Matt,
If you want to know why Kate had the marks on her wrists after her time with Ben, watch this:
http://dvdlost.blogspot.com/2007/10/season-3-kate-handcuff-scene.html
There's nothing there, it was just a deleted scene.
Posted by: JY | February 10, 2008 at 09:51 PM
JY,
I've never mentioned anything about marks on her wrist. That deleted scene tells us nothing about what Ben and Kate's conversation was. I could be wrong, but I think that conversation will come into play in a big way.

Something else interesting in that slo-mo vid. As Hurley is being restrained, you can clearly see 'HO' spelled behind him in those tinker toy things.

Great podcast. I hate it when people bitch about the cast of contributors, but the two guys on this week's installment are extremely good as a two-person podcast. I've been listening since season two, and I still cannot identify the guys by voice.
Excellent point about it being unlikely that Kate could have been one of the publicized Oceanic Six. I also like the Garden of Eden analogy in terms of Jack wanting to get back to the island.
I think it's very likely that the freighties are sent by some remnants or followers of what Dharma was, but they seem extremely ragtag. They were sent to get Ben for what he did to the Dharma Initiative. Maybe Farraday (sp?) and Jeff Fahey were chosen because of their interests in the crash but were obviously given a mission that was only somewhat related to the Losties. The Ghostbuster guy really surprised me. At first when he was so unsurprised by the survivors I thought he just thought he was seeing more dead people.

Tasha: could've used a warning, i opened that link in class! 0_0
haven't listened to the podcast yet, can't wait to get home and hear what you guys have to say.
btw, i think it's ironic how the last official podcast featured the show's costume designer in which he said that if people don't notice the clothes then he's done his job, while people on the forums were complaining about daniel faraday looking like an la hipster.

Comment on the people don't change comment.
I have to say that charlie came on the island being a drug addict and totally left being a totally different character. I am sure there are others that have changed but he just poped into my brain off the bat.

SO... Ben said he has a man on that boat. In the podcast, it was stated that it's probably Daniel. That's reasonable, I suppose, but am I the only one who thinks it might be Michael?? We know he's coming back this season. That would be a pretty cool way to bring him back, I think.
Rock, rock on!

Just watched an episode of Law and Order: Criminal Intent that featured Michael Emerson (Benjamin Linus) as an economist that kidnaps his children. He was also from Essex, MA. Here is the IMDB link to the episode:
http://imdb.com/title/tt0275140/
I know it is coincidental, but there is an upcoming episode of LOST called "The Economist" and we have two new characters from Essex (Charlotte from Essex, England and Daniel from Essex, MA.)
Just thought it was an interesting coincidence. Also Emerson was just as creepy in the episode as he is as Ben.

Thought I'd pass along the following bit from an AP article concerning the post-strike TV landscape; what I'm pasting is about Lost; the full story is at http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080212/ap_en_tv/hollywood_labor_viewers;_ylt=Aig3JhQ1l.bLHcZNn4CF6OFpMhkF
Damon Lindelof is eager for some answers. An executive producer of ABC's mystery serial "Lost," he should learn this week what his show's future holds as it closes out its fourth season.
"Lost" has been back on the air just two weeks. But the strike meant a planned 16-episode shooting schedule was halted after just eight episodes were shot. Fans braced themselves for no more this season.
"But we very much want to come back and do as many episodes as possible," said Lindelof, who then listed a few issues that first need to be settled.
"How many episodes can best serve our story? And what are the production realities?" He noted that the shooting facility in Hawaii, 2,500 miles from his Los Angeles office, had been shuttered since Thanksgiving. The crew has dispersed, the huge cast has scattered.
The first new post-strike episode of "Lost" could possibly be ready for broadcast the week after episode eight appears, he said. There likely would be three or four more after that.
Could there be even more?
"I'd be surprised if the network wanted to air episodes deep into the summer," he said. But if all the pieces fell into place, "Lost" fans would be blessed: "I don't see why we couldn't deliver all eight remaining episodes."
That kind of zeal should warm viewers' hearts. Lindelof and the rest of TV's creative community seem delighted to be back.
Almost as delighted as we are.

I believe in what I call the Oceanic theory. In the podcast the guys suggested that Oceanic Airlines may not just be a normal airline. I believe that there is an "underground company" which works behind the disguise of oceanic airlines. For example when Frank Lapidus realized that the pilot was not the real pilot, he hence realized that the found flight 815 is a fake. Since Frank knew it was a fake the "underground company" had to let him in on what is really going on. I also believe that the real pilot of 815 was in on the mission of getting flight 815 to crash. The "underground company" planned it in such a way that the pilot needed a reason to turn the plane around hence vary off the original flight course and hence flying in close proximity of the island which they knew would be ripped in two by the magnetism build up of the hatch. I guess thats why Frank was not chosen to fly 815 since he is too good of a pilot. The real pilot got killed by the monster because the island knew what was the intentions of the entire plot.

An article in USA Today this date mentioned the shows that will be back before the end of this season (Lost being one) and those that are gone permanently due to the aftereffects of the strike. Among the latter is "Cane", which means that Richard Alpert may indeed be immortal and be back!

As Always an Awsome pod cast..I recall in the beginning of the show, there lots of things given to us on website, but one sticks in my mind, a letter that stated there was another oceanic flight lost a couple of years before, no passengers, just cargo, it was never found..
so i was thinking that maybe they are using that plane in place.
and just a thought while driving and listening to the podcast.. we have heard they double backed and took us off the trail.. Ethan. Naiome.. so could it be that our story is being given to us in the same manner.. take one direction - very hitchcock - but really be about something that we keep over looking?
thanks again for such great work and taking the time to stop for us and do the post casts..

Just saw this quote:
As for "Lost," exec producer Carlton Cuse said he and fellow showrunner Damon Lindelof would meet with ABC brass today to hammer out the plan for the rest of the season. They won't be able to finish the remaining eight segs of the show's planned 16-episode season -- five is a more likely number -- but they will be able to craft a completed storyline for the remainder of this season, Cuse said.

Keep up the good work guys!
Posted by: Mike | February 12, 2008 at 04:19 PM
I just heard that Lindeloff and Cuse want to add another 5 episodes to this shortened season. These Guys Rock! I know it costs a lot to get the season up and running again. That's the best news I've heard in three months!

Everyone is talking about whats going on with the plane. Heres a though... What if after the people from the boat come over and take the people off the island, what if they take the plane wreckage and take the ocean and drop it there to "stage" the planes disappearance

A wonderful podcast as usual! It's always my great regret that I don't stick around towards the end (I'm one of those icky anti-spoiler people). Pity the "frother" moniker didn't stick, but thus is scholarship: only the best ideas rise to the top, and the LostCasts scholars have spoken! :P
Kathy, great links, especially to the ABC site!
Mike, GREAT link to the Variety article--of special interest was them saying they'll probably do 5 more episodes this season AND make them up next season! Yippie yippie!!

Dude, can you stop with all of your manic compliments to everyone. Jesus, you could be a character on LOST, with your obvious Daddy Issues.
"Frothers" was gay-er than you, so of course it didn't stick. And the fact that you're "anti-spoiler" is SO NOT A SHOCK, that I'm wondering why you even bothered mentioning it. Just admit that you like your asshole rammed by occasionally by another man's cock, and be done with it.

Hey
Thanks for another good cast. I listen to yr casts because you often catch things that I don't - I mean, there's so many little references etc that nobody can catch them all. Liked the HO = 8 15 thing esp. I'm liking the theory of multiples; like, there's more than one Charlie now, more than one polar bear etc. Smokey has something to do with that... I also think that the Oceanic Six(-ish) somehow brought Smokey with them when they got off the island - that's why the sixies are stressing out about what they did etc. Bringing Smokey off the island has messed the island up somehow...
Also, about Kate the Criminal as a sixie: she could have taken the identity of another female Lostie that didn't get off the island...

never ever let sayid run an ambush!!!
Posted by: RobC | February 14, 2008 at 09:41 PM
With my Lost team, Mr. Friendly, TimeWarp and IRS - also known as GayTron. We loved the episode, but didn't find as much that contributes to the overall mythology. Here are our observations:
(1) Time moves slower on the Island
Rretty obvious. Perhaps as important as WHERE the Island is is WHEN the Island.
(2) Widmore/Abbaddon runs a team of Charlie's Angels.
Elsa, Naomi -- they've both got the bracelet from RG? And now Sayid the badass assassin is going to take them all down? Revenge for kicking everyone off the Island?
(3) RG = Regina? From the freighter?
(4) Michael is Ben's man on the frieghter.
Prediction: at the end of next week's episode, Desmond and Sayid see Michael on the freighter. The following week, we get the backstory of Michael leaving the Island. YES.
Anyone got anything better from this episode? Like we said -- solid, but not too much to go on.
Posted by: Radzinsky | February 14, 2008 at 11:41 PM
I think we may have to amend. The screencaps on DarkUFO's site may suggest that Naomi's bracelet and Elsa's bracelet are similar, but not duplicates. I think I might hold off on this Charlie's Angel's theory for now.
Posted by: Radzinsky | February 14, 2008 at 11:54 PM
Gah, horrendous grammar and double use of the word "may." I further amend to read Charlie's Angels.
Did anyone catch the last name of the gentleman that Sayid shot on the golf course at the beginning of the episode?

Did anyone call the Oceanic 815 crash hotline? It's really a number in the US. Being an Australian fan, I shelled out the cash just to find out...

Kate is one of the Oceanic 6. I heard Lindelof and Cuse say on the ABC podcast that Kate is one of the Oceanic 6, the four definite are Kate, Jack, Hurley, Sayid but the other two will be a surprise.
