A Rundown and Some Questions:
1.) Bernard- not the best group leader- but he really loves his wife! (yeah, I cried.)
2.) Rose- Appears to also love Bernard. She’s yet another example of the island’s miraculous healing power. She knows Locke was in a wheelchair, and she gives a good pep talk without actually giving a pep talk.
3.) Jin- Looks like he’s picking up some English- “sorry”
4.) Sun- not to start back with the whole look thing, but Jin looked happy while rubbing her belly and she looked like she was off in another world.
5.) Ana Lucia- Curious about what Locke’s up to. (And she pushed the button)
6.) “Not Henry”- 2 weeks ago he was Budda, last week he was Christ, this week- Ghandi (food strike and silence). He knows he’s really getting to Locke. And he seems to know about Walt – this would associate him with the “Zeke Others” or he just acted like he knew who Walt was to continue his lying streak….
7.) Locke- looks like he’s getting his faith in the island back (that is, after Rose’s pep talk). Seems like he’s got a decent memory too- he’s working awful hard to remember what he saw on the map. Also seemed like he plans to go exploring when his legs heal. (I’m so glad we’re getting back to the old Locke- the little lost puppy that he was turning into was awful!)
8.) Kate- thank goodness she finally told Jack about finding the beard, etc….
9.) Jack- No crying in the woods, but seemed like he wouldn’t mind another kiss…. Lots of yelling in the woods... remind you of anyone? ~forshadowing…name starts with M~
10.) Michael!- not so sure that’s the same old Michael we’re used to- wonder if he’s been captured by the others and is being forced to drive our losties into a trap in order to save Walt…or maybe he really did just find the others and spy on them and then return to the losties for help- (not very likely given his tendency to yell and act irrational in the jungle)
11.) Eko and Charlie- looks like we got conformation on the church. (Best line of the show- Bernard’s comment to Eko about hitting people over the head with his stick!)
12.) Neil Frogurt- Can’t believe Damon and Carlton were actually being serious about that! (I’m afraid that was a wild tangent that came to fruition just so that we’ll totally fall for the next fib they tell us…)
13.) Vincent- so he didn’t live up to the hype that was out there about him having a big role in this show….
14.) “These arms of mine” …no real comment there, it’s just stuck in my head.
- Did anyone get a screenshot of that page Locke was drawing his map on at the end of the episode? It looked like a page from a book (just curious what book, given the writers tendency to incorporate literature)
- I think the “others” know that the losties have “not Henry” in the hatch- If they don’t know it from watching them, then they might have at least missed him by now- could be he’s low man on the totem pole and they don’t care what happens to him, or he’s really important and they are laying in wait, planning their rescue effort. (It would be an interesting twist for the end of the season to have the losties invading the other’s camp while the others are invading the hatch…)
- Jack’s observations that the others didn’t want Kate or him, along with Kate’s “damaged goods” comment…very curious, like they know the others are after “good people.” How would they know that???
- Do you really think that the trap was Rousseau’s? She normally camouflages them- so what was up with the creepy doll?
Sorry for the monster post- hopefully it will generate good comments rather than “keep your posts short” messages! 

Woo~Hoo! I was the first to post- How exciting! (Sorry, I know I'm a total geek!)

Hey guys, this has probably already been brought up but an answer to some of the mysteries, such as how Jin was able to give Sun a child and why Rose feels better might be Cosmic Rays. I heard a story about them on the Discovery Channel. They sometimes cause minor gene mutations. This might be enough to stop roses illness and possibly help Jin be able to have a child. Its a strtch but you could say that it explains the sickness too, but I don't know enough to say. But thats what I thought when the "healer" talked about different places on the earth do different things. Thanks for the podcast.

Aileen

Hey guys,
Love your show. There are a few things I've been thinking about, not necessarily all to do with this particular show...here goes...
(and my apologies if this has already been covered--I just started listening to your show.)

I think there is an interesting parallel between the penal colony Australia was began as, and the "colony" of the Losties. I've tried doing research on penal colonies, to see if they included mental patients, but couldn't find much. I don't think it's outside of the realm of possibility, though, that penal colonies included criminals and mental patients. I don't necessarily think that they've formed such a colony with the Lost crew, but it's an interesting parallel, anyway, considering their flight departed from Australia.

Speaking of mental illness, we all know that Locke's mother is paranoid schizophrenic. This illness happens more often when it's in the family. Many comments have been made about Locke's sanity, esp. by Jack last season. So Locke could have two reasons to be here--to cure his paralysis and to stave off mental illness...perhaps the island has healing powers on physical and mental illness.

Someone made a comment about Sun's look--I noticed the same thing. She didn't look all that happy. Have you all discussed the possibility that Sun had an affair with her English tutor? That storyline was kind of left up in the air, and although Sun did seem genuine when she said she hadn't been with anyone else, I can't help wondering...

Can't wait for the next show! Thanks!
Aileen

Hi guys... I'd just quickly like to say that I really enjoy the podcasts.

Now, I'm posting from Australia and this is probably something only an Australian would notice, but the licence plate on the 4WD that Rose and Bernard were driving wasn't a standard Northern Territory issue (the Territory of Australia where Uluru is). The licence plates issued in the NT are typically a series of two groups of three numbers, not three letters and three numbers like the one on the 4WD.

It's probably nothing, but hey, this is Lost...

riverfr0zen

posted this on jay&jack's forum too, but anyway:

anyone catch the sad smiley face on the overhead (incomplete) S.O.S shot (as Rose & Bernard are making up towards the end)? The smiley's eyes are made up of two mounds of unused rocks, and the smile is made up of the filled-in part of the 'S'.

Also, there's a triangle in the smiley's forehead. You could interpret the whole thing another way - some kind of flying craft (the triangle) crashing, with two clouds and an island at the bottom (filled in are of 'S'). There are streak lines from the triangle that look like wind-direction lines.

On another note, perhaps one of those kids on Picard's wall were one of those two kids taken from the tailies camp.

Ok, a few things i would like to point out...

1. when Jack and Kate reached the "line their not supposed to cross" there was a giant "black rock" behind them, I wonder if that is the same black rock from the hatch map that is the last known resting place of Magnus Hanso...

2. It is a little suspicious that Micheal just happens to collapse right in front of Jack and Kate, so maybe he is leading them into a trap to get Walt back, or maybe not we only have to wait THREE FREAKING WEEKS TO FIND OUT... but Lost is always worth the wait...

also I was really happy to see the old Locke at the end of the episode, his tantrums were really annoying me.

Matt Jones

Liked the episode. The character drama is still the heart of the show. The Rose/Bernard back-story did a great job at developing the characters while advancing the overall story.

Quick takes:

Michael is bait. Sawyer will recognize that. He knows a con when he sees one. Jack on the other hand will buy it hook line and sinker.

Locke might be getting his head together thanks to Rose's pep talk.

I'm thinking that Not Henry is a pretty big deal. Maybe "Him."

The Losties don't seem to keen to get off the Island. Maybe they are just resigned to their fate. Or, maybe their lives were so screwed up in the real world that the Island is actually an improvement.

Sun still looks suspicious to me.

I'd hate to be Bernard's dental hygienist.

Bernard's line to Ecko was funny, but line of the night honors go to Sawyer's Norma Ray reference.

Need to watch it again....

Jason

Hi guys,
Love the podcast - listen to it every week.

Couple of things in this episode:

1) The note on the healer's wall that looked like it was in child-like handwriting - it was in blue marker...do we think that has any significance since we CLEARLY focused on it?

2) Will the fact that Jack and Kate got stuck in that net have any real significance beyond furthering their relationship, or was it just a ploy of the producers to get them close?

3) Just wondering, why is it that the actors playing Libby, Ana Lucia, and Mr. Eko are listed as regular cast members, but Sam Anderson who plays Bernard is not? Could it be he's not long for this island? (I'm not saying he's going to be locked in a [hatch] with a couple of hungry vampires, but....)

4. I think you've talked about it before - but what's the deal with the rain everytime they go into the jungle and the Others are involved? That island has a LOT of coincidental rain showers.

5. What exactly is notHenry planning? That look we got of his smile (saw that coming a mile away) when Locke was asking about the button was meant to be a "I got him right where I want him" look - question is, what's he planning to DO with him now that he has him? Alternately, did Locke get "restored" by Rose?

6. I was surprised by the lack of numbers in this episode -- I don't think there were any - and they even had a chance to put one in - why couldn't have Bernard and Rose been together 4 months or 8 months before he proposed? Could it be that Rose and Bernard are somehow -- separate -- from the rest of the castaways?

Mirko

I'm guessing that Michael was released by the others and chased towards Jack and Kate in anticipation of a deal. I'm with Jack; the others heard him, and they're probably expecting to get "Henry" back now.

Also, there has to be something special about the place where the "line" is, my guess is it may be close to the question mark from the blast door map.

smokem: I noticed the black rock too, but I'm pretty sure the black rock on the map is still the ship. Hell, Magnus could've been one of the skeletons in the hull.

riverfr0zen: I was totally expecting the camera to rotate so the smiley face was right side up. There's no doubt in my mind that the face was put there intentionally. The triangle seems to be two sticks tied together with a tarp between them, and was probably used to drag the black rocks from inland. It looks somewhat like a third eye..

Not Lost/SOS related - but you guys said some podcasts ago about not telling what jobs you did...

this has to be you John & Brian... Rob/Matt - you seem to be safe for now.. ;)

At one point, Ana Lucia was looking at an atlas that was open at a map of South America. Was the place where Bernard proposed to Rose at Niagera Falls, or Iguazu Falls in Argentina/Brazil? If it was the latter, it is an interesting tie-in to the atlas.

Also, did anyone notice that the doll that Kate picked up was missing an eye? There was glass eye in the locker in the arrow station - quite an unpleasant connection, if it is one.

Not a bad attempt to recreate the outback and Uluru by the producers - we actually do have those yellow kangaroo signs by the roadside here in Australia!

Collette

Hm. I liked this episode but it didn't really advance that much. I really liked Bernard and Rose's back story. It was all very sweet and I also liked that Rose does know John's secret.
I have to agree with an earlier poster. Michael isn't all what he seems. He's bait and is more than likely working towards getting Walt back, damn everyone else in the process. Sawyer will see it. Jack will not.

Kathy aka Fangirl

Jason - there was a mention of the numbers. Bernard told Rose he had 15 helpers that are now done to 4.

Coronado

Great to finally see Bernard and Rose's back story, I think it was one of the better back stories that has helped us with the "Mystery of the island," meaning that "this place," according to Rose, has some sort of healing powers.

-Jin and his... you know
-Locke and his legs
-Rose and her sickness

That's all I can think of, but in time I think we will see that the island has healed many more of the LOSTees.

Now I am really beleiving that Locke is losing faith in the island by saying to Ana Lucia "It's not my hatch," C'mon! Of course it's his hatch, that hatch has had Locke written all over it since him and Boone found it in "All the Best Cowboys Have Daddy Issues." He's in my opinion losing his faith in the island and getting found. Locke seems to be dropping the Numbers, and moving onb to his new obsession... The Map.

Eko is building a church that finally ends all other speculation; although, I think someone should build a watchtower, because it would really benefit everyone to see who or what else is out there. And I have another question... why did Eko keep putting off telling Charlie what he was building? I don't know, but it's something I picked up on.

As always the writers leave us with a suprise in the last 30 seconds of the show, that will have us on the edge of our seats for the next two weeks... Here's Michael! Well finally one of the two return, and it looks like Michael knows more about The Others... "They're barely armed," the quote that was heard in the preview for next episode probabally got some ideas in Jack's head... I still think that they are plenty armed, and that they know much more about them then Michael may think, all he cares about is getting Walt back, and who can blame him... it's his kid.

Great PodCast guys, I listen to it every week, you're doing a great job.

-Stay LOST

David

I really liked this episode, 2 things stood out especially:

- Rose's flashback to Locke at the airport was really great to see!

- A return to the Locke that was my fav. character of season 1, plus him finally getting outside and distancing himself from the button.

Thoughts of Michael: As someone touched upon earlier, I reckon that Zeke & co. have said that if he can return Not-Henry Gale to them, then he gets Walt back (they won't give Walt back). I also think that Michael won't tell the other losties about this and try to take Not-Henry Gale at night or something. Why? Cos' he's desperate.

Only 2 weeks & 6 days to go...

Earl

First off dudes, THANK YOU for the last posdcast......It was MUCH IMPROVED without all the MAP shit and stuff. It made a HUGE difference and I was able to listen to the whole thing this time while I was taking a dump. Also, I think that Libby is really in love with Kate, and is using Hurley to get at her. Locke really has hair, but is wearing a skin head wig that he bought from the back of Walt's comic book. Walt is really the man, and Not Henry is really Sonny Bono, who didn't really die on that tree, but created this whole island to escape from the grief he faced on earth all the time. Where do these people take dumps anyway? And what do they wipe with? I'm thinking that those boulders that Bernard used weren't really boulders, but hardened fecal matter that they are saving up to make one bif mega bomb for the the show's finale one day. Hurley might eat some of those feces if he gets back on one of his binges. It smells like sharp cheese, so the taste probably isn't much difference. It might have an odd consistency though. There could be some dung that is crunchy (dried), some that is soft and moist to taste (fresh) and some that is like rock candy (really dried, almost petrified). It could also be used as a facial masque. I bet that is how Kate and Claire keep their skin so smooth. But I really want to know what others think they use to wipe their asses? Comments? They would have to be very careful using island leaves because they could be poisonous and give them a horrible (even deadly) anal bleeding rash.......Maybe they don't wipe at all. That makes more sense, as the dried up dung left over would make crunchy cereal (almost like a Grape Nuts kinda thing). Oh well, I'd be interested in what others theories about this are. I am surprised this has not been discussed on the Podcast. This country has too much of a stigma in talking about fecal-related matters. Open up and be real! Stop censoring the Podcast and talk about everything. God Bless.

sean

Hey guys-

Love the podcast first off...second, something I found interesting regarding timeline.

We know the plane that crashed came from Australia bound for LA. The Rose flashback shows she and Locke both in australia at the airport at the same time. However she had short hair at that point, and on the island she's got long hair. Curious what your thoughts are about that. I dont see her hair growing that fast in a month or two (unless it's part of the healing of the island). But at the same time, it would have to be a huge coincidence(not that there aren't already plenty) to have her and locke both in australia at the same time TWICE.

Michael Sullivan

Hey guys love the podcast and i just wanted to share some thoughts on the episode,

Rose and Bernard backstory pretty solid and enjoyable. I dont know but i was kind of board. Call me an unusual 16-year-old but 50-year-olds in love arent very exciting to me. That little Locke connection was interesting at the end though.

I liked the little sexual innuendo between Jack and Kate. Is it just me or does Jack have no game what so ever. He says the most awkward and blunt things to Kate that make me just cringe. Oh and by the way i didnt see anyone catch this one. But the doll that Kate picked up, which sprung the trap, was first seen in Ep. 5 of season 1 - "White Rabbit". When Jack finds his fathers coffin there were random dolls found around it. One of these was the same doll that we saw in "SOS".

Now with next episode, I just dont buy it. I seem to follow the general consensus believing that Michael is a liar. Last time we saw him he was out of his mind. Not listening to anyone and just running around screaming. I think one of two things are going on. Either Michael cut a deal that if he brought them into a trap he could get off the island with Walt or the others made it seem like they were unarmed so Micheal would run back and tell them. This all makes sense because Jack made it clear to Zeke that he thought they were weak. If The Others were smart like we know they are they would play with Jacks head and he would walk right into it.

Alright guys keep it up,

-Mike

Raz Minder

The "Michael's a mole/forced to setup his camp" idea is a great one. Jack reiterated to our faux ami, Henry, of his “if I were an other” trap - well, maybe that foreshadows a trap here. Perfect twist.

I actually enjoyed this episode even though not much happened plot-wise until the end. Thought there were enough small scenes from all the characters that made the episode a good one. And who doesn’t LOVE a musical montage! ; )

Oh, and I find it funny that, on Lost, people don't see Rose's cancer, apparently, being healed as a significant revelation. It wasn't on the "Holy %#&#, Locke's in a wheelchair" level, but still, very interesting. Maybe it has become old hat.

riverfr0zen

Mirko: yeah, totally looks like a third eye on that smiley. incidentally, i later saw some posts on the fuselage indicating that it is a reference to 'the watchmen' graphic novel, which i haven't read and so don't know much about. i don't think it's a big clue or anything, just a nice (and somewhat chilling) thing they threw in there.

Latin Lover

Yeah, it would be nice if the Others were "barely armed" and the losties could just sit them down and get some answers out of them, but I don't buy it. When Jack and the gang met them at the "line," the leader intimated that they were "opening doors" that belonged to the Others. If the Others were familiar with Swan and knew what was inside it, it seems that they would have raided the well-stocked arsenal long ago if they were short on guns. But my question is: why are the so many guns there in the first place? Surely 2 men living there alone, solely to push a button, and with a scary "quarantine" stamp to keep them inside could have no use for so many firearms. It's all very perplexing...

KevinG

A couple of things that I thought of while watching this episode

1) notHenry's comment about to Jack about they will never give you Walt back (or something to that effect). I do no think notHenry has any clue about Walt. He doesn't know who he is. notHenry only mentioned Walt after Jack had mentioned Walt specificlly by name. If he would have said Michael, notHenry would have mentioned Michael. He is a liar in all cases. (btw what are the prodcers trying to say with the biggest liar on the show being referenced as Ghandi, Christ and Buddha).

2) The Smiley face: I noticed that too, but in a different way. If you look at the "face" the other way I (from right to left) it looks like a Skull. The arch as the top of the head, the two rock piles as eyes, the triangle rock as nose and the drag marks as teeth.

SFR

What about Jack's skill with a gun? I guess Kate didn't expect that. Maybe it was one of those things he learned while in Phuket. Or he was in Thailand just to get a Tatoo and help with the Tsunami victims?

Chris

Some thoughts on Lockes renewal of faith:

1. Locke thought the island brought him there for a purpose and healed him so he could accomplish it.

2. Locke found a position of leadership and respect he had never had back in society.

3. Locke thought he was shown the hatch to enter it and find his purpose in the hatch.

4. Locke then assumed his purpose was to push the button. But this was not fullfilling and he was cracking up a little. So when Fenry (fake Henrey) told him the button did nothing, he got emotionally distraught.

5. When Rose talked with him, it led him to remember it was the 'island' which brought him there, not the hatch. I think he realized the island wanted him to get the map not push the button.

6. So Locke feels he is the chosen one again because he is back on his path of connecting with the island, not deovting his life to a button. When he completes the map he can explore and find the answers he seeks.

Which I think shows the split personality of Locke - as long as he feels he is on his path he is unstoppable, but when he is diddling around he is a failure. A very Taoist philosophical approach.

Compare that with the line from Rose 'he does not know the difference between an errand and a fools errand' and you see Locke getting the clarification for his personal mission.

Just a thought....

Jason

hmm - good point - forgot about that mention...still, odd that they wouldn't use one of the numbers in the backstory...

Bryan

I just wanted to say that years from now, when people look back at this episode it will get it's due for how well done it was. If they do not get some kind of award for this one it will be a crime. It was beautifly written, some of the best acting I have seen so far in the show from everyone. I think if there able to put on a show with hardly any of the mythology of the island that we all crave and still have us glued to the TV, that indicates they have really provided an excellent episode.

Personally I always understood the fact that Locke might not want to leave the Island but this is the first time that I saw how the island could be a paradise and not a hell for some. That for all the awfull things that happen to some on the island it could be at least a temporary ideal. We know that this would be better than Jail for Kate better for Locke, Sun and Gin were able to concieve a child. We know all of these things yet this one episode really brought it home. Rose was going to DIE, nothing could be worse for Benard to finally find love at his age and have her die so soon. Rose has accepted it but She loves him so much that she wants to live on just for his sake, because she is needed by him. This episode really brought home the paradox of the island like no other before. This will be one of my favorites.

riverfr0zen

Chris - great thoughts. That was a nice analysis of the character there, esp. how it plays in with what Rose said.

biolite

I think it would of been a better twist if Eko was building a bamboo tank ;)

So is the island a leyline? Or a node where a bunch of leylines converge?

from wikipedia:

Ley lines refer to hypothetical alignments of a number of places of geographical interest, such as ancient monuments and megaliths.

New Age: Some writers widely regarded as pseudoscientific have claimed that the ley lines and their intersection points resonate a special psychic or magical energy. These theories often include elements such as geomancy, dowsing or UFOs. Some similar believe these points on lines have electrical or magnetic forces associated with them.

This goes with what the healer said about certian points on the Earth having energy. Maybe the leylines of the island were the right energy to heal Rose, Locke, Jin, etc.

Perhaps Dharma is working at manipulating these leylines (electromagnetic study?). This could be a reason that all the losties were drawn to the island. If they all share the same energies, that could explain why they have all crossed paths before. The numbers could be the mathmatical code, or interpretation of the specific energy.

Just some thoughts, here's the link to the Wiki page

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leyline

David

I'm liking that theory biolite :)

On a side note, is there a promo clip for episode 20 yet? I haven't seen it on any of the usual sites... (I live in the UK, and the episode I 'aquired' had no promo after it)

Thanks!

mark b

Personally other than the revelations that Rose was dying and had seen Locke in a wheelchair (I suspected someone would have seen him -- sorry but people in wheelchairs are noticed at airports as they get wheeled onto the plane right past everyone), it told us nothing. Nothing happened worth a damn until Micheal stumbled out of the jungle -- bizarely enough to the exact spot where Jack and Kate were sitting and just in time to stop them doing anything they may regret in the morning.

Even the Rose is cured deal is now old hat and has been done twice before on the show, three times if you say that the island cured Charlie of his addiction. The only thing the episode did for me was confirm that more of the Losties are better off on the island than they would have been in the real world. So who's next for the "island makes them better" routine ?

Yes the acting was good (Bernard especially) but this was, in short, a filler/set-up episode for later. What needed to be said could have been said in 10 - 15 mins.

Sorry just my opinion -- and it's probably wrong, usually is, just ask my wife.

James Wicks

Hi Guys,

Great Podcast listen every week and get a bit twitchy when there isn't one to download... BUT the white text on black website really screws with my eyes. And I rarely read the comments cos it's actually painful. Anyway...

Another great episode and laughed out loud at Berhard's line to Eko :)

James

Matt Jones

I don't think Mike will intentionally betray the Losties. I just think he is being used by the Others. He's bait, not a traitor.

David

Matt, Do you mean bait as in, Michael is made to believe that the others are weak/unarmed, so therefore baits the losties to try and take them on?

Kathy aka Fangirl

I can't remember who on the last podcast said they thought that the real Henry Gale and Rose might be related, but her car being stuck in the snow sure looked a lot like Minnesota weather to me.

Also, we pretty much know everything we need to know about Bernard. Rose still has some mysteries like what she had exactly. I have a feeling Bernard is not long for this world based on his backstory being all neatly wrapped up.

Experiment 626

In regard to the idea that Michael is being used, unwittingly or not, to set up the other survivors, what if the "barely armed" group is the suspected SECOND group of Others -- those who wander around barefoot in the jungle? If they are somehow opposing the first group of Others, it could be that the first group wants to pit the Lostaways against the second group -- in effect, to set them up to do their dirty work for them. Remember that "Zeke" told Jack that Michael wouldn't find them -- maybe he found the other Others, and maybe he THINKS they're part of the same group ...

Courtney

Experiment 626:
I definately agree. If Micheal is not being manipulated by the "Zeke others" then I think that there's a real possibility that he found the barefoot others instead. Those are really the only others that he's actually seen ON the island, so it's likely he has no idea that there are potenitally two different groups. It also makes sense that he'd go back and search the part of the island where he saw the barefoot others the first time. However, If he's really talking about the "Zeke others" then there's definately something up- either he's been decieved or is being manipulated... guess we have to wait and see!

Dark Hurley

The preview really made it look like Ana Lucia's the one that's going to die by Henry's hand.

I think they may switch it up though, and it may be Sayid. Or perhaps Bernard, and that's why we got tonight's episode in order to build up sympathy for the character.

Also - if the island has the power to heal wounds quickly (as Rose implied to Locke), what does happen to the dead who are being buried? Creepy.

Andy Scott

Lock was writing the map on a poem...

"SUR LES DÉBUTS DE MESDEMOISELLES RACHEL ET PAULINE GARCIA

Ainsi donc, quoi qu'on dise, elle ne tarit pas,
La source immortelle et féconde
Que le coursier divin fit jaillir sous ses pas;

Discourons sur les arts, faisons les connaisseurs;

1839."

Does discussion of the promo constitute spoilers? if so:

****************SPOILERS*****************

it sounds like henry says, "you're the killer Ana-Lucia" does he mean now (as in about to shoot henry), or has Henry (as part of Dharma) been monitoring her, and is he referring to Ana-Lucia killing that guy that shot her partner (at least I think that's what happened)?

My theory, henry gale overpowers Ana-Lucia, then turns the gun on himself, therefore the Losties lose their chance for an exchange, and Henry isn't sent back to "Him".

Dark Hurley

I forget - in what context did Henry refer to "Him"?

Andy Scott

Lorenzaccio... a play by Alfred de Musset (the writer of Locke's poem), was translated by John Fowles (writer of The Magus, very Lost-esque)

"A gripping tale of political intrigue, moral dilemmas and individual heroism. De Musset centers the play on the complex character of Lorenzo de Medici, friend and cousin to the notorious Alexander de Medici, Duke of Florence. At the price of his moral and physical integrity, Lorenzo allies himself to the duke in order to kill him, hoping to liberate Florence from the duke’s tyrannical rule."

Hmm... Magnus and Alvar Hanso?

Magus from Magnus.... just my 2 cents, I'm sure they'll be yapping on the forums elsewhere.

David

"If I told you about them you have no idea what he'll do"

"He'll kill me"

Dennis

Does anyone have a screen cap of the wall of letters in that healers ofiice/waiting room. I mean were watching lost hear. I'm sure theres something important on that wall, we just need to find it. thanks.

jackson

I thought that this episode was very boring, and the commercials every ten minutes didn't help to enhance the show. But, as always, the last few seconds of the episode were the best.

Scott

yeah... y'all should go for the message board... give some organization to our thoughts... this things on fire!!

my thought: cute story for rose & bernard... i dig that guy. what made the show worth it for me... that shot of creepy, smiling "not-henry" - that's all I needed.

SPOILER TALK: thinking on who might die in this season... the producers have mentioned that they die when their "story" is done. I think it might be getting time to be done with Locke... he's got nothing left with the island and last night's episode only made that clear. It's not "his" button anymore and he's whining to henry. While people like Boone & Shannon may have beaten their character flaws... I think Locke is done with his... and he LOST!!!

David

I don't think Locke will die this season, there's too much backstory left, plus there's the whole map "?" thing to be discovered. IMO now that Locke has 'left' the button, there's much more for him to do.

Matt Jones

David,

Matt, Do you mean bait as in, Michael is made to believe that the others are weak/unarmed, so therefore baits the losties to try and take them on?

That's what I'm thinking. They let him go to lure the Losties in. But, I also like the idea that Michael ran into a different group of Others.

Anna might be next on the death list. I remember reading a while back that Michelle Rodriguez is kind of a pain in the ass on the set and she became even less popular after her DUI. Plus, since she was on probation in the first place, whether the producers like her or not, they may lose her when she becomes a guest of the state. And the preview suggests that Not Henry gets the better of her.

Kathy aka Fangirl,

Nice catch on the snow thing. I think Rose said that she had been driving on snow her entire life. So even if her and Bernard weren't in Minnesota (I assumed New York due to Niagara falls) it at least suggests that she could be from there thus connecting her to Real Henry. It also blows a hole in Chris Rock's theory that the only black people in Minnesota are Prince and Kirby Pucket.

goat

this episode was kind of a disappointment, but at least Michael's back in the picture. The big black rock where jack and kate went for the prisoner exchange was a bit conspicuous, is that something that should be read into? if so, my speculation is that it could be one of the islands' 'eyes' -maybe?
the fact that the miracle healer mentioned geological powers, etc. is another point of proof for theories surrounding what's inside the swan hatch / behind the cemented wall.
I was kind of hoping there would be more of a connection between rose and locke - perhaps a meeting at the miracle healers instead of just at the airport...

I do believe Michael was taken prisoner by the others and released to jack and kate, not just stumbled upon them, for the exchange of henry gale. now, what information michael will have about the others and what he will do to get walt back with help from the losties will provide for some good tv.

Clockworkjones

The rocks in which people are seeing a smiley (frowny?) face made me think of the computer in the hatch. Looked like more like >:) to me. Which is pretty close to what is displayed on the computer monitor in the hatch. But then again the results of my Rorschach tests are pretty funky.

Joe Green

I highly doubt that Michael ran into a different group of others. First of all I only think there's one group, but more importantly Michael has seen Zeke before. He's no idiot.

Courtney

Andy Scott:
Thanks for posting the poem. Do you by chance have an English translation or a summary of what the poem is about?

goat:
good tie in on the healer's comments and what's behind the cement wall- I definately think that could be where the "healing energy" is centered. of course, what's behind the wall could also be the results of what happens when you try to harness that energy (and it went wrong), or it could be totally unrelated- but who knows. I still think there's a connection there somewhere.

eve_phoenix

Rubber chicken? Try a cement chicken! Locke is driving me crazy! Still, he's my favorite and if Locke goes, I'll be heartbroken - unless they do it well. My first love is the story. Tell me a good story and I'll forgive a lot!

My six year old son (who has a lot of great insights despite never having seen a whole episode) thinks Walt is being raised by the Others to be their slave (to do something for them anyway.) He thinks Mr. Eko is the greatest thing since sliced bread and should build everybody a house. Um, he also told me he has microchips in his head that were made in New York that make him smart and he can feel the computer working in his head. Damon, Carlton - I fould your new head writer!!!

majik

I think you guys are reading too much into things...for instance Michael collapsing in front of Jake and Kate. I think he might have possibly been running (for his life, from the others, etc.) for a long time and was very tired, but refused give up running. Once he saw Jack and Kate he was in safe hands and didn't have to keep running and thus simply collapsed due to exhaustion. This is how I initially took it.

biolite

YEah, the others are a pretty skilled set of people. Ethan was very strong, agile and a good fighter. They all seem to be able to sneak around the jungle pretty well. We've seen tbe barefoot crew walking soundlessly through brush, and Jack's angry hunting party became surrounded fairly easily. It seems unlikly to me that Michael would of been able to spy on the others considering how the seem to be on top of the island activities. Don't forget that they didn't really seem to care that Michael was running off into the island. AND we have NO idea who Michael was really talking to on the computer.

Seems very possible that they may of let Michael spy on them, but show him enough information to lure more losties away from camp. Judging on how well the others seem to be at manipulating people my guess is that they have been playing Michael from the start, using him towards some end game of their own.

Challabuck

Eko's church better be a front for an armory. I like the idea of Eko going all Ezekial Sam Jackson on the Others, but if all he's going to do is build pews and pray for his own (and Charlie's) sins, then boo, Lost. Boo.

arlowho

So at first I thought the island was contributing to a certain level of delusion for everyone--Rousseau, Charlie, Locke, Michael, Hurls, Sawyer and Kate to some extent, and that this delusion was the disease the vials partially guarded against. Then with this week's episode and how the island is curing ailments and especially Rose's strong reaction to being rescued, I can imagine over the years, say when the show is wrapping for good, that the losties will be so adamant/crazy/delusional about staying that they will react to anyone new crashing on THEIR island as a threat.

Bill Hess

When Rose confides in Locke that she thinks he'll heal faster because of the island, I had my doubts. When Locke and Rose woke up from the crash, they were healed. It could be that somehow in their arrival to the island they became healed and the island itself has no special healing abilities for its occupants. Otherwise, what's taking so long for Henry and Locke's wounds to heal? Does anyone know of any quick healing examples on the island? Also, what is healable by the island and what is not (Boone didn't survive his second plane crash)?

Here's another thought on the feel-good montage at the end: are we to believe those shown were also healed by the island? Maybe that's why Hurley and Libby are not crazy anymore (assuming Dave was an island created event and not in his head)? Is that why the baby Aaron got over its sickness?

Also, we view Jin's reaction of joy with the pregnancy and think maybe he was fixed too.. but Sun has a disconnected look on her face as if we shouldn't count on that to be true.

Just my thoughts.

Scott

Bill: i'm not sure it's an all or nothing situation.. like the good doctor isaac said, there are "special places" that align with your "aura" or whatever... and australia wasn't roses... apparently the Island was. That doesn't necessarily mean it will will heal all cuts, scrapes, relationships, etc. After all "The Sickness" was a big part of the Island in the first place

ursinha

jack: yeah, i think he's had a bit of a crazy past. remember when he played sawyer at poker? and now the shooting expertise. maybe he broke down after his marriage ended?

island: maybe windmere and dharma want to figure out the healing properties of the island and that's why the losties and others are there.

michael: he's been let go. they don't really care about him or they would have taken him. i think the others maybe luring the losties to them so they can do something with the hatch...maybe not-hale was planted there on purpose to help the others?

man man

has anyone seen this?

http://www.oceanicworldair.com/wilson9mz2.gif

meh. kinda neat... yo, how cool was that 'dark territory' let's see some more of that

Jake D

I wouldn't mind going into Ana-Lucia's dark territory.

Teh Major

ok...so there are the obvious plot lines to follow in this last episode. Those being Locke and Rose and Jack and Kate. I wanted to point out that there WERE numbers in this episode. In the very beginng of the show, some of the food packaging was shown and it had a weird sequence of letters and numbers. Could be nothing or could be yet another sequence we may see in the future. Screen cap anyone?
Also, I couldn't get past at how Rose was belittling Bernard. I know that some of her motivation was to keep her cancer at bay, but she was almost saying that he wasn't playing his certain role and that he should just be content, like people on the island have a slot to fill and he was going outside of his. Not to mention the weird look the psychic guy gave Rose when he scanned her head. And when Locke and Rose sat down together I truly thought that they were gonna say that THEY were others! Remeber all the weird looks and stuff that Locke has givin in the past? Nevertheless, I am kind of in the school of thought that the Losties were planted on the island and have certain roles to play, even if they are not aware of it.
And last thought, does that FAA memo say 2004 or 2024?...it hard to tell...STAY LOST...

Cihan

A friggin church? BORING. Yes lets hope its a front for an armory!

Good ep, nothing amazing but good nonetheless. NotHenry is a great character, love his evil smiles.

And Sun not smiling should be another metaphorical brick in the conceptual wall that protects the "she's a horrible evil cheater" opinion.

Kathy aka Fangirl

I realized now why Ekko is building the church. So if the others ever decide to attack again, everyone can run into the church and scream "SANCTUARY!"

Caligula

Hi,
I listened to almost all lostcasts and didn't hear it before but forgive me if I'm wrong... The last screenshots of the previous Dave episode (Libby in the mental hospital) made me think. What if it all is kind of a collective dream, a collective mindgame, an experimented where people are 'placed' in a subconscious or artificial reality. Just like the Matrix movie. It would explain a lot of things (the physical 'miracles', the strange monsters, the connectivity between them, the crash they all survived, etc). Why? Don't know yet: It would let the researchers allow conduct experiments in a way people don't get hurt/die; it would create a lab where in an ethical kind of way psycholgical things can be tested (socail psychology, leadership, altruism, addictiveness, etc...).
So, I think it is perhaps a Matrix kind of theory...

BG AKA ChuckNorris

I saw this guy on the island when roses husband is telling them his plan. Well long story short he looks like the dude who is Isiah or what ever his name was.

Jason

A twist on the island healing idea -- what if the memories were all implanted in the castaways beforehand? They THINK they had these diseases and believe the island healed them, but they never actually had these problems to begin with. The implanted memories also would explain why they keep popping up in each other's flashbacks...

And my number theory from last year I never put up on here...

What if the numbers stand for letters somehow? Now, this doesn't 100% work, BUT:

4 = D
8 = H
15 =O
16 = P

Now, 23 = w, which is nothing, BUT the sum of 2 and 3 is 5. 5 = E

By just a little bit of squishing then, you get the word HOPE in the middle of the numbers - which, if you'll remember, is EXACTLY what Locke said he believed was in the hatch when Jack asked him at the end of last year.

How the 4 (D - Desmond?) and 42 (meaning of life?) fit in, I'm not quite sure...

Matthew

I believe Michael was escorted back to the "line" clearing (note the huffs and puffs as if he were being dragged or prodded along just before he stumbled into the clearing), indicating to Jack that "here's your trade" and that Jack can keep him and that little man notHenry, too.

The Others aren't going to give up Walt without a fight.

Questions: Weren't other fuselage (original 48-days) Lost folks captured in the first season? If so, why is Walt the main focus of Jack's trade desires? Wouldn't Ana Lucia and other tailies be interested in trading for the numerous tailie children? Or does this complicate the narrative and Walt simply represents the "children" in general?

The producers did a pretty good job recreating a New York winter scene on a Hawaii studio backlot. That must have taken a lot of shaved ice from the local Rainbow Snow and Snow Shacks...they did need a little "James Cameron" (i.e. Titanic) cold breath special effects to truly sell the scene, though.

Matthew

The Aussie faith healer makes the point of saying to Rose that not all "healing hot spots" provide healing properties for all people. The same must be true of the island. Hence, Shannon's asthma, Aaron's rash and fever, Boone's failure to recover from his injuries, etc.

It did not seem to be faith-based, but peculier to that individual's constitution or injury/condition.

So who else is "fragile" on the island? Charlie's addiction persists (active or not), Sawyer's eyesight is still bad, Hurley's psychosis/eating disorder, and Jack's fear of commitment issues.

Burning question: Now that Bernard and Rose are committed to the island, will Bernard construct a dentist office across from Mr. Eko's church? Charlie could supply the anesthetic.

Kevin

I agree with Clockworkjones.... Bernard's incomplete S.O.S. rocks look just like the prompt on the computer screen in the hatch.

>:(

Not sure what it means, but there's got to be something significant about that.

Also, the rescue sign seemed like a great idea to me. It makes no sense that no one was interested in helping. Bernard seems like the only sensible person left on the island at this point...sure, he'll be the next to go.

philagb

I don't believe a rescue sign would be any help - planes don't fly over (if they do, they apparently crash - I think because of the magnetism of the island, which can be contained in the swan hatch with the blast doors in order for the food drop planes to make deliveries, possibly.. sorry for the run-on sentence) according to henry "god can't see this island any better than the rest of the world can" - perhaps a nod to the "island as purgatory" or "island as dream" theories, or it's somehow cloaked / made invisible from outsiders.

Shonda

Ya'll need forums. I need the next Podcast. I dunno what's worse, waiting for Wednesday or waiting for podcast day.

Shonda

God can't see the island...

Ya'll remember the images in the comic book Walt had before Daddy Dearest threw it into the fire? The polar bear was just one. There was also some sort humanoid creature being experimented on. Also, one of the comic book panels looked to me an island under a giant dome.

Yeah, the island is invisible.

omid

Hi, can somebody please explain the official lost Diary. It says 'Henry Gale', the fake one, is the brother of one the cast Aways. Can anyone explain this please. If this is true it means that one our castaways is actualy an other.

Shonda

Omid:

Most people think the writer of the diary is referring to the real Henry, who was African American, and who is also very much dead. Many people don't consider the diary to be a a for-certain source of story information.

Aves

Just a wild theory.

Maybe Rose is related to the others so she is the 'mole'. They crashed her plane to bring her here and heal her. This also ties in with the diary where she thought 'her brother' is kepted. Also, during season 1, she 'knows' that bernard is alive probably cause she's communicating with the others?

Smoke Monster

Locke has decided to stop with the entering of the numbers.
As walt(backwards talking walt "PRESS the button, NO buttons bad")seemed to have knowledge of the numbers and pressing the button, then perhaps Michael too will be informed of its purpose. Michael is on his way back with kate and jack, knowing the importance of the button and something bad will happen if the numbers are not entered. i'm guessing that will be the great climax of the next episode. Most people seem to believe that nothing will happen but the fact is the button does hold significance or walt would not have freakishly projected himself to shannon telling her about it. Could it have something to do with the wispers, havent heard from them in a while.. any thoughts??

Also do u think the "Bad Twin" book featured on Lost and released may 2 holds any significance to Zeke, its a bit corny but maybe there is two of them, the timings right and would explain the beard.

Great show guys.. and girl??

smokem

ok, i got a theory... some people have said that the libby we saw in the kookoo house was acctually libby's twin, but we heard the nurse call her libby so that kinda bunked that theory.... BUT, what if the kookoo libby is the real libby, and the island libby is her dharma plant twin using her name... now with that said i also kind of think that island libby is writing the lost diary and fake henry is her brother. because rose writing it doesnt make sense, if she thought they were holding her brother in the hatch, she would confront them about it, but if dharma plant libby knew that it was FAKE henry they were holding she couldnt confront them, cause her cover would be blown, so she has to just sit tight and release her frustrations out in her diary....................... Anyway, thats my two cents, im posting this kind of late so ill re-post it next week since there is a repeat and you guys will more than likely do a theory cast... love the casts keep it up guys

Scott

I think I remember on the official podcasts them saying for sure that the island is not a dream - or that all of this is not in their subconscious, etc. just to debunk some of the "dream state" theories that are on here...

Kathy aka Fangirl

The problem with listening to the writer's though is they did a whole interview prior to the season finale last year saying how much Arnz was going to play a part in season 2 and how we were going to get his backstory just so it would be more shocking when they blew him up. So, it's hard to believe them at times.

Cihan

Shonda, I've read Walt's comic, it was on the Net a few weeks back but I cant find the link anymore. Personally I thought it was kinda lame, bordering on a Watchmen rip-off.

I'm sure the story of Lost will contain elements from many different sources like the Matrix trilogy, and Watchmen will be quite a strong reference indeed.

I have about 4 theories on this show (fan requirement), but my very first theory from when I saw the first episode was that there was an alien attack on earth and the whole planet is basically destroyed now except for that island, of course this theory has many holes in it, but I think that if they kept the jist of it: that the world has been changed in some massive Watchmen-eqsue way that the survivors on the island have no idea about, then it would be really cool.

Nasher

Anyone notice the total lack of 'the numbers' in the back story? They werent in the number plates, the amount of money paid for the consultation or the number of months before Bernard proposed!

Shonda

Oooh I didn't know it was a real comic book. Thanks for that info. You can read the whole thing here:

http://www.lostlinks.net/comic/comic1.htm

Now, as for the panel that I thought was a dome covering a land mass... it's really just a space ship. It can be seen here, on page 36:

http://www.lostlinks.net/comic/comic36.htm

So, there goes my mini-theory that the island is invisible as evidenced by the comic book panel. I was wrong! (I know, shocking, but true.)

The comic book itself seems like it is not a bad read. Maybe I'll read it during the break. :(

Vera

Even though I don't now how someone found out the writing on the wall around the map is writen by a left-handed person, I would like to comment that anyone could have writen it, even if this person is aming a gun with his right hand. I myself do everything with my right hand, apart from writing (I know how inneficiant this is)

Grendal

Every time you push the button a clown dies. Not a bad thing.(consider 108 minutes we are closer to a world no longer terrorized by clowns)

Ryan

Cool the cover of that was done by Dave Johnson, and the flashback was drawn by Bart Sears.

Two of my favorites back when I had time to read comics.
