Giant Sloth

Sawyer is such a poser! I totally can't believe what a sissy they are making him out to be. He threatens Jack, and then what? And Zeke? Get over it, dude.

Sawyer claims he's never done anything good? What about telling Jack that his dad forgave him? Oh, and what about the time he decided not to rip off the guy who plays Luke's brother-in-law on The Gilmore Girls, after finding out the guy had a son? Huh?

And if I have to see Sawyers lumpy shirtless torso one more time, I'm going to throw-up my in flight meal.

What the hell are they eating these days anyway?

mjones

This episode shows just how desperate Charlie is feeling right now. He teams up with Saywer, agrees to do harm to one of his own camp, and then believes he can trust Sawyer keep him as a "SILENT" partner. I think he is really in deep and this may be enough to get him kicked out of the camp all together.

Emily

I thought this was a good episode. No it didn't reveal any island secrets, but I think that all of us blog junkies have to remember that we want this show to continue. The big thing in this episode ( i my opinion) is how the group is dividing and slowly turning on itself. I Believe the group is going to spilt up Caves?, Another Hatch?). I think Dharma's Symbols (http://www.buy-utah.com/images/graphics/bagua-map.jpg) the criteria they pick the "Losties" with. Ok Now If That made any sense. The Dharma experiment WAS ( My theory) that they WERE trying to figure out how to build a perfect society. The others? The experiment went wrong; The scientist were stuck on the island. They weren't ready for the island and it mysteries. Dharma is just a twist on the plane and boat crashes. Problem? I Have no clue what the hells up with the island!!

Emily

I'm sorry that made no sense.. just check out the dharma picture..

Nadia

So I thought I'd mention the Widmore Construction building that Damon talked about in the official podcast. If look up "Widmore" on Wikipedia, you get the "London Borough of Bromley", and Widmore is a section of town in this London borough. Not sure how to extend this to Lost just yet. But, I thought I'd mention it and see what everyone else had to say about it.

So I've been curious for a while now about the Lost main title sequence. It is so different/simple, i love it. I was wondering whether or not anyone can positively identify that swooping font. To the best of my abilities, it looks like Futura Medium, what with the short L/T and circular O.

At the Museum of TV & Radio session on Lost earlier this year, J.J. Abrams mentioned that the opening titles were done on his Mac as temporary titles, but they ended up using them on the show. So that supports the Futura theory as well, since its a design staple on designers' Macs everywhere.

That main font is different than the one used for the marketing stuff and on the merch. though. I dont really care for that one as much, and dont even want to know what it is.

EXCELLENT EPISODE!
Man, Nothing like Locke and Jack getting owned by Sawyer. Once again showing that despite his need to be hated, Sawyer rocks.

And poor Charlie. Lets hope no one finds out you attacked Sun or it's game over for you. Great episode!

Burnt72

This was a good episode, besides the total backstory stealing from David Mamet's 'House of Cards' -- a great movie/play in itself... essentially the EXACT SAME plotline as Sawyer's flashback scenes...

Love the references to Glenn Miller & Ambrose Bierce (author of 'Occurance at Owl Creek Bridge' -- the book Locke was looking through in the hatch) -- both of these guys are famous American 'missing persons'.

Also, I really like the shake-up of the dynamics within the group. Kind of reminds you that they really is no security in their tribe.

Overall - more fun from the writers, and I like that characters are kicking it up a notch...

David

Very good episode, much better than Charlie's last week IMO, one thing that did randomly pop into my mind, was, could it've been possible that Sawyer's 'partner' (the guy he was with at the restaurant where Kate's Mum worked) is the original Sawyer, the one that James (our Sawyer) wants to kill, and maybe he has changed his name to be able to work with Sawyer????

I don't even know why he would be, it was just something random that I thought of.

Cihan

Nadia, I went to college for a couple years in Bromley, its a dump and I'm sure the place has nothing to do with Lost whatsoever. I also dont think Battersea Power Station has anything to do with anything either, just the construction company itself is what we're meant to be aware of (Mike maybe helped design some of the Dharma bunkers, which would be very amusing). I think, anyway.

Great episode.

Lazerbeam

Man, Charlie! You are turning into one bad dude. I feel bad for Charlie. I think Locke had been slipping heroin into Charlie's food, but now that Sawyer moved the stash, that's all over. I was glad that Charlie refused the heroin, but he still seems pretty upset about Locke. Sawyer is really cool. I like him even when he does bad stuff.

Solglo

Is anyone else wondering why Locke didn't just change the combo to the vault?

rdas7

I love the bit where Jack Bauer showed up. Oh wait. Wrong ep.

That nod to the forums when Hurley says the transmission could be coming from "any time" was awesome. Especially since they picked up some 50yr. old song... I immediately thought... Philadelphia Experiment anyone?

Ha. Looks like everyone on the island's got a bit of a dark side now though... are there any good guys left? So far only Clare and Aaron seem clean?

dgstan

No, there are no good people left. I believe that in this upcoming battle of good -vs- evil, The Others represent the "good" side while our lostaways are evil. Remember, The Others had a list of all the "good" tailies that they were abducting.

They left behind:

Tailies:
Ana Lucia (all around bitch and killer)
Eko (drug lord)
Libby (psycho? liar?)

Fusies:
Sawyer (con man and more)
Charlie (junkie, and all that entails)
Kate (murderer)
Jun (muscle for corrupt businessman)
Sayeed (torturer, etc.)
Jack (I'm sure we'll find out some horrble thing he's done)

My belief is that The Others want to protect the "good" castaways from the "bad" castaways. That is why they're kidnapping them. In reality, if The Others were bad, they would have killed everyone by now.

I wouldn't be surprised if several of the castaways (Locke, Hurley, Claire and son) defect over to The Others at some point (maybe sooner than later - now that their bucolic camp life is devolving into "The Lord of the Flies"). Michael and Walt are already with them.

Lostaway

What a great and exciting episode!. Needless to say, i`ll be awaiting your podcast with great anticipation.

:)

Cihan

I just noticed someone on an AICN talkback mention that Gary Troup (author of 'Evil Twin') is an acronym for 'purgatory'. NOT GOOD. ><

But, having said that, the entire scene with Hurley WAS a tongue poke at the obsessive fans, so I'll take it as "Sorry, its not purgatory OR time travel related."

Cameron

Just a second before Hurley made the 'joke' about the radio signal coming from 'any time', it looked like a red hot ember/spark thingy flew off the fire and straight into his nose.

Damn that would have had to have hurt big time! But he just sort of sat there motionless like he didn't even feel it.

Did anyone else see that?

Cihan

Cameron, this obviously means:

1] That Hurley was wearing a fake prosphetic mask that looks exactly like his own face for some mysterious reason that actually protected him from being hurt by the spark.

2] That was an android imitation of Hurley, which would account for his overly enthusiastic dialogue in the scene.

3] Hurley's power is the ability to ward off sparks and other flashing sparkly things that burn like hell when they touch your skin.

Either way, Sayid's a chump in that scene, talking to a dude who has him duped. Like a chump, I say.

In other news I'm bored out of my skull waiting for the next LostCast. Can anyone tell!?

johnny

i agree... when can we downlaod the next podcast. i wish the lostcast guys gave us a time close to when the podcast would be ready for downloading because im bored.

Cameron

The waiting is killing me too. I am sitting here in Sydney, where it is already Sunday morning. I am praying to gods of podcasting that the file will be put up in time for me to load it on my mp3 player and go hiking with it - the one high point of my week. Damn, this is worse than waiting for the actual episodes to air!

Pirate Guy

Yeah, I love this podcast too much especially since it tells me all the things I missed in the episode, and i never have enough to go on the forums a lot. I hope it's up soon, but if it isn't, I can always wait.

Archie Bunker

Today with the Podcast!!!!!!! Seriously, hope all is well with you guys.

Cihan

On the other hand its better that the podcast is released a few days after the episode airs because they have more time to discover the easter eggs and prowl the Net for opinions, etc. Makes for a very informative podcast, so its worth the wait.

Blinder

Sorry to keep everyone hanging.

We're recording tomorrow at 11am and the post will probably be live by 1pm or 2pm.

I don't know why we didn't do it today, but if you want to blame anyone, blame Robert.

I'll give him some grief tomorrow for all of you.

Jonathan

Heads will roll.

Well not really, I just like using that phrase. So much so that I will say it again.

Heads will roll.

freshinator

This was the longest most dismal Saturday ever. I felt Desmond after Kate put a bullet in my computer.

Tessa

Just wanted to say that I thought "The Long Con" was the best episode this season and up there with some of the best from last season. It's good to see Sawyer being Sawyer again, he was starting to almost become just comic relief and everyone's whipping boy. He's actually one of the most interesting characters on the show. Basically Sawyer ROCKS! And him and Kate absolutely sizzle together. But then again, him and Jack have great chemistry too. (I'm still convinced Jack is gay. It certainly would explain a lot!)

I love your podcasts!

Kris H

Aww man! After 15 hours of work today I was looking forward to nerding out to the latest LOSTCast! What a bummer to find out it didn't go live today. It's all good though, only a matter of time before we get our fix. This podcast is like my Virgin Mary statue! Gotta have it! Keep up the great work as always!

Joe Green

The Long Con was a very good episode. But just how long was the con? How long has Sawyer been planning it out? We don't know when Charlie and Sawyer first discussed the idea, or when Sawyer had it in mind.

It feels like we're slowly drifting back into Season 1. Sawyer was pretty popular for a while, but in this episode he reverts back to his want to be hated. Charlie is sneaking about once again, and Locke is back to being a neutral character. Jin and Sun are probably going to isolate themsleves a little after this incident, especially if it becomes known that it was someone in the camp who carried out the attack. Good ol' fun-time Hurley is back again, and he managed to cheer up Sayid. Over the end of S1, with the launch of the raft and discovery of the hatch, people had alot to keep them busy. Now that things have calmed down the characters are interacting alot more and their personalities are being drawn out.

On a side note, Sawyer's one liners are usually great. But the "there's a new sherrif in town" speech was possiby the cheesiest moment in LOST so far.

matt beale

i have to wait up until middnight UK time for the new podcast!

Look at this this way, it will be nice, when the new official podcast is out tomorrow, not 2 days time, and then its only 2 days to new episode, not 3!

Jennifer Cochran

Hi guys! JenC from The Fuselage. I tried downloading some other podcasts about Lost because I can't get yours yet. They are no substitute. :)

So what's your take on the length of the con? Did Sawyer know she'd ask to be taught to con people?

What a great episode. Is it Wednesday yet?

eve phoenix

I think Sawyer actually did the smart thing in taking the guns and hiding them. He was telling them, "Man, y'all are nuts!" Sawyer might be a con man, but he seems saner and more in-control of himself than anybody else, except for Locke, but he has his moments of craziness too! Sawyer, or somebody, needed to get their attention quickly and that was his way of doing that. I think now that the Losties' posse has had time to cool down, if they eventually do go out after the Others, it'll be more organized and focused. Instead of starting a war buy going off half-cocked (so to speak), they need more time to get organized. Sawyer might have helped the army's cause now, whether or not he intended to do that.

And Sawyer's torso is not that bad to look at! A little somethin' for the ladies, right?

That's all for now! Stay lost guys!

Cihan

Some people have said that Sawyer did have feelings for Cassidy, but I think the flashback showed he didnt have any at all, I mean he planned a long con, went through with it, and even at the end put the picture of them face down. C'mon, anyone who could do all that was not in love at all. He's cooold. Thats not to say he's been in stasis, everyone has been through subtle changes on the island as is the requirement of good storytelling, there's still a character arc yet for Mr Sawyer, but it hasnt been long on the island (50-something days?) and a tiger dont change her stripes so easily. Or lose them. Or change them into zigzags. Or pawn them off for thundercat toys.

Anyway...

Roger Ebert

Scene from Apollo 13 I just watched on TV-

GENE KRANTZ (FLIGHT DIRECTOR - WHITE)
- I want whatever you guys got on these Podcast procedures.

DEKE SLAYTON
- Gene. They're already...

GENE KRANTZ (FLIGHT DIRECTOR - WHITE)
- I don't want the whole damn bible. Just gimme a couple chapters. We gotta get something up to these guys.

DEKE SLAYTON
- They're working on it now.

FAO - WHITE
- I'll call over at the simulator and get an estimate...

GENE KRANTZ (FLIGHT DIRECTOR - WHITE)
- God, damn it! I don't want another estimate! I want the PODCAST! Now!

Jennifer Cochran

I agree Eve. I have no issues with Sawyer's torso, even though I am more of a Jack girl.

Let's take a vote - what's worse, waiting for a new episode of Lost, or waiting for a new Lostcast?

I have a suggestion about your site. *I* would read an "about us" section. What I like best about Lost is learning about the characters - I'd love to learn about you guys too!

John

The podcast is finished, but we're having some problem with the hosting... hopefully it will be up soon. Sorry for the delay!

Raz Minder

Don't worry about the delay. All good things take time.

One of the great things about LOST are the subtle things put out there by the writers. I thought using a piece of music from Glenn Miller and a book (which has its own possible meaning) written by Ambrose Bierce was another clever use of props and such. Both Miller and Bierce are "missing people" just like our lostaways.

Waiting for a new episode of for a new Lostcast
