aaaaaaaaarrgh

iTunes doesn't have it updated yet... Oh the horror!

Todd

yay it's up now!!!

matt beale

i'm NOT clicking that final link ;) Read it after wednesday... see if it was true!

Thanks for cast... make my Sunday Evening now :)

Raz Minder

That pretty link at the bottom is... so... tempting... must resist... urge... to click...

Only need to last 3 days... I can do it.

As always, thanks for the podcast guys.

Lien

So I read the finale spoiler. Maybe it's just me, but I'm not very impressed by it...

Conrad from Pennsylvania

I read the spoiler as well... it seems like we take several leaps forward in the storyline. How could you not be impressed by it. The poor writers on Lost can't do anything without people trying to bring them down. Why are people soooo ready to down the whole thing!!!

marilynr

Just read the spoiler at the link you guys gave and just wanted to make this comment.

(If you didn't read it...the following is not a spoiler but it could be if you think laterally)

If you recall a while ago, I believe it was Damon and Carlton (somebody correct me if I'm wrong) who said that they basically took Stephen King's "The Stand" and put it on an island.

Sounds a lot more like the truth if this is really the way the finale pans out. I don't know if all the data in the spoiler link is true, but if it is...well then there you have it.

Great podcast by the way! You guys really should have Matt Jones on more often.

Conrad from Pennsylvania

Seems that if you look at the pictures for the final episode they seem to substantiate a lot of what is written in that spoiler page.

Qwerty

I read 4 lines of the big spoiler but managed to stop myself.

jimmy

Is it just me, or did the rock with the hole in it look a lot more like the ruin of part of a building? Like a wall with a window in it?

Cihan

It would be cool if there was another comment section for just spoiler related discussion, I'm really worried I'm gonna accidentally read a spoiler in here, haha...

on the like of dj something there is a banner for verizonwireless right? In the official podcasts they mentoined something about movisodes. Which i think will be 5 minute episodes using verizonwirelless's V CAST service.

Chris Procter

It's a foiler - come on guys there isn't even enough for a normal epidsode here and there is no mention of any of the guest stars (eg Clancy Brown). Its been debunked on many of the boards eg the Fuselage - It comes from a poster on I think the ABC board who signed on with a brand new account

foiler, foiler, foiler

October 28 -
In ancient times, the Phoenician sun-god Baal of the Heavens was honored annually on or around this date. He presided over nature and fertility, and was associated with Winter rain. Sacred sun-symbolizing bonfires were lit in his honor by his worshipers in Syria. Depicted as a warrior with a horned helmet and spear, he was once worshipped as the principal god on Earth for thousands of years.
In ancient Egypt, a series of Autumn ceremonies for the goddess Isis began each year on this date. They lasted for six consecutive days.

Cihan

1] I know we all want to know what the deal with the cable is, but couldnt it be a simple signifier from the writers to the viewers that this is how there is electrical power on the island? I mean, if the writers never bring up the cable ever again, this is what we should assume really.

2] Correction for podcast: Charlie got the vaccine kit from the Dharma air drop, not Sawyer's stash. (I really hope he becomes addicted or has to take it every 9 days or die!)

3] Regarding how the Others knew Sawyer's real name: Cindy, if she's working for the Others or was interrogated by them, may have been aware of James Ford (and not Sawyer).

4] "At what point does the end not justify the means?" For a father? NEVER. Matt's right, Michael doesnt know the fellow Losties at all, after 2 months, they are still all strangers to each other. He would sacrafice all of them for his son without question. He definitely could go about saving his son in a more better way, but he's under the assumption that 1) if he doesnt act immediately his son will die and 2) because the other Losties are strangers, he cant trust them to pull through for him, the risk of losing Walt because of them is just too great a risk to take.

I dont think Michael is dumb, considering the situation he's in, its easy for us as viewers sitting on our sofas to ridicule character actions, and yeah the writers are creating drama too. Michael's main problem is he's so desperate to save Walt, he's not seeing the bigger picture: That the Others will never give up Walt. So yeah, he's not highly intelligent, but to be so, in this situation, would be to distance himself from emotion to think rationally. Not an easy thing to do at all.

If anyone's acting dumb, its Jack for not questioning Michael more, I think we can all agree on this.

Raz Minder

Now I am even more tempted to read the spoiler if it is in fact a foiler, but if it happens to truly be a spoiler, and not a foiler, well, that would really spoil the enjoyment of the finale.

So conflicted.

**Asks Magic 8 ball**

8 Ball: Reply hazy, try again.

**Asks again**

8 Ball: Signs point to yes.

That's really not definitive enough for me, 8 Ball.

The Other Brian

Have to say I agree with Chris Procter. Based on a new preview I saw yesterday, there are a few key moments that are not mentioned in the spoiler. Three of which are....

*MINOR SPOILERAGE from Preview*

From what I saw, it was Sayid busting into the Other's hatch, but the entire camp looked abandoned.

Eko tells Charlie that in 19 minutes everyone is going to die. The spoiler has the time table a bit off.

And also, Jack confronts Michael about, apparently, killing Ana and Libby.

At least that was my take on the short clips I saw.

Plus, the spoiler, aside from one thing, wasn't all that revealing. I mean, he/she witholds the big surprise. I call BS.

randomrandom

Read the spoiler, i call BS.

Cihan

Random:

"See you in the funny pages" made me think of Michael's cartoons for Walt.

randomrandom

Cihan: What???

Eugene

As far as i remember "The Stand" tell a story , where almost everybody dies , some people live , no mystic stuff ... Stephen King is an awesome writer by the way

Cihan

randomrandom:

"See you in the funny pages" is what one of the Others says to Michael after taking his blood. The funny pages is where the cartoons are in newspapers, and Michael seemed to have a talent in that area, when he drew cartoons for Walt. Just a random thought.

Giovanna

I've not read the spoiler, nor the other posts -- I really want to enjoy the finale. And based on what Compromised John said on the podcast, my prediction is probably not the case... but I wanted to point out that Libby has not actually been buried yet (I believe the bodies are resting in open holes when the boat is discovered). Wouldn't it be a great cliffhanger if Hurley et al go off to the tent camp and when the rest remember to finish the burial, Libby's body is gone. Is she alive? Has someone taken her body? What will Hurley do when he finds out? This could explain why no one from the show has talked about Watros's one-year contract/"kick-ass arc". What a coup for the writers if they were to use our assumptions about the double DUI and the flashback call sheet "spoiler" in their favor to cook up a surprise.

I like the idea that another plane will crash and it's pretty logical -- but also, entering the numbers may be the the thing somehow preventing the tent campers from entering Lostie territory, and perhaps that's how and where the showdown will occur (and we've been thrown off that scent by Michael's trip to tentland).

About the soundtrack album, Michael Giacchino (the composer) also did the soundtrack to "The Incredibles", which is a nice, jazzy score. Just like the Lost soundtrack, the Incredibles soundtrack has some cute song names like "Lava in the Afternoon", "Lithe or Death" and, for the final song, "The Incredits".

Dharma Bum

the song shannon was singing was 'beyond the sea'. it is a classic crooner song made famous by bobby darren. when i heard that it made me think that dannielle was thinking along the same line as fenry when he said 'god cant see this island any better than the rest of the world can'. possibly a hint towards some sort of other dimension theory buit that seems unlikley now.

James Troi

I still go for some kind of time travel, 4th dimension stuff for this show. And maybe Walt is able to shift through them, he has appeared older at least once...

For the final show, I reckon the 5 will trek through the woods while Sayid takes the boat with back-up around the island.

I think I remember in the Official podcast that Damon and Carlton said a few episodes back, that we wouldn't see Rousso for the rest of the season so I don't think she'll help them.

I think Alex will become pivotal, she's had a couple of eps now where she has shown she is not too happy about her lot.

sam

ok, this kinda relates to the experience, but stick w/ me on this one. On that sight, the date october 23 shows up many times: under Alvar Hanso's picture, under the northers light picture (like a caption for both.) and I THINK that this might be the day that the Losties plane crashed because they didn't know if the Red Sock's won the world series but clearly knew that they were in it because they must have seen then come back from being down 0-3. So I think that this date might have some big influences later in the show. like WAY later. maybe this will be the day that they get off this g-d forsaken island that "g-d can't even see"(woohoo, go Frenry quote.) So, just sayin what I noticed.

And now on a completely different topic about Eko. In his flash back he delt with a fake miracle. I live in nor cali and there was a story on the news here about a kid callin 911 saying something along the lines of "my daddy killed me with a butcher knife" and then "ohh no, I have to go." This was later found out to have been a trick the dad played with his son's help. Anyways, this was shown just 1 day after LOST aired. It is in all likely hood this guy got it from LOST or something, but still, shows how much LOST affects peoples lives (if my theory on this is true.)

Stay LOST,

Sam

Cameron

Excellent podcast, one of your best since 'Lockdown'. Very useful insights from Matt Jones yet again - although I am more in John's camp - I hate Michael and there is no excusing what he did. Great input from Joy as well - great to have her back on the team.

Anyways I too am staying well clear of the killer spoiler link. I saw the reference whilst downloading from the site and was worried that you were actually going to discuss it on the podcast. Your comments about how much spoilerage is just enough were right on.

So, my unspoilered (and probably way off) stab at the finale: Locke's 'momentous decision' re the button will be to prise the 'Execute' key off the keyboard and hide it from Eko, much the same way that Clinton's outgoing staff did with all the 'W' keys on the White House computers after Bush won the Supreme Court challenge for the 2000 election!

In other words, I really have no idea.

Finally, please add my vote for a video podcast. Maybe if you can't do the whole thing in video, a 15 second grab from each of you with your reaction to the finale would be great, and you could post that in a separate file which won't overload people's bandwidth to download.

dark_thommy

Although I read all the spoilers I can... I still think there is much to discover in the episode..

but I think BASED ON THE SPOILERS that: there are 2 open story lines: the hatch being destroyed with Locke, Eko, Charlie and Desmond involved/ and the other "walt" hatch where Micheal, Walt, Jack, Sawyer, Kate, Jin, Hurley and Fenry are revealed the big "dharma secret" which opens up another angle to watch the show.

WeakLemonDrink

Great PodCast as per usualy, guys.

One thing about your comments about the the feedback we heard in Lockdown, though. You'd only get feedback if you had a microphone close to a speaker it was outputting to. I'm assuming any hidden mics in The Swan would only feed to The Pearl and not out of the speakers in The Swan so you'd not get any feedback.

So, the feedback seems like it was just a cool sound rather than meaning anything specific

Greg Cass

Here's my guess at the finale:

Apologies if this has been said, but I couldn't find it anywhere...

A couple weeks ago in the official Lost Podcast, Carlton hinted that the name Widmore would come up in the finale and that there was a branch of the Widmore family in the British Isles. Of course Bad Twin told us all about the American branch of the family, so I don't think they will come up. My guess is that we will learn that our hatch dweller's full name is Desmond Widmore and that the British Widmore group has worked over the years within the lives of all our lostaways. I'm not sure if they were prepping them for this experiment or not, but I'm almost positive there is a connection.

It's really just a shot in the dark, but it feels good...any thoughts?

Nilesh

This is my shot at explaining the current situation:
1. The "Others" are not bad people.
2. They are trying to help these people and themselves by using Walt.
3. Walt lost it for a moment, but was in on the con that Michael was being put through.
4. They need those 4 people for a random reason, nothing specific.
5. Charlie has also been compromised, but not by the others.

todd

In regrards to the sawyer/ford thing, the only one that I assumed that knew about sawyer's real name was Locke... because I assume that sawyer is using fake passports, IDs, and the like under his assumed name. He took on the name before the crash so...

Alex

So...how does Locke know Sawyer's real name?
The manifest?

Mark B

Ok I'm game for looking stupid (again), so here goes nothing, my pretty much unspoiled Lost finale predictions. Other then the preview (which some consider a spoiler) and the odd thing that was said in the podcast I'm pretty much spoiler free though that wikipedia spoiler is really tempting.

I guess we need to consider the things that Damon/Carlton said we would get resolution on which were;

A. Why/how the plane crashed.
B. Michael/Walt situation.
C. What effect not pushing the button has (I have always thought A was intrinsically linked to this).
D. Who dies/comes close (I don't think Damon/Carlton say someone else would die, this came from Michelles comments so it may be BS).
E. The Butterfly Effect from the island to the outside world.

Warning some complete and utter bollocks follows ....

1. The sail boat is Desmonds. He's been on it since shortly after he ran off (about a month or so) and is pretty sick due to lack of food/water not being 'illness' sick. He was trying to sail away but got sick and the currents bought him back (like the raftees). We'll learn lots more about Desmond in this episode, both pre-island and on-island.
2. The 'Party of Five' set off to the Others camp and find the canisters from the Pearl and run into the smoky monster. As an aside I can't see Hurley in the preview but I think he goes along.
3. Sayid and Jin sail round the island as part of a ambush the ambushers plan (which perhaps Jack/Kate/Sawyer/Hurley do not know about, certainly Michael does not -- unless Michael is found out and the Losties force him to take them to the Others camp) to get to the Others camp. Sayid and Jin make it to the Others camp but no-one is there. The yurts are deserted.
4. The Party of Five turn up at the camp, it's still deserted. Along with Sayid and Jin enter the new hatch and find the now smartly dressed Others.
5. Meanwhile .... Locke goes to the Black Rock to get dynamite to blow up the Swan (fantastic idea stolen from Matt Jones). Locke and Eko get into a fight about the button and Locke blows up part of the Swan. Perhaps Locke does an Artz !?!? Perhaps Charlie is killed in the explosion. Someone finds some extra room (the dotted lines at the northern end of the Swan map). Swan goes into lockdown when Eko panics enters the numbers too soon or too late or as a direct result of the explosion. The numbers are meant to be entered to keep some suppression field in place around the magnet. The plane was bought down either directly by the magnet going off or perhaps turbulence caused somehow by the magnet.
6. And finally the Michael and Walt situation is resolved cause Walt dies. Perhaps by saving one of the other Losties -- Hurley would be the best choice from a 'circle of fate' situation. I'm guessing Hurley goes after Fenery when he sees him in the new hatch and one of the Others attacks Hurley and Walt somehow gets involved and dies. This would be pretty interesting as the island takes a sacrifice of Walt, the reason Michael killed Ana and Libby. An eye for an eye type deal. This would also allow the writers to simply ignore the whole age progression issue with Walt.
7. I have no idea about how the butterfly effect may be appropriate. I think this is just linked to the non-button pressing.
8. I have no idea what the cliff-hanger final scene will be either but I don't think it will be another plane crash.

So I've really hedged on the who gets killed but for the record I think it's Walt.

Mark B

Billy

Just a question to anyone else who read the spoiler... do some of you still feel like there's a lot that happens in this episode that won't be understood until we actually see the show?

Billy

I didn't read all the messages... so most are in agreement that this thing has to be BS, cause a lot of that didn't even make sense... if that's honestly how this season is going to end, I'm going to be very pissed, cause that ending sucks ass...

This Girl

On the map, there was something about the cure (the vaccine) being worse than the disease. So Desmond couldn't have written the map, because he took vaccine. Whatever happened to the guy who died, who was with Desmond? And how did he die? Whatever happened caused Desmond to be even more adamant about pressing the button, even though it was just him.

Also, if the question mark hatch can see into the the Lost hatch, then those guys are bastards to let Desmond deal with all that by himself.

I think Eko would not go off the deep end if it was just him pressing the button. Desmond didn't. I do think Locke and Eko will have it out. I think Locke realized that he had become "all things hatch" instead of "all things island" and that is why he was on the beach... sort of communing with the island. Whatever is going on with the island, the hatches (and whoever put them there) are interlopers. That's why Locke may realize that the hatch must be destroyed. If what they said about the next season's theme is true, then, despite the deaths and fights, they will realize that they have to stick together because what is against them is more menacing than they thought. (I just wish I could guess what that was.)

I don't think another plane will crash - or if it is a plane, it won't be a jet like theirs. If they bring someone to the island, I think it will be someone who will help the "them" that are against the Lost characters.

The smoke monster better show his face because that was the scariest thing in the first season, almost like a horror movie, and I NEED to know what that is all about.

This is weird, but I had a dream that there were alot of Walts walking around in the camp. I'm wondering if he is a twin or has a twin, something that Michael's mother didn't tell him about, or genetically engineered along with other "Walts" and the Others are trying to find out why this Walt is special.

And the question is, even though he is his father and all, why IS Michael so interested in being with Walt, who hated him so much before?

I have other thoughts, but I'm knitting. I'll get back to y'all later.

Amy

Hey guys... great podcast. Just a quick correction. You said Charlie got the "vaccine" from Sawyer's stash. That's wrong, he said he found it in the pallet (what DHARMA allegedly dropped, with the food). This is a big thing to correct because there could be an importance to whether that vaccine is something provided to the hatchlings with their food, or something randomly found from the plane. In the end, all supplies may be the same, but its important to stay accurate on what the episode told us. Especially if that vaccine stuff plays into next season. THANKS!

http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=9407

Conrad from Pennsylvania

A bit off subject, but after listening to your podcast I thought of this. I think that the black smoke is a security system and killed the pilot because he was an other that crashed the plane on purpose.

Conrad from Pennsylvania

Also, isn't the Symbol on the Hatch an "8" in the LCD form. Could correspond with the numbers.

Elizabeth

Something that wasn't brought up was how Walt was yelling "I LOVE YOU" with purpose, like he didnt just mean that he loves his dad, but he meant something else. I dont know, just wanted to throw that out there, despite being horribly late, lol. great podcast as always :)

Caleb Farley

Here's my finale theory.

Jack and co. at the Others camp find out what the numbers do; they stop the magnet from charging up, which is one of the things that bring down planes. The other incident that happened on the island started it's own magnet. This is what draws things to the island (Desmond's boat, flight 815, etc.). When this second magnet starts, the pull from the two magnets is what caused the plane to be ripped in half. It's how one part of the plane landed on one side of the island, and the other part on the other side of the island. They make their way back to the hatch, but it's under lockdown. When they manage to get the door open (the Swan key?), they go to input the numbers but find the magnet has already started up. They hear a loud whirring noise, an explosion, and the ground shakes. Another plane has crashed onto the island, and the Lostaways have new people.

Greg Cass

On the new hatch logo:

I think that the white line in the center is just the shadow of the Dharma letters and that the symbol is a simple black rectangle.

This symbol reminds me of the black obelisk from 2001 A Space Odyssey. Classic sci-fi. I believe those obelisks had some sort of power to communicate. It also is a strong symbol of power and control.

Just some thoughts thrown into the void...

Yolanda

i dont know if i just missed it but why was this episode titled three minutes?

Cihan

Yolanda: Michael had three minutes allowed with Walt.

*sniff*

Nando Rossi

Listening to the latest podcast now, something just ocourred me, which may be just a random thought but I think it's valid.

I just had my interview with the US Immigration Office to get a greencard, and in this interview they make you show all these personal things, essentially to prove you and your spouse have a real bond, and aren't just doing it for the greencard.

The interview process made me think a lot about Michael's "interview" with the island's "authority": long, torturing wait, judgemental looks and questions from an interviewer who wanted to know details about my personal life. Basically breaking down something emotional into cold, scientific evidence.

I can't really make this with a plausible theory, mostly cause I gotta work, maybe someone else can make sense of it... anyway, keep up the awesome work guys. I can't wait for wednesday, but also don't know how I'll live without my weekly injection of LOST for so long.

Tyler W

hey i'm sure you guys have been on this site but it tells you who is on the episodes and names of the characters for future epidodes like who is in the season finale

Chareles Widmore! is on the finale!

sam

just looking up the actor who plays Charles Widmore:
Name: Alan Dale
Weird Movie He Was In: The LOST World
Werid, but true. And LOST is capitolized, just like in our favorite show. Also, he is in both parts of the finale or how ever you spell it. So maybe he makes a guest appearence on the island?? Maybe yes, Maybe no. We will find out soon enough.

Stay LOST,

ok... random thoughts...

1, Alex has been with the others since she was a baby, right? so if the others really were evil and bad, then she would have turned out to be evil and wierd, but she appears to be normal..(which i cant really understand, because she's been living on a secluded island for 18 years with no other kids, and generally people who grow up alone turn out a little wierd)...so if we base what we think about the others on the way that she is acting, then we should assume that they really arent bad, or else she too would have turned out pretty bad (because people take on the traits and beliefs of those who bring them up)

2. I havent read the spoiler yet (but it is soooooooo tempting) but i think in the finale we will find that Desmond is on the boat (I know this is already said) and he is probably sick because he hasnt eaten anything, and in his semi-conscious state, he spills the secrets of the island... also, i think michael might die in order to resolve the walt thing, and for some reason (i could be totally wrong here) i think walt kills him... but only after getting something that he really needs from walt (could be something stupid like an organ or something) i think this because it always seems like walt is in control of everything around him... like when they were on the raft and the boat left, and then somehow walt made it come back...

3. someone mentioned something about the stand.. and the book is a little sci-fi, because there are two leaders of the people who are left after a "super flu" epidemic (seems a little wierd now with the whole bird flu thing) and they get people to come to them by speaking to them through dreams... and if that isnt a big part of whats happening to the losties, then i dont know what is

...anyway thats what i think...

I'm not sure if you've seen this but I thought it was kinda interesting given the parallels between the "blast wall map" and astrology. This is from letyourcompassguideyou.com under hugh mcintyre's folder. Two interesting elements (1) the astrological diagram and (2) the small addition of the words "the mouth piece". You can see the words right next to the buddah figurine. Stay Lost.

Erich

My one little prediction...
Truth: the Earth's magnetic poles periodically reverse themselves. We are currently living in the longest stretch of time between reversals, implying we are due for one very soon (in geological time).

Prediction:I am guessing that the Hanso Foundation scientists discovered that polar reversals have historically been followed by periods of catastrophe. Mass exstiction/death...whatever it is, bad news for us.
They also find out that the island is/can somehow prevent the reversal or in some way make it bearable or survivable at the least.

I think it was a popular theory during season 1 that the island is related to the (real world) South Atlantic Anomaly and I still like this theory.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/South_Atlantic_Anomaly
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polar_reversal

not a huge revelation, Im sure someone else has hit on it, but I studied elec engineering in college, so I'm drawn to this stuff.

Preston

Cracking podcast! I really enjoyeyd it, listened to it twice at work last night... I turned it off midway in the spoliers tho cos I was scared you were gonna say what you read in that printout! I am sooo looking forward to this weeks episode of LOST.

I own a xbox 360 and I heard yesterday bout the videogame, I cant wait! I hope it's a point n click game, I'll be buying it for sure :O)

Seth

Okay, so after reading all these comments, a theory just hit me about the hatch and the button, not so much what the button does but why things have been set up the way they are.

My rational mind tells me that the button does nothing, that it is indeed a psychological experiment as Jack argued in "Orientation" and as Locke now believes. Knowing this show, that's actually the best argument for this NOT being the case. But, assuming the button does something, why would Dharma put surveilance on the Swan without telling the watchers the significance of the project? I think Dharma may not have wanted to induce undue panic in the watchers themselves which might hamper them in doing their job. This is by no means an infallable theory, but it does go some way towards explaining it.

So, I did read the spoiler article, and am not sure at whether it's BS or not. It's largely consistent with what we've heard already from hints dropped in the official podcast and such, although that would be easy enough to engineer. I would not be at all disappointed if events played out as the spoiler article describes, though. Furthermore, the article really doesn't answer many of the main questions we have, it just outlines the specific episode structure. I guess we'll all find out tomorrow, I feel more than a little guilty for having read it.

Also, I'd like to make a plug for Philip Pullman's "His Dark Materials" as mentioned on the podcast. The first book indeed centers around "experimental theologists" (as scientists are called in Pullman's world) conducting experiments on children. The series as a whole, however, deals with a lot of other themes featured on LOST: the importance of childhood, the interplay between faith and science, questions of authority, and so forth. I totally agree with the LOSTcasters that no work of literature completely influences this show, but if nothing else these books are a great read in their own right.

Seth

Oh, and as a gamer I thought I'd comment on the whole LOST video game too.

There are a couple problems I can foresee. One is that the game will cater too much to the traditional gamer demographic. If there's one shooting match with the others or "run from the monster sequence" I'll scream. Seriously, though, as much of a gamer as I am, any successful rendition of LOST wouldn't conform to most modern video game genres.

I also think it might be difficult to fully integrate the game into the LOST universe, given that most of us fawn over any official word or clue proffered by official channels. The game will need to strike a balance between sufficient integration into the LOST universe to immerse us and hopefully give us some clues, and on the other hand not giving us too many answers. For example, one idea I envisioned upon hearing about the game was an opportunity to explore the Dharma Initiative headquarters. This idea, however, would be challenging if not impossible to implement. Surely memos on some of the members' desks would reveal far too much about the exact nature of the island.

Having said that, I still think there are some good possibilities for a gaming experience. One idea I just had that I quite like, but that probably won't happen given the multi-platform announcement, is the idea of releasing perodic new game content to coincide with LOST tv episodes. So, to return to the above example, we might see a LOST episode which reveals the identity of "Him" who Henry mentions this season. During that week, probably right after the episode, game developers could make available a key for the game character to find which allows access to "His" office and gives the viewer more background information. It would have to be well-planned, of course, and there are potential problems, but overall I think it would be reall cool.

Even barring that, I think the LOST game in general could be really cool if it's, as someone else suggested, an old-school point-and-click adventure like the King's Quest games or perhaps more fittingly like Myst. Now I think about it, the Myst framework works well on several levels. I think there are plenty of side stories that could be told that would enrich our understanding of LOST without ruining the carefully orchestrated TV show. For instance, what if we got to play through a segment learning who the REAL Henry Gale was and what inspired his balloon trip? Things like that.

Okay, I'm done with my rambling. :)

Cihan

On the surface a Lost game seems like a bad idea, the industry is full of them, did you know they made a game out of Fight Club? But if its handled correctly, with the enthusiasm and attention to detail of the webgame we're all concentrating on at the moment, then it could be great. Seth, nice reference to Myst which Lost seems to homage now and then, if its a surreal and cryptic adventure game like that, then it would be very interesting.

As to the role of the gamer, well I guess playing one of the log-carrying extras of the show would be best, we could have our own mini Lost adventure, collaborate with the main characters of the show and not impact the main storyline too much. Unless of course all the extras are killed off in the 2 hour finale, hehe.

I'll give you another cool idea though, the game wouldnt be set on the island, but off it much like the ARG, and we play the role of a conspiracy theorist, or just some regular person sucked into the Dharma conspiracy, and we do some detective work, stuff like that. And it would be in the style of the point and click game Broken Sword.

hey have you guys seen this yet? It is an article I found on the Generally Speaking Podcast site. There is a small interview with Cliff, and than Jay and Jack, and at the bottom it mentions your podcast. Thought this was really cool.

Thanks for not reading the spoiler guys...I like being surprised.

So…I can't remember now if it was discussed on the podcast or somewhere in the comments section (everything's fusing these days) but I'd like to say that I really like the idea of season 3 centering on the character development and point of view of the others.

My crackpot theory for the finale...

1) We find out that the Others' camp is a front for the Hanso Foundation experiments being funded by Widmore money and made to look like an Elios hippy pearl farming community. The Widmore “Heir apparent”, Zander (who goes by many names in Bad Twin) will appear and become a main character. Please refer to Bad Twin)

2) We find out that the island is a paranormal rather than a literal "magnet", attracting people of like mind (or spirit). Walt, being so attracted to the island, and possessing the power to make things happen, brings the plane down. The other clairvoyant Losties subconsciously followed Walt onto the plane. The scientists, understanding the island's power have been banking on this occurrence and helped the Losties get onto the plane by intentionally creating their paths.

3) Desmond finds out that Libby was on the plane that crashed and comes back to the island to rescue her. When he finds out that she was murdered he joins Sayid and Jin in their stealth attack on the Others.

4) The fab 4 get captured and Sayid, Jin and Desmond fail save them. The season ends on a down note but sets up a new twist to the 3rd season.

5) Michael dies trying to save his son. Walt does not get rescued from the Others but instead forms an alliance with Alex to work against them from within.

6) I'm a big fan of Locke blowing up that old Swan hatch but I definitely think the button fails to get pushed before that happens. I think the Locke/Ecko confrontation will be a paranormal one rather than a physical one. Maybe they'll have the same dream. I don't know...

7) The button not getting pushed results in...ummm

I_Love_Sayid

ummm...
Maybe the button not getting pushed does not create an occurrence on the island but causes something to happen somewhere else. So what that could be? I don't know.

D-Three

The spoiler link is clearly BS to me. Whoever wrote this looked at spoilers, pictures, and the preview and put together a plausible story. Notice that none of the big reveals are given. Also, there are things that are in the newest preview and also the Canadian preview that don't go with this spoiler. Some of may turn out be good guesses, but that all it is, a guess.

Seth

One more thing I've been thinking about. I doubt it bears on the finale, but it's a general idea that intrigues me. Sorry I don't have a reference for this, but I remember reading somewhere that I think David and Carlton said we are just assuming that the events of the show take place around 2003-4, when the show started filming, but that this isn't necessarily the case. Given the settings in the flashbacks, among other things, I wouldn't give it much more than a ten-year window in either direction, but it still raises some interesting possibilities.

Kathy aka Fangirl

I thought of another way that Jack, Kate, Sawyer and Hurley might be connected. Jack's dad died mysteriously. Kate's dad was blown up. Sawyer's dad shot himself. Hurley's dad wasn't around in his backstory so maybe he died as well. They all have father issues and there is the whole parent/child issues with Michael and Walt. Just something I thought might be interesting.

Seth

Here are a coupe possibly related suggestions for summer podcasts.

- The big one would be Season Three predictions, based largely on the finale but also on unresolved themes throughout Season Two, like Rousseau, the vaccine (assuming that doesn't get explained), the monster, etc.

- Possibly a rehash of Season One. It's tempting to regard this entire season as merely a huge character introduction to prepare us for the action in Season Two. But I think in light of what's happened this season there may still be some very interesting theories to develop about the island about the direction of certain characters in future episodes, and so forth. Also, I think it would be good for us in general to have a reminder of what happened in the first season.

Just some ideas.

Experiment 626

Kathy aka Fangirl --

I mentioned the "dead father" angle (for the four on the list) a few days ago; nice to see I'm not the only one to think of it! ;-)

Kathy aka Fangirl

Experiment 626 - You know what they say. Great minds...

Is anyone a fan of Taye Diggs? I try to watch some of his movie and television work, but they have never been very good. But i know him as a broadway star. He was AMAZING in Rent and i was lucky enough to see him in Wicked will in for someone. He worked with his wife Idina in that performance and it was amazing.

I just thought you guys were a bit rough with the way you treated him. Maybe his movie work is not the best but his vocal performances are amazing!

Kathy aka Fangirl

Taye Diggs was good in "Go" and that's about all I know him from. I think he was the piano player in "Chicago" as well.

I'm picking what shows I will be tivoing when the Entertainment Weekly's fall shows issue comes out. It gives nice descriptions and is overall a good source of info on the new shows.

Mike Campbell

I agree with the lost book club. We should have one to two weeks to read each book and then maybe try to have a time we could all meet in a chat or just have a comment page. and then you guys could make a podcast with your and our ideas.

Maybe Skype is an option where we could have a group cast. but thats just an idea. We should start off simple with "Watership Down". And save the "Brothers" untill the end :)

Mike Campbell

I don't know if anyone has seen this but tomorrow night Hugh McIntyre from the HANSO Foundation is going to be on jimmy kimmel. WTF MAN WTF. Looks like he will be making a major return.

Damn. Less than 20 hours to go now!! Can anyone - other than John - stand the anticipation????

Kane

Is the latest episode over yet?
Really looking forward to watch it.

"They all have father issues and there is the whole parent/child issues with Michael and Walt."

If we go by dead fathers, that's a possibility (though Hurley's pop may be bouncing around somewhere). If it's based on daddy issues, well, Locke's daddy issues are right up there with Jack, Kate, and Sawyer. The guy stole his kidney!

I have no convincing reason to include Hurley in that list, unless the Dharma folks have an ATM machine in their hatch, and they're going to demand Hurley make tons of withdrawals to fund their projects. Or heck, since his financial manager was doing things Hurley didn’t know about (“I own a box company?”), maybe Hurley’s manager did a hostile takeover of Widmore or Hanso, and now Hurley is the new boss!

(Hey, that’s not a bad idea…!)

Kathy aka Fangirl

Hurley owning the controlling shares would be great.

The difference with Locke as opposed to the others is that Locke's dad is still alive. It's a weak theory, I admitt.

smacky

Hurley: "Duuuuuuude, You mean I own this whole island?"

fake Henry Gale: "That's right sir! The island and everything on it."

Hurley: "Take me to the cloning hatch. I need a new Libby."

Longtime lurker...first time poster...

Love all of you guys/the podcast/the show/the theorizing/the deep level of intelligence here/yada yada yada

Just have to get this out...

I'm predicting Michael is going down tonight and I think Hurley is going to be the one to kill him.

Also, just have to say I watched The Hunting Party again after watching last weeks episode, and I thought the editing was well done...but also noticed Sawyer calling Mr Friendly Zeke. Now, I'm dying to know what his name really is. Wouldn't it be something if his name was actually Zeke!? I hope his name is something else we'll learn in the finale.

I've been fighting every urge to look at spoilers, so maybe I'm way off base with my guesses!

Enjoy it all everyone!

Mark B

Slight modification to my previous theory on what happens to resolve the Michael/Walt situation. I think the Others find out from Michaels blood that he is not Walts father. Walt finds out what Michael did and tells Michael that he does not love him. Michael runs off into the jungle to live like Danielle, or perhaps kills himself.

Kathy aka Fangirl

Is anyone else shivering with antici..... pation for tonight?

Cameron

Kathy aka Fangirl: we are indeed. Even here, on the other side of the world where it is already tomorrow.

So you might say that we are shivering with anticipation for last night - but well, you get the idea...

SUMMER PODCASTS:
Would love to have a podcast featuring the whole Hanso Foundation mythology -- especially with background from the Lost Experience.

Michael Box

I don't know if anyone has seen this, but wikipedia has an interesting article on Hanso. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hanso

A lot of LOST Experience stuff contained in that article. Also, Jimmy Kimmel is in fact interviewing Hugh McIntyre tonight on his show. Tivo that one for sure!

Can't wait for the finale.

Stay LOST

Nando Rossi

Just so you know, those weird guys in a plane/bunker/whatever, with the yellow phone... they were speaking portuguese with an american accent.

PORTUGUESE. Why? So random... I'm brazilian, by the way.

Blown away, can't wait for your next podcast...

No-E

so...let me getthis straight. it seems that desmond's, girlfriend was a widmore and has been trying to track the island for some reason, i guess to find him because her father arranged for him to land there. this definitely strengthens the theory that the hanso foundation and widmore are battling over intellectual property, or something on the island. there was a ton of build up to the finale and i have to say that i was not that impressed. i have really been a fan of this show, particularly this season but i feel like the writers kinda dropped the ball with this. i was not suprised that not entering the numbers caused the plane to crash or that michael and walt were sent off the island. i really want to know how this pans out next season, but not because they left me in suspense, but because all of this build up should lead to something awesome. jj abrams was totally lying when he said the finnaly was going to blow the socks off of lost fans (BOO ON HIM!). hopefully, this isn't going to become like desperate housewives, second season downturn plot-wise :( Stay lost??

sam

Fiale starts in 46 minets here on the left coast, so could someone just tell me this. Was the finale all that it was cracked up to be, or was it kinda a let down? Thats all I want to know. Thanks in advance for those that do this.

Stay LOST over the summer,
Sam

Burnt72

Ozymandius - perfect analogy for the state of Dharma. But why only 4 toes?

My question - was the reason for flight 815 crashing really answered? So the whole thing happened because of a random incident?

Hey, it's good to see that the whole Wikipedia spoiler was wrong - :)

 xxx

so that big spoiler link at the end was only partially true. it got the basic gist of what happened but didnt include many events and made up some other things that never happened. guess you cant always trust the web.

Mark B

Has anyone elses LOST world been turned upside down in the last two hours ?

My predictions were so far off I wasn't even close to being in the ball park.

I have no idea what is going on anymore. So many more unanswered questions.

So how many days until Season 3 starts ?

giovanna

I thought the finale had some great unexpected reveals. Just let yourself go and enjoy the heck out of it.

SPOILER/FOILER ALERT
too funny about the "spoiler" --- looks like someone got a hold of a few stills and tried to connect the dots...

Erich

Was that giant foot possibly supposed to be the ruins of the Colossus of Rhodes perhaps?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colossus_of_rhodes

Also, when Fenry said "we're the good guys" it never really made it clear whom that was in comparison to.

Mrs. Hurley

No-e: What are you talking about??? this was an awesome episode. I was on the edge of my seat the whole two hours!!! so many questions!!!

careful spoilers for the season finale ahead. DONT READ IF YOU HAVENT WATCHED IT!

We need to keep checking the virtual game as this whole Widmore vs Hanso seems to be in the core of the story.

And what about Eko and Locke????? are they dead?! does anyone know if the actors have contracts for the next season???? I'd be absolutely gutted if they were dead. Those are the best two characters, after Hurley of course!

I don't think Michael will leave... he'll either bump into Sayid on his way out or the guilt will make him go back.

There was no security system!!!! i thought they would deffinately bump into it at some point.

So many things happened in this episode...

And what about Kelvin??? He mentions he was in the military so I assumed he was the same one that freed Sayid. I didn't read the big spoiler until now after the episode cause i didnt want to be compromised. but now that i read it, although a lot of things were wrong, it says about Kelvin being the twin of Joe Inman, guy from Sayids flashbacks.... So is he? I need the DVD to rewatch!!!

So are the others making the whispers??? or were the whispers separate from the ambush? if it is the others Rousseau was right all along! she said on season one she could hear the others in the trees.

Ace about the Pearl being the experiment... and about the hatch on the beach being a fake... and we were all checking what the symbol on it was!!!

Anyway, cant wait for the lostcast!!!!! It's gonna be a great one!

Adam

According to Wikipedia and links on google, and the very limited time I looked at it....ozymandius, a sonnet by Percy Bysshe Shelley, is inspired by Egyptian ruins, noted here http://www.rc.umd.edu/rchs/waith.htm
Additionally, the sonnet was the inspiration for the first issue of Alan Moore's comic book series "The Watchmen". I know the guys referenced this series in Podcast #19, but I can't remember in what context. Any insights? I'm sure ohters have found these same connections, just wanted to post them in case they help stoke any thoughts.
