have written, but this episode was a bad example of their talent. There are so many things that I disliked about this episode, so let me begin. First of all, Ana Lucia was way out of character. I mean she is usually a cocky, strongwilled, arrogant person, but in last nights episodes Sayid just tells her to go back, and she does, what the hell? But if that was it, I could have lived with it. But then there so many other problems.
Hurley and Sawyer's subplot is a prime example. First of all, Hurley's food stash was revealed so poorly. I don't even know how to describe it. Not only that, but the subplot was a rehash of the boar one from season one. Plus, just the whole thing felt completely useless and unnessecary.
Finally, the main plot had many other problems. Sayid changes to quickly for me from, "I don't want to hurt him," to, "let's kick his ass." Now, I know it is a 45 minute program so I can deal with that, but why not just take away the sawyer/hurley sub plot instead? But the biggest thing that got me was why did Sayid as Henry Gale to take himto his wife's grave or to the baloon to back up his story? It wouldn't have been so hard. Wait for him to recover, and then take him down to where the supposed baloon is. I don't know, maybe I am being to harsh on this episode, but felt this just be with Adrift and Lost and Found for worst of the season.
However, I don't want people to think I despised every bit of this episode. I liked the interaction between Locke and Jack, and seeing part of what happened when the clock hit zero. Also, it was nice to have Danielle back, and the backstory was interesting too but that wasn't enough to redeem the episode for me. Sorry, if this is too negative a review for people, but hearing Fire + Water trashed, which wasa great character development story, and to hear this one praised suprises me.
P.S. Okay, not so brief after all, sorry.

I typed in the information on the site provided. Firts i typed in God is Power and got the information about those numbers listed above. Second if you type in Hello? and it will respond. Then type in Who are you? It told me Jin's nipple. If you type in Dharma some weird comment and pop up will appear about Charma. Also i have some music playing which is very weird.

That is one of the links.
Great podcast, you all do a very good job. Continue the great work!

http://lxicon.com/eko.monster.gif
This is also what you will get if you type in the monster. GRanted right aftetr i typed this in, i saw that it responded with bob marely 400 years old, very strange...
Other information like whispers come up with a lot more crazy stuff, like a pic of walt on a milk carton...
Posted by: Fitz | February 18, 2006 at 02:00 PM
That pic of Walt on the milk carton was in Hurley's first flashback episode of season 2 I think. Very weird...
Some more stuff for you guys: Type 'music' along with any number between 816 to 802 (i.e "music 810" and also 'music 45' and you get a whole bunch of other tunes that in some way are thematic to the series. Such as Iggy Pop's 'Sickness' and Tom Wait's 'Way Down In The Hole'.
Typing 'Orientation' plays the infamous clip.
I honestly think, at this point, that this site is the update we've been waiting for since the Hanso site went down. But as with Lost you can never tell, it could just be a great fansite...I'm hoping not though.
Posted by: Cihan | February 18, 2006 at 02:27 PM
Cool site! If you type 'where are you' it will dispay a location from google maps. If you right click it you'll see that the site the pic is from is http://lxicon.com/where.we.are.jpg which shows you a larger version of the picture. If you pull it up on Google Earth it is near Micronesia and right below an island called Kosrae.

Hi,
I hope you guys are still reading this far down. The mention on the podcast of Henry Gale pulling a "Kaiser Soze'" (which he obviously is doing) made me think of something. As you know, Kevin Spacey played the Kaiser. Does anyone remember that other Spacey movie, "The Life of David Gale"? David Gale - Henry Gale?
