Why do they even try. This episode is centered on jack, of course, but what I don't get is why the writers try to make suspense that we all know the answer to what is going to happen. In season 3's finale Through the Looking Glass we saw Jack and Kate in the furture. But wait a second, if they were saying that Jack is going to die than why did they show him in a flash forward. I think that thsi is a waste of an episode and personally, I very much hat Jack. All of a sudden he just pops back in as being important and every body is now taking orders from him. I really don't care about his story or what will happen to him in the future. i hope that the writers will think up a creative way to finall kill Jack off!

Tyler, I think one post would have made your point.

First!

@ Tyler
You are missing the story. Jake and Kate have a fight and they split up. This episode shows that. The flash forward when Jakes at the airport is after this episode (the beard, remember that Jake has that). It makes sense. The questions that we should be wondering is what was Saywers last request from Kate? But at least we know who Kate was taking about when she told Jake at the airport in the other flash forward, she had to get back to. It was Aaron.
Anyone notice Jakes Dad's white shoes in the medical office?
I think the asian guy (i'm blanking on his name) can see the people that are only ment for the losties. Example, Jakes dad and Claire. He saw him. Could that be his role on the island.

I personally would lose a lot of interest in the show if it wasn't for Jack (I think I'd still watch though). He's the type of character worth rooting for, and I know I'm in the minority but I don't mind his episodes at all

I'm more of a JJuler than a Jater or Skater...lol I think this episode will rate higher with ladies out there.
*Great shout-out to the sci-fi geeks w/ the Millennium Falcon toy :) *

something i noticed was the smoke alarm going off when christian shepard(jacks dad) was near by, perhaps he has some connection with the smoke monster?...perhaps he is part of it?
Posted by: alan | May 02, 2008 at 08:06 AM
@ Alan
Good call on the smoke detector. That is what I was thinking as well.
Re: Sawyer's request
It is possible that Sawyer asked Kate to make sure that his daughter is being taken care of. If Kate is living in such nice place can we speculate that there has been some sort of settlement by Oceanic? Perhaps Kate is giving financial help to Sawyer's baby mamma.
Re: Miles and Lapidus
I am liking Miles more and more. Is is a smart ass and his "gift" is becoming more clear to us. In the first episode featuring him, I thought maybe he was a con-artist. But it is becoming more apparent that he has some gift of sensing/seeing what is beyond the physical realm. I am sure there is more to his story.
As for Frank Lapidus, I think we are being set up to view him as a very sympathetic character along the lines of Daniel. However, I have a hunch that when push comes to shove, he will save his own butt instead of helping some of our LOSTies.

I figured out why Jake became a pill popper... He was taking the oxicoten to make the visions of his dad go away.
Posted by: spalz | May 02, 2008 at 10:33 AM
ugg... what a drag.... we got some stuff but had to deal with a lot of crap in there.
Favorite part of the show was when Sawyer picked up Aaron off the ground and I thought... "eureka! after 4 effing years that chick finally get's to quit carting that kid around! mystery solved"
and of course, Why wouldn't the Island want Jack to raise Aaron? Oh, I don't know. maybe he's a pill popping bi-polar control freak who one day proposes to a woman he loves and the very next day accuses her of cheating.

Aaron is the key to the whole game!
I often wondered in the earlier season if the show was really built completely around Aaron & we just didn't know it yet. it would be interesting to see some comments from season 1 & 2 and find out if that was a common theme or not.
I'm thinking that Jacob really ends up being Aaron as a grown up. that's my bold prediction. he turns into some god-like being some how (no doubt gamma rays as a teenager) and is trapped. he brings everyone to the island to "help me" and even using psychics in australia, Jack & Claire's dad, Charlie talking to hurley all as an effort to change something that went wrong in the time line.
other thoughts from the episode:
Kate has a great ass
jack's appendix issue was a complete waste of time.
Juliet is now a complete waste of time and should end up next to the Danielle & Karl.
if only they would have given us more of Christian Shepherd in this episode... he's basically doing the same thing he's been doing so far. just showing up, not saying anything and disappearing. and this time Claire followed him.
Myles is apparently NOT a scam artist.... but one bummer of a superpower, I'd say.

In response to Alan's post: As a firefighter I respond on a lot of smoke alarms. The sound that Jack heard and we all heard was the low battery tone. If the detector was detecting smoke the tones would be closer together and more annoying. Also, most detectors are hardwired to the rest of the detectors in the building or floor and would all be going off if smoke was present. It was very good thinking though.

Re: the smoke alarm
I think the point of the alarm was a just a nod to Smokey. If the alarm had been actually going off, it just would have been gratuitous. But by using the alarm's beep to get Jack into the lobby, the writers can play with us a bit. I don't think there was any real connection other than the writers having some fun.

Did anyone else notice Kate's two front teeth being markedly different in the flash forwards? What's up with that?
Posted by: Emily | May 02, 2008 at 04:06 PM
WHY IS EVERYONE SAYING JACKS APPENDIX WAS A WASTE OF TIME? Don't you remember the scene in last night's episode with Rose saying "people don't get sick here." Also, Hurley told Jack that Charlie said that Jack wasn't supposed to raise Aaron. Is the island punishing jack in some way for breaking off from locke or for some other reason?

This was the first eppy I have loved in so so long! how great to see Lost get back to its original strengths of character development and fucking with our minds, instead of shooting and killing and death all the time... also the feeling, just like the end of last season, of everything ramping up towards the intensity of what I know is gonna be one seriously amazing/totally confusing finale. I also love the way that we are getting so much info and explanation and connections revealed, but that the mythology is still getting more and more complex at the same time.
P.S. Jack's PA thingy on the phone saying something like "Knowing that you have trouble with your calendar" - :)

The smoke alarm was trying to be reminiscent to beeps in the hatch every 108 minutes. Jack did spend a lot of time in the hatch season 2, and it would make sense that if jack heard anything like that again it would make him come out of his office, and investigate. i thought the episode was fantastic, more like the ones from season 1. Yes we did know Jack already got off the island, but it's journey of how they get off the island and the last moments leading up to why only the six got off thats important. I don't care that i wasn't on the edge my seat wondering if he jack was going to die, plus everything happens for a reason, or at least on the show it does.
it was also cool to see Jin figuring out something before everyone else did, although they made her knowing Korean so obvious, i mean, it was edited so that only a idiot couldn't figure it out in a second. Jin has always been the last guy to know stuff, from the baby, to Sun's affair, to about everything else since he has to have it translated.

@ lmnop
good call on Rose's comment... I'd forgotten about that... i withdraw my earlier statement about jack's appendix... now I'm curious... what's up with that??
@JD
It was really cool to see Jin figure something out...I was the idiot that didn't figrure it out right away though:) - I like him as a character and always have... it is nice not to see him being played by everyone
Thanks to the writers for having Daniel calling Charlotte out about her attitude as well "That is why they don't trust us" - I keep wanting someone to punch charlotte in the face

Did Jack have an appendix operation scar at the beginning of the episode (the purpose of the towel scene besides showing off his abs?). I didn't think so. Why else give us the appendix operation on the island if the writers didn't want us to notice the lack of a scar.

Remember the Lord of the Rings?
In the woods, the white wizard behind the blinding white light with a speaking voice like Sarumans? Then the light goes off: Yay, it's actually Gandalf!
The same here: The woman in the shower booth, with a Juliet-like voice... Then: Wow, it's Kate!
What's this? Some kind of homage?
:D

Anyone notice that on Kates refrigerator there were many butterflies and flowers that were made of paper? I found it interesting since those are 99% identical to the ones that were in Hugo's rec room at the mental institution.

I personally loved this episode for what it was. It seemed like a throwback to season 1, which was a bit refreshing after the shooting fest that was last week. A few wild theories also developed from things I noticed in the episode.
What is the deal with Sawyer's sudden uber-protection of Claire. It would be very weird if this was setting the stage for a later love connection.
Could Kate be pregnant? We never see her in tight clothing (though she is often in various states of undress...oh what would we do without the 10pm time slot). During the last flasback it seems like she's pointedly holding her belly. Also I'm a bit taken aback by her sudden transformation into a soccer mom wearing flowery blouses.

The only memorable moment for my husband was when Jack got a handful of Kate's A$$!...YEAH...my thoughts exactly..I bet it wasnt even in the script ...cant blame a guy.. damm

@ Jon W - I did too ! The voice in the shower did not sound like Kate at first.

I don't think Kate was giving money to Sawyer's ex-girlfriend and their daughter--Sawyer did something in jail for the warden (I don't remember what) that put a lot of money anonymously in a bank account for the girl and probably enough for the mother to live on. As for his uber-protection of Claire, I think he's baby-minded right now. He and Hurley have been enjoying helping with Aaron and of course they'd feel fond of Claire. Plus Hurley's got that Charlie's "widow" thing fondness in his head, I bet, and Sawyer finally has a little family. He's sentimental. I don't think he and Claire have a romance.
No one but Claire is supposed to raise Aaron--Jack, Kate, or otherwise. The psychic said so! Once we saw Aaron on the mainland I figured he was who Kate was referring to when she told Jack she had to go home. I wonder if he's some kind of devil boy now that Kate cannot upset. Sort of like Eric Cartman but with powers.

how do we know what sex Aaron/Erin is? I can't remember was it ever said? I love the comment bout this all being about Erin! I think yur right. I wonder when Jacks gonna find out thats his Niece or nephew. Just thoughts.

Claire died in the house explosion. Has to be. Some of the "people" on the island are dead, but don't know that they're dead.
