I think the really great part of the premier is the new storytelling technique. We've gone from flashbacks, to flashforwards, to time travel, to alternative storylines. Finding a way to keep reinventing how you tell stories on television is fantastic.

spooky

Sunday is the 7th, just so you know.

Looking forward to the podcast!

Thoughts on the Premiere:

It was really really good, not mind-bogglingly great. For me, the on-Island stuff dragged, took an hour to really get interesting. It was nice to see Juliet again but it was kind of a cheap move. We have to see her die twice?

I think the healing water is really interesting – Is that how Richard stays immortal? Why is it now discolored? Did Jacob know it wouldn’t work, and if so, was that his plan? Is Sayid now Jacob or just “changed” the way Ben changed?

I like the idea of Sayid = Jacob, because I thought Naveen Andrews was always one of the better actors on the show, and he's had precious little to do for about three years now. Hopefully this will lead to great stuff.

Richard = slave from the Black Rock.

Loved the flash sidways, thought the 2004 story was fantastic. Nice to see old characters (BOONE CHARLIE CLAIRE ARZT FROGURT) and to note the little changes. Rose comforting Jack this time as opposed to the other way around. A lot seems to have changed in their lives other than the plane not crashing, interesting to explore what else is different. What happened to Desmond? What was with Jack’s cut neck? Seems significant.

Also - ISLAND UNDERWATER??!?!?!

SPOILERS AHEAD...

They have cause reality to split. In one reality the Island was destroyed in 1977. It sunk, so Desmond sailed past it and that is why he is on Oceanic 815. However we now have an alternate reality where the everyone carried on as normal. Now will the realities merge together again will there be a course correction later? Looks like Locke is dead though, sucker...kinda pathetic his last thoughts.

You're assuming Dark Locke was telling the truth, though. Since he's now in the business of manipulating Ben as his own pet to get him "home," everything he tells Ben is suspect. At first, I thought home might be off-island, but considering the fact that the smoke monster used to inhabit that temple (remember when he killed/controlled the French team when they got too close to the temple), the temple might be his home. And of course that fountain being important to him.

Also, it now appears that it was NEVER Jacob in the cabin from years ago, but the smoke monster, and the circle of ash was to keep him trapped inside (apparently as effective as the Dharma's sonic fence, though the monster's not stupid -- it can't get through the fence, but a well tossed rock sure can). Once that circle around the cabin was broken (which I vaguely recall seeing in a previous episode), he began his quest to create a proxy for him whom people would trust, while also sowing the seeds in Ben to have him kill Jacob someday. It would appear that the smoke monster/Dark Locke kills when attacked (though that doesn't explain him killing Eko,and he did kick Richard's ass pretty easily), so he could never kill Jacob because Jacob would never attack him. Plus, no one would ever have reason to kill Jacob, hence he needed to manipulate Ben all these years to make it happen. And Locke being told he "had to die" were all lies sown by Dark Locke to ensure the proper outcome. This also confirms my thought that when Ben and Locke were in the temple, Ben's daughter apparition and Locke were both the smoke monster playing head-games with Ben.

The temple stuff seems just so hokey, but I'll let it slide for now, provided it moves the storyline forward.

P.S. I have never seen such long, drawn-out death scenes as Sayid's and Juliet's. But hey, Juliet's going to be in V, so I guess her contract was up. Plus, they needed some way to tell the island reality "it worked" (I guess because she was at ground zero. In fact, we may see her again, if she, like Desmond, has become some sort of x-factor by being at ground-zero for a major energy event like Desmond was with the Swan implosion.

Good start to the new season although I really don't know whats going on.i.e. the Losties on the Island AND on the plane. Is it parallel ?

I only have 1 moaning point...

Come on Lost techy guys - The underwater island sequence looked like PS2 graphics.I didn't expect Avatar quality cgi but you guys started filming last August. You could have come up with something better than that.

RE: It's Dark Locke in the cabin.
If Dark Locke was in the cabin and Dark Locke is the smoke monster and the ash circle stopped the Smoke Monster then how come the Monster was seen outside the cabin on many occasions ? Or are we to assume that Dark Locke/Smokey was only in the cabin for a short time ? I haven't checked the timings of Smokey seen vs. when we found out about the circle around the cabin but we were given the impression that Dark Locke had ben in the cabin for a long time.

Looking forward to the podcast.

Mike in the Box

Good to be back and to have you guys on board for another season!

Just a few things I thought I would comment on.

Something I spotted: in the alt timeline, Sun and Jin are not wearing wedding bands, and the TSA agent refers to Sun as "Ms. Paik" (her maiden name). Are they not married in that timeline? If not, then what is their story?

Also, I liked alt-Charlie telling alt-Jack, "You shouldn't have done that. I was suppose to die."

Also, did everyone see the DHARMA logo on the shark during the "sunk island" scene? Pretty cool.

Chris

Glad the best Lost podcast out there is back. Looking forward to it!

Michael from Switzerland

Did anybody notice that the shark in front of the sunken statue had a Dharma Logo on its tail? Is this an easteregg or does this mean anything? What do you think about this?

Tim

Podcast had no volume, at least on my computer.

debi

No volume here either. (htis is listening after the live broadcast)
