Here are my thoughts on the finale: These are fleshed out with links and a number of articles at my blog: http://ralphehanson.com/blog/archive_10_01.html#05026_lost
I really had hoped to put up a profound essay about my reaction to the series and the finale. But I find myself overwhelmed. Overwhelmed by how much has been written about the show, overwhelmed by how much I would have to write to do any justice to the show, and overwhelmed by what I have to do before I can go to World Superbike races in Utah....
So let me just leave you with a couple of thoughts of what I thought LOST was all about.
When we were first introduced to Desmond in Season 2, he uttered what was to become his signature line - "See you in another life, brother..." This line would be repeated by Desmond and (to a lesser extent) Jack throughout the series. And as we all now know, LOST ends with Desmond meeting up with all the regulars of the series .... in another life. It's not that they all died in the plane crash. The show's creators have always maintained that the events that took place on the island were really happening to the characters. They were not dead, they were not in purgatory. They were alive. So the series is all about the characters' journey through life and what they are able to learn before they die.
Second, the show is about the redeeming power of love. If we go back to Desmond, we know that one of the major themes of the show was his enduring love for Penny Widmore and his desire to return to her. Penny is, of course, short for Penelope. And Penelope was the ever-constant wife of Odysseus, holding of the suitors at bay and waiting for her long-traveling husband to return. As the show progresses, we see Desmond saved repeatedly and in many different ways by Penny's love. We see the love theme emerge again and again; many of the characters cannot die until they have solved their issues with love. And the show ends with Jack getting the only thing he ever really wanted -- the love of his father.

I thought it was great that everything was finally resolved by the time-honoured and all-powerful technique of "unplug it and plug it back in."
Can't remember which of you said it but kudos on Frank turning up at the end saying, "Y'all need a ride?" (or at least, "in case you haven't noticed I'm a pilot!"; pretty damn close I think).
Bye bye LOSTcasts, bye bye LOST. Maybe we'll meet again in a few years when it's time for a complete rewatch.

Anyone know what the significance of the sneaker hanging in the bamboo forest is? Leave it to me to keep seeking mysteries in a TV show that's ended. Christian Shepard was wearing sneakers as he walked toward the light at the end of the church. Maybe that's where his body landed when the plane crashed? Just a thought.
It was an amazing show. How bout a sequeal where the now dead Losties help others battle the monster from Cloverfield?

Eric, as soon as I saw your plan to end LOST at season three, I thought you were crazy and unappreciative of the show as a whole. However, after reading the entire entry, I have to say that I agree with everything you said (right down to the Matrix) and realized that that is exactly how I was feeling about the finale. I did appreciate the emotional closure, but you're absolutely right about basic answers comparing Jacob and the light, etc. and that there really was no significant difference between the endings of season three and six. I felt like we had a lot more detail with no actual development in answers. I just found myself laughing at the show instead of being boggled by it. Although I still think LOST is one of the greatest things of all time and would never give up watching all six seasons, thanks for clearing things up for me.
Thanks John, Robert and Matt for being with us through the whole thing! I LIVED for your podcasts and will truly miss all the hype! You guys are awesome!
