This week, we discuss the premiere of season 6 of LOST, with the airing of LA X Parts 1 & 2. In our first podcast of the season, we talk about the new parallel universe or "flash sideways" everyone's been talking about and if our Losties are destined to repeat the past, speculate about who the man in black may have impersonated besides Locke, discuss our new temple friends and more... all the while trying our first live video broadcast, which began a little bumpy but smoothed out in the end. We'll have it fine tuned and working without issue next time :)

hey, i'm very glad lostcasts is back! been listening since the beginning. there's a strange feeling of comfort hearing your voices again.
listening to the cast right now, and about the incident: i think the incident that we know of - the canon incident - never happened, and the island is underwater due to juliet detonating the bomb. the detonation NEVER HAPPENED in the canon narrative, and thanks to that wildcard, the story actually split into THREE:
1) the island narrative that happened prior to the losties arriving up until season 4 - canon narrative
2) the island narrative that is currently happening that shifted the canon narrative since season 5 - time bubble narrative
3) the island narrative that happened due to the time bubble narrative - LA X narrative
so there. just my two cents!

Hey, just an fyi, but the podcast feed from itunes isn't showing your latest episode. What's up with that?
Posted by: Rex Lorenzo | February 08, 2010 at 03:01 AM
the japanese guy in the temple is the father in the original RING movie.

Thanks for the podcast!
I think you're wrong about Sun & Jin. I think a lot has changed - she's always been called Mrs. Kwon, but in the premiere security calls her Ms. Paik. Neither of them are wearing wedding rings.
She very well may not know English, and it doesn't seem as if they're married in the flash sideways.

Great podcast guys! Back to form after the downer during season 5. Quite indepth, and you guys actually sounded enthusiastic once more, so that's good :)
If the premiere is anything to go by, the final season will be one heck of a ride. And I'm actually very interested in the alternate reality plot as well. No way that the writers would do something this huge if there wasn't an important point to make.

Dig the show guys, I just wish you guys could get the audio right on the podcast. One of you is barely audible and the other one is swallowing the mic.
It just makes it so hard to listen to because I'm constantly adjusting the volume to hear.

Question for you guys. After watching season 5 we know how much Razinski knows. Is there anyway he would not know where the Pearl station is? So do you think the ? could've been the temple rather than the Pearl?

Here's a though: In the flash-sideways JACK KNEW that this was an alternative version of the original plane crash. He played along and acted as he would if given a 2nd chance. It was as if he had the memory of all that had happened but no one else had the same memory of all the events on the island.
He looked at Rose as if he knew her and he knew what they'd been through but just couldn't reveal it to her. Jack illustrated the same behavior with the other Losties.

Great to have you guys back.
One comment on the podcast, in the sideways universe Jack would not have met Desmond.
In the original timeline, Widmore sponsors the race around the world and humiliates Desmond into proving himself to Widmore by entering the race. In the original timeline, Jack meets Desmond while Desmond is training for the race by running up and down the stadium steps.
Since the island sank and Widmore was still on the island (Ben is the one who exiles Widmore), it is doubtful the race would still be held and Desmond would not have had to prove himself to Widmore. So Desmond would not have a reason to be training in the stadium and would not have met Jack there.
So if Jack recognized Desmond, is that a cross over knowledge from the original timeline?
Enjoy-

Plus, Desmond was wearing a wedding ring so he could be married to Penny already and may never have done that sailing race at all in the ALT.

OR married to Ruth, the chick with the uber scottish accent that we saw in "Catch-22".

WHAT KATE DOES:
So this was a terrible episode of epic proportions. Kate is the worst character in the entire series (yes, worse than Nikki/Paulo) and suffers from the worst writing ever. What else was to be expected? I can only hope this was the last Kate-centric episode.
That being said, I don't think it was "filler" as some of the immediate online feedback is suggesting. Any Kate episode – that airs right after the premiere – was bound to be a slowdown. We’re finally going to see Claire on-island again, and if we needed a slower crap Kate episode to build up to that, then so be it. And Sayid and Claire are on the “dark” side? Those are two characters the writers never seemed to know what to do with, and it looks like they’re going to get some great stuff. A really bad episode? Yes. Filler? I can't agree with that.

Why did the Dharma van travel foward in time too?

kate sucks. claire was interesting, sawyer was interesting, sayid was interesting, dogen was interesting, jack was interesting AND likeable, kate was still BORING and never likeable. the worst written character in the history of the show. hope this was the last kate-centric episode.

Haven't watched last night's episode yet, but sounds like I'm going to agree w/ most everyone else: Kate's a pretty face who has one of the dullest storylines revolving around her. Plus, they write her character to be about as dumb as a bag of doorknobs who couldn't hit the broadside of a barn. Mars has got to be the worst US Marshall ever to keep losing her.
Last weeks' podcast got me to thinking, though: what if they approach at least a few episodes with a Final Destination aspect to them? In other words, if you must die, you will die. It's just a matter of circumstances after that.
Also, this may have been covered before, but I now get WHY Ben wouldn't let anyone leave (including Juliet). They HAD to stay to make the timeloops complete. Ben knew this because he knew them from when he was a child. When he had files on everyone, he didn't pull them up suddenly. He had been compiling them all his life from the name records of the Dharma Initiative. He had been preparing for that plane crash his entire life, and every single thing Ben put into motion was to make sure that the time loop happened.
This bifurcated timeline might also explain the inability of people to give birth on the island successfully. Namely, if you weren't born int he alternate timeline, you cannot be born into the main timeline either. The one lone exception was Claire, due to the fact that she was pregnant BEFORE she got to the island, allowing her and Aaron to cross over. Problem being the paradox of how does someone exist in only one timeline?
Note: like I said, I haven't watched last night's episode, so if Claire's pregnant and still has Aaron in the LAX timeline, then I'm back to square one. :-/

Has anyone floated the idea that the island is a prison for the dark entity that currently is in the meat puppet Locke?
It fits in so many ways, with Jacob being the warden, the others being the guards and all the people brought to the island being manipulated by the dark entity to help free him so he can go home?
A lot fits when you look at it this way.
