LOSTCasts 69 & 70 Combined

John bid farewell to his wisdom teeth today, so we won't be podcasting this weekend, but will be combining next week's podcast with this week. See you next week! Stay LOST.

Comments

You guys used to be about the Lost, man.

I have a couple observations:

1) I mentioned last week that I thought Claire may have died in the rocket blast. It appears I was right and that's why Miles was interested in her and offered to carry the baby.

2) I think Ben and Loche have the same mother and are half brothers. Would make sense how the identity of the 'chosen one' could be confused between the two of them. And they both 'killed' their fathers.

3) I think the purple sky at the end of season 2 could have been the island moving. Maybe the Swan station held it in place or kept it linked to the outside world. Also the purple sky thing could be similar to "the incident" that Marvin Candle mentioned.

Great episode, cant wait for the cast. Get well soon John. Please make the last cast extra long as I need something to keep me going on the plane from Ireland to Brazil!

Ben and Locke can't have the same mother.

We saw Locke's mother - "Emily" - give birth in this last episode, only to give him up. Much later in the timeline, in a Locke flashback from series 1, he is reunited with her.

Somewhere between these two events Ben's mother dies giving birth to him. Thus, she must be a different person.

It's also pretty unlikely they have the same father also, given everything we've seen on them both.

Maybe moving the island means moving it in time? That could potentially fit it in with the purple sky type stuff, which I still assume is the same kind of purpley light stuff used by Dan on the rat in the constant.

Coop

Maybe the woman we see as Lockes mother is not infact his mother but is part of the con with the real sawyer to get his kidney.

Didnt Lockes grandmother say the man that Lockes mum was seeing was twice her age? Lockes dad and the mother we see him reunite with dont have too much of an age gap between them from what I remember

I don't mind mystery.
How could I mind it? I watch Lost, don't I?
But when this episode ended... The cryptic dialog in the cabin, and then Locke's closing quip...
Now gimme a break! Now they oversepped a limit.
My opinion: Mystery for the sake of mystery.
Now it's just too much. Now I lost the immersion into the story and became aware of the makers of the episode playing with me.
The story at this point just NEEDS answers. Trying to stretch the line of questions is just... tiring at this point. I think.

I have only one thing to say. the guy that told locke to go on the walkabout and we have been seeing thru the season i have a theory about who he is. it was the way he said "mr Locke" in the episode and then when he said "when you meet me again you'll owe me one" i believe that that man is walt. according to the official podcast the writers always had a plan for walts character for the whole series. i think this is linked to walt being able to appear in places he shouldn't be. that's my theory.

to Coop,

Both women had the name Emily, both had similar enough features and coloring I think to imply that they at least may be the same person. I do not believe that the one Cooper sent was actually his mother but (could've been, I don't know for sure) part of the con to get Lock's kidney. She was from a mental institution after all.

I agree that they do not have the same father.

Moving the island may be moving it in time, but remember the Nigerian drug plane (or church plane). How did it get that far away? Not a problem if the island was closer.

Either way, we'll find out I'm sure and either one of us could be right.

You guys do a GREAT re-cap of the episodes. When you are absent for a weekend it almost seems like there is a piece missing from the completion of each episode. Please keep-up the great work.

Did any one notice the name of the rehab center was "Delerue"? Le rue means "street" in French, but in English, "rue" is "regret."

I am mostly wigging out about the Horace line how he died twelve years ago. I assume he died when Ben gassed everyone. Does that mean he'd been Alex's father for five or six years already?

I went to IMDB to find out about the actor who played Horace. There is no Horace listed as a character in this week's episode but there is an actor listed as Jacob. It is Doug Hutchison and he is the actor who played Horace! Is this a mistake on IMDB? Doug Huchison did play Horace last season in The Man Behind the Curtain.

Frankmagnet, Loney Childress:

You're right, that is very possible. I didn't realise Ben's mother was also named Emily. Very strange. This is either a device to show the growing similarities between them (their "chosen" status, their manipulative ways and selfishness) or you could be right, they could be half brothers.

Personally I hope this is not the case, but it's entirely possible that older Emily is not actual Emily.

KarenX, I believe that Horace's "12 years ago" reference gives some credence to the timeline laid out in the Time Loop Theory (TLT). If you backdate from an "island time" base year of 1996, you come to 1984 -- a much more realistic year for the Dharma purge to take place. To wit:

- the level of technology seen in the abandoned stations would have still been out-of-date, but not anachronistic

- The VW Type 2s driven on the island at the time of Ben's arrival and by Roger Linus at the time of his death would have also been old, but not anachronistic

- Danielle Rousseau's team could have landed in 1988 and not encountered any DHARMA people (improbable if the DI was still active at the time of Rousseau's landing)
- Ben could have taken infant Alex and raised her for the first four years of her life without hiding her from the rest of the DI

I'm proud to report that we see a jackface in Speed Racer. And a hilarious Lost "famous saying" by one of the characters. I won't spoil it but those who paid attention to one of the conversations between Rain (the Asian driver you see throughout the film) and Matthew Fox (Racer X) will know what I'm talking about :)

When Jack wakes up and goes to see kate in the shower....Did he have a scar from the surgery?? If he didnt he could have been dreaming while the surgery was going on.

No lostcasts or J.Wood this week after a great episode! wtf!

Ummmm....Did anybody, other than me, freak out about Richard? When Richard asked John to pick the things that belonged to him, I felt there was some reincarnation stuff going on. I am not sure why richard got pissed when John picked up the knife, though. Perhpas it has something to do with the Future John and his Rambo self. Anyway, great episode and I hope you do not loose too much wisdom ;)

CLOP

We've been told before that Christian Shepherd is dead, so how do we explain his presence in the show so far? Of course it could be an incarnation of the island/jacob/ smoke monster, but recently this theory just hasn't felt right. I don't think we've seen an hallucination or whatever you want to call it, appear bodily for such a substantial period of time. Claire was with him for at least a good few hours if not a day so it seems a bit out of kilter with other elements we've attributed to this source. Could it be that on the island Christian is actually a much earlier Christian than the person that dies in Australia? Perhaps he crashed on the island on one of his previous trips to Oz and appeared in the timeline we are now currently watching. Not impossible given the recent reveals in the time fluctuations. At some point he may leave and continue his life off the island but with knowledge of what is in store for his 2 kids which leads him down a self-destructive path as he is aware that he is powerless to prevent their destiny of being on flight 815?

I had a thought about the Alpert/little Locke interaction..

Maybe it goes back to another Locke flashback [Further Instructions]

Eddie tells Locke he's not a murderer, he's a farmer, and Locke denies this- says he's a hunter. Locke always wants to be the hunter. That's his biggest dream. He wants to make himself feel worth something greater than himself.

The knife could be a symbol for being the "hunter" and maybe Alpert, like Eddie, doesn't believe that is Locke's path, despite how badly Locke wants that. Little Locke is obviously special, so maybe his future self's desire had him grab the knife.

I dunno, just my two cents! ^.^

Stay LOST!

gosh john, how could you!?
i can't believe you put your health and well-being before the podcast.

just kidding :)

looking forward to next week.

nik

A further, if perhaps minor, point:

Last time we see Christian Shepherd "alive" he was in Austrailia, demanding that he sees his daughter (and failing miserably.) Assuming he is now 'dead,' was he simply trying to fulfilling his final wishes?

Or maybe the reason he was looking for Claire in the first place was to tell her something - which he has now been able to that he has found her?

I don't know.

FYI ... J Wood's LOST blog is up for the ep, "Cabin Fever".

I have a comment/question: The show leads us to believe that Locke is the new "chosen one" --- but is this really the case?
1. Though he found the map, he wasn't the one who actually first saw the cabin.
2. He still is not speaking directly to Jacob
3. We know that Ben is still "time jumping" and manipulating people in 2005...

--any thoughts?

R.

@Rachel,

You bring up a good point about Horace's map ...

When people on the LOSTcasts Forum started talking about whether the cabin was actually the same one Ben led Locke to in S3 (and the one Hurley saw earlier this season), it reminded me of the "?" episode, when Locke is leading Eko to the supposed "?" on the Swan station blastdoor, which actually led to the Pearl station ... Now, I have always thought that the "?" on the blastdoor map was not the Pearl station. I am wondering if the same thing is happening to Locke again ... i.e. Is he being led to some other path on the Island?

I am about to say something probably obvious and boring about the Oceanic Six:

Sayid (1) is piloting the Zodiac.
Jack (2) is put on the Zodiac because he just had abdominal surgery and the big boat has a medical facility.
Sun (3) is put on the boat by Jin.
Aaron (4) is put on the boat because he is a baby.
Kate (5)
Hurley (6)

So why Hurley and Kate? Hurley could be on the Zodiac to take care of Aaron, because he has clearly bonded with the baby and has practically been a parent to him. Kate could be on the Zodiac because Jack insisted. Hurley probably would make it back to the beach before Sayid arrives. Are those compelling reasons yet to explain why Kate and Hurley get to go instead of other people? Also, I wonder when the beach folk will decide that Claire has been gone long enough to feel justified in starting to make decisions about Aaron without her.

Of course, there could be two waves of people; some on Sayid's boat and others later on a recommandeered helicopter. Can we trust that Lapides is the only pilot or is some character going to come forward with mad chopper skillz this late in the game?
