RE: Dr. Linus
Michael Emerson continues to display exceptional acting skills. This episode was Emmy worthy for him. Just one note of interest: I did find it humorous that in the original timeline, Ben killed his father with poisonous gass, but in the alt-timeline he kept him alive by changing his oxygen. Nice.
It would have been nice if Carl was Alex's boyfriend at the highschool. Just would have been a cool touch. It would also have been interesting to see a domesticated Danielle working two jobs to take care of Alex.
RE: Recon
Nice play on words for the title. Sawyer was sent to do recon, but the alt-timeline showed a different version of his "long-con" (a re-con).
I found myself really liking the first 15-20 minutes of this episode, but started losing interest after that.
A few things about Recon that frustrated me: 1. Why would cop-Sawyer help handcuffed Kate in the elevator at LAX?
2. Since when do undercover cops get to have sex with their marks while the rest of the team listens in? 3. On island, Kate questions how they are going to fly the plane. Sawyer tells her that they are not taking the plane, they are taking the sub? How can that be easier than taking the plane?

@Mike in the Box: I was wondering about taking the sub. You will recall that by getting hold of a gun last time, they were able to force the sub commander to surface and drop them off. Presumably that is what Sawyer has in mind. I personally would love to see a dramatic getaway in the plane with Frank flying and everyone on board, but they will have to somehow tow it back out of the bushes and turn it round - something like the scene in the original 'Flight of the Phoenix' I guess. I wonder if they will do it. Even if Sawyeer and Kate go off in the sub, what about Jack etc? Fake Locke also seems pretty keen on using the plane.

Anyone notice how in the alt timeline, Sawyer's telling everyone lies, but in the island timeline, he's telling everyone the truth? Plus, let's not forget he and Juliet spent three years on the island, presumably with regular sub visits. Wouldn't be out of the realm of reason that he learned just enough to make a sudden getaway if he and J needed to. Also, I just explained off the "letting Kate go" part with the fact that, at the time, he was still lying about going to Australia, so he sees a pretty girl, can't really get involved or else call attention to himself, and, well, Sawyer acts like Sawyer in the end. ;-)

Also, I forgot about the existence of an intact Injera flight on the other island, so Frank is going to become a VERY valuable commodity to all involved now. Plus, I'm guessing the smoke monster is capable of turning the plane around. Maybe not much more than that, though (how much weight can a black cloud lift, anyway?)

Last short comment for the night (my brain's frazzled from a tough workweek): Dr. Linus was one of my favorite episodes in the past couple of seasons. Emerson made BOTH timelines extremely interesting to watch unfold. He & O'Quinn are carrying the show on their respective backs right now, but they seems easily up to the task.
