We're back! It's been several weeks and we got a new episode of LOST, Two for the Road. In this podcast, we talk about general reactions to this latest episode of LOST, Ana Lucia's backstory including her connection to Jack's dad, her confrontation with Fenry Gale, her hookup with Sawyer and her subsequent shooting. But it doesn't end there... we've got plenty about Libby and speculation about Michael's motives, as well as some great discussion about if there are 2 groups of "others", or just one?
As always, we have a ton of LOST links and LOST spoilers, but we also break ground on a new segment about the "LOST Experience" that launched this week.

I think it's really strange that the press release on tvshowsondvd.com refers to the Others as "superhuman." Doesn't anyone affiliated with the show approve these things before they are put out there? I mean, the statement could be true but it hasn't been revealed yet so it shouldn't be apart of any official release. /rant

1] I think Ana Lucia gets too much flak for sleeping with Sawyer, you should remember there WAS some kind of sexual tension between the two when they were trekking back to the lostaway's camp. Alot of character actions have been setup in previous episodes.
2] *high five's John on his pro internet freedom argument thing*

Dr. Christian needing AL as a bodyguard to fend off Lindsey seems a little too hokey to me. Maybe he thought he could get some, but I doubt it. I just started watching the episode again and something occured to me. AL's mother says to her, "[If] you don't want my help you're gonna have to get it from somewhere else." Then when AL's drinkin' it up with Christian at the LAX bar he says, "You do need help, right?" Coincidence? It just seems like he might have been recruiting AL to go to Sydney so she could be on Oceanic Flight 815 (and have a chance to redeem herself on The Island) when she finally realized she needed her mommy.

I'm typing this as y'all are going over the Lost Experience stuff (not my cup of tea) - just wanted to know whether something is going on w/ your recording equipment or someone is playing with their lighter (or chain-smoking something fierce) throughout the whole show. Weird clicking noise. Kinda distracting.
Good show thus far.

I'm gonna take a stab in the dark on this one and say that in the next episode, when Jack and Co. return to the hatch, Henry AND Libby will be missing.
I just think Libby's immediate death would be pretty non-sequential in the grand scheme of things. Also, it wastes a potential backstory.
Either she will somehow survive, though fall into an unconsciousness state, but eventually reveal the truth with her final breaths (how cliché, I know). Or, well, I don’t know… my thinking with the first ‘stab in the dark’ guess is that maybe she does have involvement with Dharma… but I never really bought into that idea.
Oh right, then there’s the whole how the hell would pillows or blankets lessen the force of or redirect bullets. Even Kevlar reinforced Dharma throw cushions have their limitations. But the ‘blood’ you guys mentioned (and I thought I saw this as well) is easily explainable – she had a big ketchup container underneath the Kevlar pillow…
Nevermind, she’s dead.

hey guys have you seen spoilerfix lately? they had all those spoilers listed since 4/18
*Spoiler alert* SPOILERS SERIOUSLY !!!
04/28 - After discovering something odd just offshore, Jack and Sayid come up with a plan to confront "The Others" and hopefully get Walt back. Meanwhile, Eko and Locke come to blows as Locke makes a potentially cataclysmic decision regarding the "button" and the hatch. Source: ABC
04/19 - The two-hour finale is basically one big Desmond flashback. Source: Ask Ausiello @ TV Guide
04/18 - [Quite spoilery, highlight at your own risk... In flashback that is set in 2000 in L.A., Libby buys Desmond coffee and offers him her boat. Charlie and Eko enter the hatch to get dynamite. Rose and Locke have a chat. Later in the episode, we see Desmond lying on the beach shore, waking up, being carried to the hatch, and Desmond and Kelvin walking through the jungle. While in prison (not sure if it's on island or flashback), Widmore tells Desmond off. There will be one scene of Desmond in the stadium. Dr. Candle will appear.

I looked at Libby laying on the floor numerous times and never saw blood, but the red tiles that made up the floor. She got shot on her left side under her ribs and her stomach. I would say she has one episode left...

Great podcast - but re Michelle Rodriguez: is she really gay?? Damn, I'm sure I'll hear that this was news years ago or something.
Oh well, I'd better get busy and start ripping down all those Michelle posters in my room, and change my PC wallpaper back to that shot of Libby dumping the ranch dressing all over the jungle. Maybe I'll just photoshop Hurley out first ...

I think we're being punished as viewers for being bad people. We're too greedy. First Shannon goes bye bye, now Ana-Lucia and Libby are gone too.

I just wants to tell you that I follow LOST from the Netherlands... and I wouldn't even bother watching something on the ABC site, torrent quality is excelent... and without commercials.
Looking e.g. to the comedy central website... u can just watch clips from the daily show without country issues.
with all the effort lost is doing, putting out hints on the internet and other puzzles
it is silly to wait till my tv season has caught on.
I am too curious...
good cast btw

Colin: I think Ana probably didnt want to sleep with Sawyer, just out of pride, but knew it was the biggest chance of getting the gun and essentially didnt have a problem sleeping with him to get it, considering the subtle attraction between the two in earlier episodes.
Also, I was also surprised at Rodriguez being gay, I had no idea, and reading about her exploits shocked me, lol. Its not really relevent to anything though, I hope LostCasts doesnt have a weekly gossip section, I already have to put up with my sister buying the stupid national enquirer every week, poor silly girl.

I'm no photoshop expert, but I put together this little enhancement of the tent village hatch. at first, I thought it could be the flame hatch, but after playing with the image there is a faint question mark. Honestly, though, I doubt it is the main hatch - It's probably a dharma logo we haven't seen before, and my wild guess is that it is location C4 on the blast door map (the pearl, subterrainean conduit) just a guess, here's a link to my image:

not sure why, but after listening to your spoilers, i think fenry's really kelvin. i think desmond may have assumed hed died. it would be a nice tie-in if the flashback for the finale if fenry was the one who rescued desmond. I think this only because it takes a special kind of person to lie and infiltrate repeatedly. Goodwin and Ethan told some basic lies. But Fenry has made up some pretty indepth lies of Keizer Soze proportions, withstood torture, been on a hungerstrike. I guess Kelvin could really be anyone (Fenry, Goodwin, even Zeke or someone we haven't seen), but Fenry seems to be really good at it, so he's the logicial guess for me. And it is all speculation...

Hey, just wanted to pop in and post something cool I found with the numbers. Now, I will probably post this again on someother site, but for right now, you are the only people who know this secret I just unlocked. Okay, here it goes:
If you rearrange the numbers in such and way and turn it into an equation you get this:
4+8+(1x5)+16+2+(2-3)+(4x2) = 42
Now, I know what you are thinking. You can do this with any sequence of numbers, and you will eventually find a way to get the last number in the equation, however there is more to this equation then think. If you assign numbers to the letters of the alphabet, a=1, b=2, etc, you get something cool with this equation.
D=4
H=8
A=1 (the beggining of 15)
R=16+2 (2 being the beginning of 23)
M=8+(1x5)
A= The difference between 2 and 3(or 2-3, assuming you count negatives.
Now this only leaves one number not figured into the equation. 42, however 42 is a very special number. 4x2=8, the second number in the sequence. Also, 42x2=84 the first two numbers backwards. Also, as countless others(haha, pun) have pointed out, the sequence has a multiple factor in it. 4x2=8. 8x2=16. 16x2=32(that number backwards is 23 incase you are stupid). Now, I know a lot of what I am saying is probably nothing like they intended, and numbers are really trick things. You can draw almost anything for them, but it is also my guess J.J. and Damon(sp?) were really careful in what numbers they picked, and I'm guessing the numbers do have a meaning in them that those two made. Anyway, that's my two cents.
Happenstance, perhaps. coincidence, perhaps not.
P.S. Don't know if this has been mentioned as a theory yet, but is it possible the numbers are the valenzetti equation. Or did I miss some proof it can't be?
Posted by: Pirate God | May 07, 2006 at 01:50 PM
the other thing is that "The Others" cannot be "good" people, in the moral sense of the world. Someone killed the real Henry Gale. We saw Goodwin snap Nathan's neck. And Ethan killed Scott/Steve and left Charlie hanging to die.

hey guys, me again.
Ok, I was just thinking of Fenry, and something just poped into my head as I heard you guys talking about the two groups of others. Well, I am a firm believer of the two groups theory, but I thought of something to disprove it. So, in a season 1 final episode, we all know that Walt was taken, which by most peoples standards is a bad thing, therefor making ther person/people that did it bad. Now, if Henry knows about Walt, then he must be w/ those others. If he is not, then how could he know about them having Walt and how special he is because he knew that the others would never give up Walt. And if he is w/ those others that took Walt, then he is a BAD PERSON because he probably helped in some way. Now, he keeps calling himself a goood person, and said that Ana killed two of the good people that were "leaving you alone." So, Henry might be relitivly good, but could still be part of the bad others, and if he is saying that he is part of the good others, well, how could they know about Walt. So I think that there might be only one group of others, and Henry may be RELITIVILY good compaired to the rest of them.
Stay LOST,

Hey-
On Libby and the blankets. I've watched it over and over, and there is no blood around her. There is water dripping behind her, and she's on some red tiles, but no blood. Also, the shots clearly hit the center of the blanket, and they show that close up, but she was carrying those blankets very strangly- hugged to her chest, flat, like she was carrying something BEHIND them.
I'm going to predict that we find out she was taking some sort of present to Hurley, or was stealing something from the hatch, and so had wrapped the blankets around something large, flat and rather tougher than cloth, and it slowed the bullets enough for her to survive, if only for a little while. I mean... anyone who watches the Sopranos knows that a phone book will stop a bullet even at point blank range, at least in TV world.

Sorry, I'm going to be one of those people who double posts- I just was thinking about the whole "why didn't they take anyone from the fuselage but they took tailies?" Thing. First- it took Goodwin two weeks to make a list (we only hear of the list when thye take the kids and Ana Lucia kills that Other, not the first night when they take some men.) Ethan was not with the fuselage people for longer than a few days, that know of, and there were more of them.
Second- we know that tailies were taken the first night- were these bad people to be killed? Where they, like Goodwin said, just trying to weaken the group by attacking the largest and strongest? I don't know, but we didn't see the fuselage people get taken that first night. They were more scattered than the tailies, so maybe we just didn't see them get taken. Or- since we did see the "security system" in full force that night- so maybe it attacked the others who were going to slim down the fuselagers, and so they had to wait to send Ethan in.

Hey guys - just heard the podcast - I look forward to the ones that go overtime! It makes the over-crowded train-ride to work so much better... an in FULL SUPPORT of you guys giving tips on how non-US residents might download lost episodes legally, as I find mine through other means.
Anyhows - regarding your MI:3 comments, and your search for MI:3 connections to Lost, I believe I found a few. Firstly, the building Ethan Hunt rescues agent Lindsay Farris from looks very similar to the battersea power station seen in Lost ep 2x12 "Fire +Water". When I saw the four smoke stacks reflected in the puddle Ethan runs through I thought of that strait away. Could it be a Widmore building? Who knows...
Secondly: Director Brassell (Lawrence Fishburn) reveals Owen Davian moved alot of bioweapons all over the world, include a TOXIN 5 to Korea - might we see TOXIN 5 come up in Lost at some point, and will it be connected with Sun's father?
Thirdly: Owen Davian seems to be a name of Slavic (or at least Northern European Origin) much like Hanso. Could the help from the "Hanso Foundation" actually have been meant to show that Alvar was the inspiration for the Davian character?
Along with those, there are the obvious nods to Lost: Ethan's alias at one point is a "H.Kelvin" and the scene where his wife rescusitates him is pretty much just like when Jack revives Charlie in Season 1.
Anyway - those are the clues I thought worth sharing.
Stay Lost, and Namaste!

Well, I have to download the episodes via Bittorrent because a) there is no way to get the undubbed, original version of (any) TV episodes here in Germany, they are all dubbed into German and I really hate that -- the only way to get your hands on the original, undubbed versions is to buy the DVD, which usually arrives after a season aired in Germany, b) the second season will start in september or october (!) over here and c) I love to participate in digging into the episodes, discussing about latest discoveries and so on...you can't do that with the massive delay between the US and the German airings. I'm buying the DVDs as soon as they come out, but I still have to download the latest episodes because there is no other way to get them.

Hey guys, here is my theory, The island is a medical "hospital". Instead of treating people while they are awake, they treat them while they are in a "dream" state. On the same order of the Matrix, a collective subconscious. All the people on the island have a problem one way or another, the "island" helps them and cures them, they may not realize it while they are "dreaming". When they are cured they die "wake up,leave the hospital". The other people on the island are lead to believe they died for closure. I would love to see in the series finally, the remaining castaways waking up in their own hospital rooms, walking out into the hallway and recognizing each other. btw i know I cant spell. Thanks

Posted by: josh | May 08, 2006 at 05:52 PM
once again a great show. my feelings about the story with Jack's father having a daughter is that I think he isn't really dead. That might sound crazy but there is really no other way to address that story with his daughter more unless we see it from his perspective. Claire could be his daughter but I think that would be pushing it. The daughter could also be from Jack's former wife but I doubt that. I think we can expect Christian Shepard to be popping up on the island next season as a regular cast member or a reoccuring character. I think that would be a crazy angle on the story but would produce some good dynamics between him and Jack on the island.

About good ones and bad ones:
Maybe, as I see it, all of them are "good one" material. They all had the potential, but some of them just couldn't overcam ehat life put them through. none of them was really bad in spirit, inicially, but some of them ended up doing bad stuff for some particular reason.
Remember what fake henry says about Ana Lucia: We thouight we could change her.
So I think each one of the losties is a cnadidate

I know many people have been debating the death of Libby, and I'd just like to clear this up. Libby is NOT dead. This is not a spoiler, it's just stating the obvious. After listening to the pod cast, and Abrams' and Damon's "hint" that we cant be sure who's dead yet, its completely obvious that Libby can't be dead. I don't feel the need to justify my argument as to how she survived, because I feel this is far too obvious. I'm just calling this, so that once this wednesday confirms it, I can say "i told ya so" all i want.

Posted by: Mike Campbell | May 09, 2006 at 12:21 AM
Well done! You guys are running a great podcast. I posted my theory on The Fuselage & thought I's share it with you guys as well.
I think Libby is an 'Other' and was not immediately killed by Michael's shots (how? beats me!). My reasons/reasoning is:
1. I just think it's strange that we have not had a Libby-specific flashback, as we have had with all Losties & Tailies. If she were an Other, then of course her flashback would be a huge giveaway.
2. We know from Hurley's flashback that she was in the psych ward with him but she may have been planted there by the Others to keep a watch on Len (the numbers-reciting looney) and was there when Hurley told Len he had played the numbers. The Others then decided that they had to isolate Hurley and what better way than to bring him to the Island. It would also explain why she hasn't mentioned to Hurley that connection when (judging from the look she had when Hurley mentioned trying to remember her) she obviously knows where they met before.
3. Based on the spoiler floating around that Libby had offered Desmond her boat in an upcoming episode, that would be consistent with Libby being an Other if Desmond's presence on the Island was planned by the Others.
4. I don't mean to cross the Hurley/Libby (Libley? Hurlby?) fans out there, but that would also explain Libby's inexplicable seeking out of Hurley and getting close to him. Everything happens for a reason right?
5. We never saw her on the Oceanic plane and it's strange that she says Hurley stepped on her foot when boarding the plane. I mean, Hurley was in the mid-section of the plane whereas she ended up with the Tailies, implying that she was at the back of the plane. How could Hurley have stepped on her foot if this was the case.
6. The Others seem to know a lot about the Losties, which can only mean that they have infiltrated the Losties. Based on all the above, I just think that Libby seems to be the prime candidate.
So, I think we're not going to find out whether Libby survived the shooting or not in the upcoming episode. My guess is that Fenry has carried Libby off (possibly for some Island miraculous healing, like we've seen before). So, none of the Losties actually know that Libby had been shot & think that she's just missing. That would be why Hurley doesn't seem cut-up in the preview of the next episode we saw.
What do you all think?

I just listened the official podcast - which was mediocre as always, with near the usual dosage of crap. In fact most of it was them trying to spin their crap line about the fact that Ana-Lucia gets killed had nothing at all to do with Michelle Rodriguez's DUI. I mean: give it up already - we ain't buying any!
However, just toward the end Lindleloff made a very, very interesting comment about the veracity of the story that Michael told about his time away from the Losties.
Worth checking out if, like me, you desperate for any scraps of info. at this point.

Two things for you guys. 1. I'm in the U.S. Military overseas and it would be great to get the free ABC.com streams for Lost. I'm going to try the route you all suggested for accessing them. 2. Everyone is caught up in the Michelle R. and Cythnia W. DUI deal, but I think they got their DUIs after this episode was shot. Maybe at a post episode wrap party to say goodbye. What do you think?

Bone -
i don't think the eppisode was shot yet. Because as of last week they were filming the final one. So they must have made last weeks a few weeks ago. But a good idea. I also think we need to stop worring about the DUI and just be happy and all celebrate because....

I think that Jason McCormick (dunno how it's written) was a small character or a fake alias in blade 2.

Please don't talk about Anna again. YOu can't pronounce her name for shit. Anna LOU-SEE-A not luch-ia. its very irritating.
Posted by: Hatchling | May 09, 2006 at 11:22 AM
Quick comment... was listening to the podcast and you all mention about Pike (sp?) industries, Son's dad and all... so we know Son's dad was a bit of a mafia type with the whole beating people up and stuff... so what if The Hanso Foundation and Pike Industries had some sort of falling out or something happened between them and the reason why Son and Jin are on the island is like a kind of kidnap to get something from Pike industries... or something along those lines... it was just a thought that came to mind. The other losties have their own reasons for being there (whatever that is), but that could be Son and Jin's reason... maybe? maybe not.
Anyway, gotta go.
Love you guys as always

"Please don't talk about Anna again. YOu can't pronounce her name for shit. Anna LOU-SEE-A not luch-ia. its very irritating."
Yeah, and it's spelt "Ana" not "Anna", genius.
Did anyone else find Damon's comment about their being two sections fo Widmore? Apparently there's a UK and US brach. Could be interesting.

Oh, just a note to you, because of The News of the World's rubbish website, your link about Ana Lucia is now outdated.

I don't know if anybody here wants to hear a different podcast, but, we started one. It was partially inspired by the great job you guys do over here. We are not as professional, but hopefully the conversation is interesting. We will discuss each episode for the rest of the season.

It is obvious that henry gale is right about the others trying to kill him. Micheal's real mission was to make sure that henry dies, like when henry sait to locke.

Hey, I have a question. I'm from Vzla and I can't watch the free streaming they have at ABC, do any of you guys know how to make my IP anonymous? Thanks
Posted by: Corina | May 09, 2006 at 05:26 PM
okay maybe the others are two groups... UK vs. US???? maybe

If Michael was supposed to kill Henry, he would have just done it when Ana gave him the gun (Don't correct anyone's spelling. Karma, or Dharma, will pay you back).
Anyway, I can't believe I didn't figure this out. The computer was built in the 70's to control this magnetic reactor. It is not Y2K-ready. It can't be reprogrammed or replaced without a breach in the electromagnet. So Dharma, decided to cheap out and get some cheap labor to push the button to reset the computer's clock to 108 minutes before 00:00, 1/1/2000. Quite simple, really (if that ends up being it, I will hunt Cuse and Lindeloff down).

I just finished Bad Twin, pretty good read, but confusing ending. I have a couple spoilers and a potential error!!!
Spoiler: The Widmore twins featured in the book were born on 8/15 and 8/16...this is also the code for their home gateway. Also significant is their mention of fault lines and nodes.
Error: On page 204 the book references a change in Scottish law that occured on November 28 of 2004 (they give this date). Yet the crash, according to sources including the back of the book, says that Gary Troup was lost in September of 2004. How did the lost author include a date after his disappearance in his novel? Could they have really missed such a glaring error?
In general, the book is fun and worth the read, though apparently it's only half the story of the Widmores (Cuse mentioned there's a London branch as well). I must admit the levels of understanding sometimes boggle my mind as in: Does information shared by our fictional author in a work of fiction share truths about the corporations that are so important in the author's real world that is fictional to us? I just went cross-eyed...

1st time commenter - LOVE the podcast! Just my type of meat & potatoes of theories (girls can be geeky too!!)
Haven't listened to the most recent show b/c iTunes keeps not downloading the whole thing (I can't deal with only 23 mins!) So I'm downloading it in other places.
Episode theory:
Right before Michael shot anna there was a weird shot of the wall in the corner & there was this dark spot in the middle. A camera??
Michael then turned his back to the wall & apologized to anna (video only no audio on "camera"?) Then turned around & shot anna.
Now "Henry" said that the head guy was not forgiving & that he would kill Henry for failing. Then Henry told anna (while trying to kill her) that she was the murderer of the 2 others.
Maybe Michael's in with the others (apparently semi-against his will since he apologized) & had to kill anna according to orders of revenge to get access to Walt.
Another thought: Michael said he hadn't seen him but knew he was there. Did he sense something? More computer typing? If I was a parent I'd want something harder than that. Maybe he had a phone conversation or something?
Just my thoughts
Great show guys!!

I just went back and watched the part in Collision where Ana Lucia shoots Jason McCormick/Alder. Some discrepancy about the number of gunshots was mentioned in the podcast. She shoots him 3 times from afar, then walks up to him and puts 3 more bullets in his body, for a total 6-count. In Two for the Road, Ana's mom says that he was found an hour after the shooting "with 5 bullets in his chest." Why the discrepancy?

Hey Mark B
How can us guys in the uk see this clip?

I haven't checked the forums, but did you guys see the 1/4 page ad The Hanso Foundation took out in yesterday's LA Times (5/9/06)? It was denouncing "The Bad Twin". Maybe you guys can find a scan of it and link to it next week.

I have to say, this podcast is utter genius - i love it. You've introduced a side of Lost that simply blows my head off!
Posted by: Tim Jellyman | May 10, 2006 at 02:39 PM
The guys are right. Any one who doubts that Ana Lucia and Libby's fate had everything to do with their DUIs need only look to the title of the episode - "Two For the Road."

Haha! Good man. I'm pleased they've been debunked.

Did anyone else pick up on the reference to "Midnight Cowboy" in Two for the Road? When Sawyer bumps into the door of Jack's dad's car he yells out, "Hey, I'm walking here!" That's Ratso Rizzo's (Dustin Hoffman) line crossing the street and bumping into a car in NYC.

Well, after tonight's episode, we at least know the Darma people aren't _all_ knowing...they fell for BetaMax : )

i check out the site from tonight's the lost experience ad and got the pw: heir apparent. the only thing is, it redirects you to the bios webpage of the hanso site, but so many people are on there that i cant even load it. hopefully it'll work sometime tomorrow, but im doubtful.

From tonight's (5/10) Hanso ad on TV:
1) At the very beginning, down in the bottom left corner, it says "Sprite, Inc."
2) subLYMONal. Remember Lymon? Lemon + Lime?
3) Obey. "Obey Your Thirst".
Look, this is the first time I've played an ARG, but for god's sake. Does everything need to be branded, rebranded, blah, blah, blah.
I'm going to go drink a Sprite now.

If there was any doubt as to whether or not Libby was actually on Oceanic 815, I *think* we confirmed that she was last night based on her asking Mr.Echo if everything was all right when he was talking to the "was she dead or wasn't she?" woman.

Was the psychic father that Eko met Clair's psychic? "Raised By Another," is one of the two episodes I've missed so I don't know what the character looked like. I've only read the transcript.
I'd also like to point to the Lostcasts scoreboard and do a little T.O. endzone dance. I was among the early adopters of the Skinner Box explaination of the Swan hatch. It's a celebration Charlie Murphy!
(sorry I'm that excited about it, but I'm so rarely right)
Posted by: Matt Jones | May 11, 2006 at 09:28 AM
Perhaps it is a study in time... look at the swan, giant computer, old music, reel film. Pearl: More advanced, tape player, tv screens.
The displacement study, that may have included the Polar bear may also be a displacement in time study.
Not even God being able to see the island may be a reference to it being in another dimension where they pull things back and forth.
