but interesting nonetheless!

Really... Way to carry the show by yourself, John. You're a trooper.

Oh, and it's a hard "g" in Dogen, not "do - jin". Shades of Ana Lucheea.

Just a thought oh the speculation that Kate is the mother of Jack's child - surely this would not fit into the time line. I am assuming (as they are looking for the will) that the flash sidewards was taking place shortly after the plane had landed, at which point Kate is on the run from the police and definitely not bringing up a child.

havent listened to the newest podcast.. but while had this thought.. season 1 epi 1 when they hear the Monsters in the woods and see the trees moving opposite of each other... could this have been jacob and smokie? like chimps who confront each other they were beating the ground up and stuff.

Way to go Jonn and basically do the podcast by yourself. I think you might need to recruit some new blood to keep the podcast alive...

Thanks guys for doing a podcast even though Matt and Robert were no-shows. I think Tasha did a good job on this 'cast. She started contributing and seems to have started to feel more comfortable.
A few thoughts, I think the Alice references are definitely important. They have been there since the beginning. The parallel/alternative realities of Through the Looking Glass vs. Adventures in Wonderland have to inform our perspective of what is going on in LOST.
Although, I HATE the alt stories, I do think that the introduction of a son named David is "interesting". In the Bible, David is a musician. The king, Saul, is being tormented by a spirit and when David plays, it calms Saul.
"Whenever the spirit from God came upon Saul, David would take his harp and play. Then relief would come to Saul; he would feel better, and the evil spirit would leave him." - 1 Samuel 16:23 (notice the numbers reference 16 & 23)
This is important in the Jack(X) story because when Jack(X) learns of David's talent and hears him play, he obviously changes his mood, as if a cloud was lifted from him.
Other thoughts on David:
- He is a SHEPHERD. (1 Samuel 16:8-11)
- He overcomes the warrior, Goliath (called a giant, or monster)by using the weapon of choice of the tribe of BENJAMIN
- Christians believe that the Savior of the world, Jesus (called the Good Shepherd) was born through David's bloodline. (Notice the "Christian Shepherd" reference)
- According to Ruth 4:18-22, David was a direct descendent of JACOB
- David's son, Solomon built the TEMPLE in Jerusalem.
I might have to do a little more looking, but the David story might be more important than I first thought.

@ Mike in the Box,
Wow, you're Biblical knowledge is impressive, as are the many connections you reference in your post. Do you post on any forums, such as DarkUFO or DocArtz? Your insight would undoubtedly be of value to the conversations taking place there. In any case, good stuff, thanks for sharing.

I don't post anywhere else. I wish I had time to. I used to contribute more on this site. I have loved finding the connections in LOST to many religious perspectives. My degree is in biblical studies and I am on staff at a church in Ohio, so connecting those dots is pretty natural for me. Glad you enjoyed what I had to comment on.

"Jack-centric Rabbit" - Quote of The Week
Posted by: RandomDude | February 28, 2010 at 06:46 AM
You really need to get rid of Tasha.
And please try to not to say intresting so much. I find it somethimes difficult to listen to the topic since I find myself waiting to hear the word intresting again.

I actually enjoyed this week's podcast more than usual - maybe you should just take charge, Jon. And I like Tasha's contributions as well.
@ Mike In The Box - excellent connections! Thanks for that information.

@ Mike in the Box- good stuff.
I wondered why during the recital scene, I thought of Jack playing the piano in Othersville when Kate finds him. When I re-watched the episode I realized that the music David is playing morphs into the same Michael Giacchino theme that Jack was playing on the piano. It's brilliant and makes Jack's "cloud lifting" more dramatic.
Also according to Ryan from the Transmission, David is playing the same Chopin piece that young Faraday was playing in The Variable, which invokes shades of free will and destiny into the equation.

OK guys. It's the Series Finale. You need to bring it. John, yes, a trooper. But where is Matt, Robert. (You guys were kinda mentally MIA last week as well) Tasha - are you even there? Coming to a podcast "unprepared" is a little insulting. I've been listener and fan from the beginning, you guys have one of the best podcasts going. Don't peter out now! Please?

Also yer video version cuts out after the numerology bit. Bummer.

I want to thank you guys for making the effort to give us a podcast this week. You could have easily blown it off, given that Robert and Matt couldn't make it. The cast continues to be of high quality, and it made me think about a few things that I had missed. Don't sweat the above criticism. Hopefully, they will exercise their free will, and stop listening since it seems to cause them so much distress. I, and hopefully we, really appreciate you guys, and I look forward to hearing your thoughts next week. Thanks.

No distress, and I'll say a loyal listener. John ALWAYS brings it. I *should* have said that it was a good podcast nevertheless. But there's nothing that beats the banter between the three guys (and Tash' when she preps) when they get goinhg. I just want to see em at their best!
Posted by: Midge | February 28, 2010 at 06:45 PM
Matt and Robert make a little time to podcast - it is the last season so man up and make the show. No more Tasha please.

Although I usually love the podcasts with the entire crew, I have to say I didn't really miss Matt and Robert with John's great analysis, especially with the bit on Alice in Wonderland/Through the Looking Glass.
Regarding the identity of David's mom...pretty sure it is not Kate because Kate and Jack did not seem to acknowledge/recognize each other in the LAX episode.

Only just around to listening to the podcast -- been busy listening to Jay and Jack obviously 8-)
Don't see how Kate could be Davids mother. Jack and Kate didn't seem to know each other on the plane. My money is on Juliet or Sarah.
Didn't really like the whole sideways thing, still wondering where they are going with that. Just seems to be an excuse to show cross-overs between the characters -- they were good in the original flashbacks but are now a bit tired. Also the characters aren't really the same ones have know for 5 seasons so I'm having trouble liking them.
On island was interesting as ever. The more I think about it the more I think that there may be two seperate lists of candidates. Jacobs (in the Lighthouse) and Flokes in the Cave. I mean why would a candidate to replace Floke be the same as one to replace Jacob ? Clearly these can overlap but could have different names on each list.
As for the who's who of Lostcasts, I think the more the merrier. As a listener from the start I have to ask Where's Brian ? Any chance he could come back this season.

I'm getting a bit sick of Tasha getting grief from a bunch of whiners in the comments. I thought she did a better job than usual. Cut her some slack. Yeah, it sucks the other guys weren't available, but they did a good job without them. They could have just blown it off (it's a free podcast), but they tried. And they brought up some insight the hosts of the other Lost podcasts I listen to are probably incapable of thinking up, so I'm happy with it.
And by the way, calling the significant other of the guy that runs this podcast "useless" is just a BIT insulting. Learn some damn manners.
Oh, and cute dog, by the way. He should be a podcast regular for the rest of the series.

Seriously - where is Brian?? Don't you guys have enough time in your busy lives to answer me??
Posted by: The Real Mark B | March 03, 2010 at 11:00 PM
Well I see there is now a Fake Real Mark B which is nice but to be honest I'm sick of posting posts like this one just denying I posted something so you guys win, congratulations, this is the last post I'll make here. Cue raptuous applause and snide comments from many corners, which of course I won't be reading.
My last comment would be that Lostcasts is still the gold standard of Lost podcasts.
John, Matt, Robert, Tasha and Brian thanks for everything maybe see you on your facebook page.
Mark B has left the building.
